Thread: Tiggs why are the devs silent on Laser Convergence?

of course you do realize that lack of convergance has its own advantagous right?

SUre not all 4 beams will hit, but in the case of an Xwing, you only need to hit with 2 beams to do full damage regardless, as two beams or 4 beams hitting, you'll do the same damage.

If added at all, the convergence should be adjustable on-the-fly to for example 100m, 200m, 300m, etc.

Thats too much effort, let a droid do it.

The only time my shots go around my target is when I'm less than 30m from it. At that point, convergence won't help, unless your guns can turn 90 degrees.

If you are too close to the target (100m or less)and your lasers are mounted wide (x-wing,B-wing, tie interceptor, ect) your shots will go around the target and converge somewhere in space.

I dont see this as a major problem, and I had no problem with Tie Intercepter with convergence

Ships with center mounted guns dont have this problem, you will hit what your aiming at and do full damage. Wide mounted guns will most likely only hit with 1 or 2 beams. with 1 gun split 4 ways you are only doing 1/4 to 1/2 of the damage the gun is capeable of. Very rarely will you hit with all 4 beams even at proper distance from target. See the problem?

You are incorrect on this you can still miss with center mounted weapons.

server side hit detection any hickups in the server and hits will register as misses

Well you see....technically speaking the weapons do hit the center point; you just gotta find the "sweet spot". If your 100m or less from the ship your shooting at, and all the weapons were shooting directly at the center mass of your target. Your weapons would be pretty much shooting at your ship.

I don't have a problem with this, and frankly I don't see the problem. Move your ship....Slow down....or fly a different ship.

Addapting to each ship is what makes this game so awesome. If every ship fired dead center regardless how close or far away a target is at, people would get the ship that could hold the most weapons and mass and not worry about anything else. Like speed or manuverability.

If I take my B-wing out (which *COULD*have 4 Tri Cannons and 2 launchers) and I could hit ever target with all 4 cannons everytime, I would not play this game. All you would need is one good shot and you would have no more ship. Not much challenge to that.

So again, to answer your question, no I don't see a problem.

Personal Opinion>>I think the DEV's should go play some X-Wing Alliance and talk with lucas arts more instead of try to go their SOE ways...

There have been several posts on this forum about it. I play a lot of jtl. I definitely think it's something that needs to be addressed. The bwing and firespray are very much in need of it. I know the xwing game had at least a toggle for it. Are the devs working on it or is the lack of laser convergence intentional and not going to be added?

Not exactly sure what your looking for, but if you press "g" you can do whatever you want to your weapons

I don't know, but I wish everyone else was silent on it too.

Yeah, everyone on these forums is a better game designer than the devs right?

I bet you guys get paid to do it, too, because you're so much better.

How bout you all just shut it and play the game and get over yourselves.

That's why there should be a toggle key, like in XWA, so you can swtich it on and off as needed.

Well you see,for some ships such as the Firespray, there's no sweet spot. The laser boltsnever ever converge within the maximum range of the weapons.

Exactly, go and talk to Totally Games (don't talk to Lucas Arts as they know nothing too; just a publisher). Laser convergence can be implemented either automatic (as in XWA) or manual (previous X-Wing games).
