Thread: Where in the movies did it say that TIE's can't have hyperdrives or shields?

Why is there a huge continuity buzz about this idea that wasn't even canon? The only continuity it's really breaking is the X-Wing books, and the X-Wing GAMES, which also broke continuity for the sake of fun.

So what is the big deal with people being ferverent that people can't modify their TIE ships?

You're correct! In the books that were based off of the X-wing games.

That's not even close to the topic at hand.

Actually, I believe in one of the books, it does say that Grand Moff Tarkin started to equip TIES with shields. Nothing about hyperdrive tho.

In a way it is, all books, comincs, even the ccg's have to get some level of authorization from Lucas on this matter. More or less any source of info on SW about ties, they are stated as having no hyperdrive or life support.

Obi-wan basically said in episode 4: "That's a short range fighter, it couldn't have gotten out here all by itself." Err...I know that's not the exact quote...but its the gist of it.

Yes, TIE's don'tHAVE hyperdrives, but where does it say that they CAN'T? Is it prohibited by the empire for anybody to put a hyperdrive on their type of ship? Probably not. You would just need to modify the TIE, though. But modifications can be made.

And besides, I thought some of the TIE's in TIE Fighter actually did have HD's and shields. You know, like the tie's you would fight against that belonged to that AWOL warlord or something similar.

But he didn't say, "That's a tie fighter. No way it could have flown through hyperspace nor does it have shields."

I don't know, I guess I'm just trying to get people to realize that it's really not a big deal to be able to modify TIE's to have extra stuff.
