After hearing some rumors that space loot has been reduced since yesterday's patch, I had to test it out myself. I run a very similar routine now, and have since making master pilot. Before heading into space, I sort and organize all my loot in my home, and clean out my inventory. I then pick up the Black Sun duty mission in Lok, and complete it all the way through. I have averaged 55 components in aBS duty mission session every day. I just completed tonight's mission, and came back with 34 looted components, which, in my opinion, is too much of a decrease to be considered "bad luck". We're talking about a 38% decrease in space loot when compared to the same routine that I have been running daily.
On a side note, while it's still too early to tell, it does appear that some capacitors have been toned down, specifically level 2 looted capacitors. I've been seeing a huge difference in the ones I've looted tonight and the ones I've looted in the past. Tonight, all level 2s were under 700 cap energy, and around 25 recharge. I have about 6 or 7 RE'd level 2s averaging 1000 cap energy, and 38 recharge. After completing the 'BS' mission all the way through, I might have one, maybe 2 useful parts that will be used in RE work, while the rest will go to the chassis dealer. This is considerably down from past nights as well.
It looks like the Devs are catering to the Shipwrights, who have been very vocal about the "loot vs. crafted" components. As it stands now, you can't loot armor anywhere near what a SW can make, and armor is the piece that will be replaced most often. There are very few shields out there that can compare, and that if after the RE work is completed (not counting rewards here...just loot). You can rarely loot reactors as good asa shipwright can make. When you consider refire rate, energy/shot, and the low mass of crafted weapons, you'd be hard pressed to compare to most of them, other than some of the high end level 10 drops.
If the Devs are going to continue down this path of "nerfing" the quality of loot drops, then lowering their quantity, they need to give us another reason to fly. This is the most fun and innovative loot system I've ever had the privilege to play, and I hate to see it go down the tubes.

On one hand, i dont mind a nerf to space loot provided that comperable or better can be crafted AND it isn't being overpriced by the profession every pilot both loves and hates at the same time.
On the other hand, i like having loot in space where i might find something useful. If everything player crafted was comperable or better, then all that space loot is just useless junk to feed to the chassis dealer. Call it a leftover asheron's call or diablo 2 mentality, but i like finding rare items once in awhile that make you go, "WOW!".

I'd like to start getting things instead of components.
I'd like to start getting clothing as well. If Black Sun Ace Helmets are lootable, what about bounty hunter helmets and other armor pieces?
It'd also be interesting to see things like Pirate Flags or a piece of a TIE cockpit window for Rebels to loot, and Imperials could loot the blow up remains of a Rebel ship's droid, that is if it has one, if it doesnt then it would either drop maybe, I dunno- just something besides components all the time.
Yes I got most of my ideas from X-Wing Alliance.

All of these things would be nice, but the point is that none of them are in-game, and the only loot in space has been extremely reduced.

I'm very disheartened to hear about even more nerfs to space loot. It is most definently one of the cooler aspects of flying in space. There is absolutely zero reason for SW's to whine about quality of space loot, nor has there been. Its a shame if the devs keep caving in to them. There is a thriving ongoing nonstop SW market and space loot needs to be left the hell alone. There "has been" and "will continue to be" a huge need for shipwright made components and chasis. The only SW's I see crying about spaceloot are the ones here in the forums, none i speak to in game (so far) have any issues with space loot quality.
So to all the SW's whining about space loot... CHILL OUT! Before you get what you ask for and ruin half the fun of flying in space.

Ya know, what I dont get is if shipwrights cant make as good as stuff as I can find why bother.. Also why is it so hard to loot engines in this game. I get everything else but engines most of the time. Whats up with that...

I must really be the exception to the rule because I'm still getting just as much loot as ever...

I hear ya cry4dawn, ive looted a TON of space loot and havent got many engines percentage wise, the ones i have gotten have been pure trash really. I htink its just the oll of the dice tho because i know a few that have gotten sweet engines, so they definently drop.

i have seen a defenite decrease in loot but its intermittent, one nite ill get close to nothing the next ill loot 20 components. And cryfordawn, i frequently get engines and good ones. Engines boosters reactors and caps are what i get most frequently, i hardly evr get deflector sheilds and blasters. By the way do you need to be a shipwrite to reverse engineer?

I'm getting zero loot, but when you CTD whenever you're in space, that tends to make one not want to fly
On the other hand, are any of us really surprised over nerfs like this? I swear the devs are anti-player fun.

I am wondering, does looting have anything to do with how close you are?

I had forgatten about this post and decided to frind away at Tier 4 some more. Finished and didn't even think to check my Inventory. Its FULL of loot. I have to go seel first thing when I log.

I'm of the opinion that the good loot ought to be...errr...components of components...pieces that shipwrights can use to make better components.
