Alrighty, a month or so ago I hit Alliance Ace with the Vortex Squadron. Because there's nothing left to do, I was thinking of acing the other two Alliance classes. But my question is, if I drop my skills and go for another class, does that mean I will not be able to use my ace-level ships and/or ace-level equipment while doing this? In other words, will I have to use the starter ships all over again?
I know this is probably a stuipd question, but seeing as we get an Ace EXP bonus, I thought maybe the Devs would give us a bit of a break more and let us use our ships too.
Thanks.

yup, from scratch. (see sig).
If your planning on mastering under a different alliance squadron, i wouldn't bother honestly. The master pilot bonus only works by number of factions mastered (1 to 3, rebel, imp, neut), squadron mastery within one faction doesnt count.
I have heard though that you can equip a low tier fighter with higher teir equipment, and are still able to use said ship if you remaster in same faction though. Havent tested it myself, but the idea of using a Y wing, or Y wing Longprobe with L8 blasters at teir 1 sounds like a hoot.

Hmm... maybe I'll give it a try.

ya it works great. i was using a z95 with a lvl4 gun at novice and a ywing with a lvl10 at 1000 when i did my second reb squadron. the cert check for the ship parts happens when you try to equip them on the ship. if the ship was equiped before you retire, than all you need is the cert to fly it, just dont unequip the parts and your golden.
be careful though, if you leave say a awing, longprobe, and ywing equiped when you retire, you will be at your three ship limit and as a novice pilot you wont be able to use any of those ships or unequip, so you would have to destroy one so you can bust out your novice ship and get the certs agian.
i dont know if this is a feature or a loophole, but its nice to be able to switch squadrons easily (and score another set of reward items).
EDIT: you might be able to skip the novice ship if you fly as gunner in someone elses ship, but you will have to mail them every waypoint and it would proboly be alot easier to just use your z95 yourself. i dont think that works with tier2 though since from what ive seen when you are on a mission that requires you to dock and retrieve cargo, you have to be flying your own ship.

Okay, so let me see if I understand this...
You can't use, say, a B-Wing after surrendering and taking up a new squadron? But you can equip a Longprobe with, say, level 10 equipment when you get the certification for it? So you will always need certification to fly any ship-- but as long as you leave your high-level equipment on it, they work?

Also, I heard that once you mastered a pilot proffession, your xps are doubled.
Meanig thoses t1 ships would be worth 200 xps instead of 100 xps.
I have not tested this myself, tho, just heard that from a friend who did it.

Pilot Factions mastered * Mobs Xp.
Master rebel pilot, resign and start as privateer, you get mobsXP * 1 as the bonus, on top of the normal mobs xp. soo, if a mob is worth 100 XP, the bonus is (100 * 1) + the original 100 xp, = 200 xp total.
Master privateer (after resigning above mentioned rebel pilot) and start imperial, if the mob is worth 100 xp, the bonus is now (100*2) + the orignal 100 xp = 300 xp total.
Now if one was to surrender imperial and go back to anotherp rofession, now were talking (100*3) + orginal 100 = 400 xp.
Small numbers on the examples,, the xp is pretty abundant when your hitting teir 4 mobs.

All you need is the certification to fly the ship. Even if you preloaded it with higher tier equipment before surrendering your skills.
Id save 1 ship slot for the starter ship, 1 for the Y wing, and 1 for the longprobe. Ehh, or skip the Y wing and just have a starter ship (preloaded of course), Longprobe, and X wing, but, meh, by the time your certed to use an xwing, your almost into teir 7 equipment anyway.
THing with the Y wing series of ships is they have the mass to hold most anything.

oooooo, that sounds awsome, a master one of each fraction pilot and get exp times three... sounds pretty cool. i would do the rebel pilot but i won't sink that low as to resign being a imperial... just wouldn't look good for a roleplayer charrecter.

Hmm... so if I only switch to another Alliance squadron, I don't get the EXP bonus?

If you mastered rebel pilot before, you do get the X 1 bonus.
But remastering rebel pilot in a different squadron will not earn you the X2 bonus modifer, and if you should ever change professions again you will still have a X 1 bonus modifer. Multiple mastery within the same faction doesnt count in gaining a higher bonus modifer.
