Moved the post to the more appropriate new Cities and Housing Forum. Please continue the discussion there, as I will not monitor this very thread in the Jump to Lightspeed forum anymore.
Here is the link to the new thread:

Fantastic proposal, doubtful it will be taken up though, 750 items in one house/ship could cause some people major lag, even a fully decorated guildhall turned into a mall is enough to kill most people's graphics

That's a valid point, but that can be sorted out, I think. Having 750 items that stand freely in a house is the worst case, mostly it'll be far less andmostwill be in storage containers and closets and in turn would not neccessarily have to be preloaded/prerendered.
I think with some tweaks my idea could be made possible, but that's for the developers to worry about

Feel free to chime in on the discussion, I'll gladly update the mainpost if some good ideas/solutions come up that I feel would fit in there.

It's a really good idea, any way i think 750 items is a so low number but it's true that we have also the bank and the inventory so it could work, i think developers could try it at least in one of the test center servers and if it works take it to real.

One thing I thought of a while back. Is first have the 75 items per lot actually apply to the bigger buildings. Next have items INSIDE storage units NOT count . WHile at the same time make the Storage units take up more then 1 space.
A Container would take up 2 or 3 slots. The Items that hold 50 items would take up 5 or 6. This would allow for storing Large ammounts of things that you wouldn;t have out in the open(clothes/resourses/ect) While freeing up more spaces overall to decorate.
I don;t lik ethe 750 limit as right now I use 4 of my lots for factories to store 100 items a piece in. I think the higher limit on these buildings is within reason given the higher cost of maintaining them..

What about this:
Give us a Bank Terminal for our House ..
So the (mostly) unused Bank Storage could be used as House Storage, wich frees our House item Limit for Decoration ..

There is perhaps an easy way to implement a slightly less flexible syste. Apparently, items are mapped in the servers' database to lot rather than player. So, instead of mapping the 750 items to one player/data record, just allow the number of lots consumed by a house or ship to be changed. So a small house for example could be set to use 2 lots rather than 1, thus doubling its holding capacity. Although less flexible, it would be much easier to program, I think.

Introduction:
Most players know how annoying it can be to have a big house, guildhallor a nice multipassenger starship that you can decorate only partially due to item limits tied to these structures. Whole rooms have to be left empty, if the house/ship is completely furnished, it cannot be used to store items, spare clothes and more and have to set up seperate houses just for storage. This is why I have come up with an idea of a new system, that could very well solve these issues.
(Edited for length)
Sounds like an awsome idea to me!
I hope the Devs decide to take a look.
(But how about adding an extra 250 items and make it an even 1000?

Good idea, but the 750 item limit per player is bad for crafters.
I think lots should not be needed for multi-person ships, it's stupid and severely limits artisans since they
have a lot shortage already.
have a lot shortage already.
As to house item limits, why can't they just raise this? I.e. 150 for small, 300 for medium and
450 for large houses. This would also solve the problem with the MP ships. The idea about containers,
like chests, bookcases and such - taking upmore item slots while not counting the contents sounds
like chests, bookcases and such - taking upmore item slots while not counting the contents sounds
good too, but that would not be good for the server to be honest. If these pieces of furniture would say
for example take up 5 item slots, people could jst drop 30 containers in there house and fill them up with
50 items each, totalling a whopping 1500 items in one house. This would not be good for the computers
that store our item information.
Banking terminals in houses is bad, takes up more space in your home.
There are enough terminals already in the game.

Well the best use of lots for storage is still factories, so that would be the countI would use. One lot per 100 items of storage. Change the current housing to be small house = 1 lot = 100 storage. Medium house = 2 lots = 600 storage.
And for addition storage create a new craftable. A storage bin, that costs 1 lot and holds 100 items. This way if you wanted to use all your storage in one place you would have that option.
