Thread: Programming the Saitek X-52
I finally unplugged my Logitech 3D Pro and decided to buy the Saitek X-52 and really get into the piloting side of this game. I'd practically never flown a flight sim and my "piloting experience" came from my flying clases where... well it wasn't exactly a starfighter we were flying so 'small slow movements on the stick' was my way of life back then. I'm getting ready to fly the fighters of JTL now and I'd like some suggestions with the programming of the X52.
Obviosly the trigger should be easy access, but what else and where to put it?
Would anyone who uses the X-52 be willing to share what they've programmed the keys to?
I'm new to the JTL part of the game but I figured it was finally time to do something about my flying and I bought the Saitek X52 and a bunch of Star Wars flying games. First off, I love the feel of the Saitek compared to my Logitech 3D Pro, but I have yet to use all the options for it.
I'm not sure yet as to what I'll be needing the most (though the sticky gave me some 8 points, but I'm sure there's more that could be usefull).
As I'm just now getting used to flying with the Saitek I'm not used to any special programming and I'd like to start it so it fits SWG which is what I play the most.
Would anyone who uses the X-52 be willing to share what they've programmed the keys to?
I'd just play around with it, I added some targeting into my settings (nearest enemy player/friendly/component/etc) but not a whole lot else. If you find any good use for the sliders in this game, I'd like to hear it.
I've also got an X45, I've programmed all sorts of stuff (missiles and guns on different triggers, chaff on one weapon button, targetting commands for next enemy / player / under reticle / etc, tractor beam toggle, booster toggle, throttle settings, CtSS quick-key, last-guy-who-shot-me-targetting etc). I'd say figure out what you most use in the game to start with for commands, and see where that might work for you on the stick. Took me a week or two of playing around with various settings programmed to different buttons and switches to find a setup that's comfortable for me, but now it's great - I almost never have to take my hands off the stick or throttle, which is quite nice and definitely adds to the imersion to not have to constantly be moving back and forth from the keyboard to the stick.
Still haven't really figured out a use for rotary1 or rotary2 tho, and only using mode1 of 3 so far (eventually I'll probably have mode 1 for PvE, mode 2 for PvP, and move 3 for mining).

up - target nearest enemy player
left/right - target next/previous enemy player
down - target nearest friendly player
How do I program the rotaries on the throttle and what can it be used (efficiently) for?
Today I noticed that when I trook the throttle up near max speed it would start breaking. I went down to a speed of 49 and had to keep the throttle moving (pumping) to get the speed back up. Is that a problem with the Saitek, the game or just MY Saitek?
Your throttle needs to be set as an axixs. Sometimes your speed drops to nothing then goes back up, this is server lag doing this.
I uae my slider, defined as 2 bands, for hands free launching of missiles. Slide it forward and it will keep trying to fire a missle. Its great for bombing runs on vettes where I need to keep 1 finger on the trigger and another on the shield shunt button (my bottom button to the right of the bottom hat switch.)
