Thread: Grouping
Since many of us did not play in beta and are just learning the roles and restrictions of classes I wanted to get some feedback on support roles and grouping with them. My main is a lvl 3 Novice Medic (third level of all novice medic skills) and I'm working towards Combat Medic so I want to group and I want to be out in the field and not sitting in a med center healing black HAM bars for hours. However it is very frustrating to me as a support class to play in a group of more than say 4 members. With small groups everyone is much more cautious and aware of each other but in larger groups everyone seems to run about nilly willy and only care where everyone else is when they need a heal.
Firstwhen forming a group find out what skills everyone has. Not every novice xxx title means the same skills. If you don't know what a skill is ask and don't be embarassed to do so, a very small percentage of the current population is going to be familar with all teirs of all skill trees at anytime and certainly not within early stages of release.
Next before taking off hunting set some parameters. What is the goal of the group are we doing missions or is there a certain type of mob that we are going to be hunting for.
While traveling to the campsite will we be killing mobs on the way or will we be skirting around agro's to avoid premature fighting?
Once we are ready to pull decide who is going to be pulling having one person pull one or two mobs to start with is much better than everyone in the group grabbing a differnt monster as a solo target.
As a support character the way that fighters position themselves in battle is extremely important. The stim paks that novice medics have available do not have very much range on them at all and if more than one person is being injured having to locate one of them chase them down to get into healing range then turn around and chase down the next doesn't work very well if there are several people getting injured and only one healer we may soon have incapped (or dead) fighters.
If you are being hit don't run around yelling HEAL ME! if you must run please run towards the healer not away from them.
After a fight assess the damage do we need to set up a camp here for a bit or are we good for another round. If the decision is made to set up camp everyone needs to be in it and to sit down. It does not good to have a camp with some resting and some running off to kill this one thing that becomes a cycle with one or two people constantly needing to be rehealed or to rest.
In case of a cr make decisions as to the cr plan are we going to heal up in town and then go to get the bodies or will we be setting up a camp and healing in the field. If the decision is made to heal in the field once again everyone stay in the camp and let those that need to be healed be healed.
On the medical support side be aware of not only the components needed for stims and wound kits but the time needed to make them. Currently I am using (or trying to use) stim pak b's which are a 4 step process needing a variety of resources. In a group today I made the error of only saying making stimpaks and not saying making stimpaks I'll be ready to go in xx amount of time. The result was that the group ran off and started taking damage before I had 1/2 of 1 pak made and I had no medicine to heal with and was taking mind damage to /tend.
Well said! Bravo! What galaxy are you on? I want to hunt with you!
Was wondering...I know you get a boost of exp from having a group. I also know if you solo with a pet you get a boost of exp...but what about 2 or 3 pets...does the exp climb with the more pets?
Thanks ahead of time

i never recall getting more xp grouping or using more pets.<3
when i had to grind for meditate 4 i used a webmaster to level with me and i always got 4000-4500 from giant basnitchs the extra xp went to creature xp.<3
Well for my exp I am hunting squalls on Rori....without my pet out I get around 350 each squall, with my pet its around 450. Mind, it has to be "grouped" with me. So I know there' s a difference.

The fact that pilots that pass a certain point can't group with pilots under that point is, well, annoying at best. Is this only for the time you have a starter ship? Or does this continue all the way up? If the later, then I can't understand from a gameplay perspective why such a decision would be made. If the earlier, I guess the idea is to give people time to get used to the space experience before they go off with friends doing harder stuff.
Still, better communication of this particular detail would have been appreciated. I don't think I found any place in the game manual where it was stated, and although I haven't used the search function on the forums yet, a cursory glance didn't reveal anything about it either (except a thread posting that they suspected you couldn't group with those lower than you in 'level'). If anyone has solid information on this and would like to share it, that would be great.
And still, more information on how all this works would have been great. I agree with someone that posted that there isn't a lot of official informaiton out there on how things actually work.
