Thread: Simple and to the point: IS ALL THE WORK TO GET JEDI WORTH IT?

Is all the effort worth it? Without having a jedi I would have no idea. I have been playing for almost 2 years and have recently just started the FS grind. Currently I have two branches unlocked and maybe 500k FS XP banked.

It seems im hearing more and more about jedi only playing their alts.

All opinions (and reasons for them) are welcome.

depends on what you want

if you go in thinking its an alpha class you will be hugely dissappointed

if you go in just because you want to be a jedi or because you want to RP or stuff like that, then you'll be fine

but these days in terms of "worth" it, its in the eye of the beholder, i wouldn't trade mine for anything, but that doesn't mean i dont' have certain dissappointments in what the profession has become since CU

edited to say : i should also point out that i'm grinding out my alt thru FS atm for a second jedi, because i want my more serious jedi (with pre-cu saber) and i want one that has all the skills i want but can't fit in

It was worth everything pre-cu and pre-pub 9.

Now it's not worth it. This is coming from a pre publish 9 Jedi with a 775 DPS 1.14 speed and 725 Max damage 10 FC saber.

Jedi is very much worth it if is isnt your sole character you use. Whilst many spend more time on alts, me included, every time the saber fires up (well over a year now) I still get a feeling of achievement however I unlocked the old wayand as such take pride in the fact that IMO it was much harder (no flame just my opinion)

For me the current grind is easier than it was to get MBH when I did it without a mount or bike.

If youuse your jedi 24/7 I could see it becomming very boring after about a week as many post CU jedi have.

This is the best advice really. The "worth" of a Jedi slot is contingent upon the player. In terms of raw "power" though, Jedi is not what it used to be. Having been pre-CU myself, I can easily compare the two. However, I don't regret unlocking for a second. Personally I wish my alt had been the Jedi, but that's neither here nor there.

Only you can determine if a Jedi is worth it or not. If you're unlocking to be "uber", it's my opinion that you're doing it for the wrong reason in the first place.

Good luck in whatever your decide.

I think Jedi was worth it in two ways for me:

  • The variety it provides.... I have one crafter, one normal prof, and one jedi. In that regard, my Jedi is another play style for me than the other two toons I have.

  • The 2nd toon. I have three toons but only two accounts and this was made possible by getting my Jedi.... I would much rather do it this way than be paying for three accounts.

It is truly up to the individual to figure out if Jedi was truly worth it for them but it at least gave me something else to achieve. Now that my Jedi is fully templated I have had fun the last few days running around PvPing with people from my guild which is something new for me (I never PvP'ed in the past or if I did I always was horrible at it). I quite honestly am contemplating getting Jedi with my 2nd account just to unlock another toon but the FS-grind is not something I was fond of and the fact that my 2nd toon is a crafter means that it would be much slower for me than if I had a combat prof to level.

That being said, I would go for your Jedi.... if you end up not liking it you will have the 2nd toon it creates to do normal things that you have always enjoyed (or you can even drop all your jedi skills and move your first toon back to normal profs - with 24 points in FS skills of course).

How can you be so succesful about being that late?? 2 years of gameplay and you unlocked fs new? I am playing for only 8months and MLS/def 3343/enhance xxx2/heal 3xxx.And its really worth it because I had a lightstick

No everyone measures success by getting Jedi. Are you saying that a crafter who has been committed to their prof for 2+ years and has over 100 Million credits is UN-SUCCESSFUL? I will have to go against that argument. Some people have different goals in this game and not all of them are to get Jedi as fast as they can.

Depends on why you play this game. If you play to be the l33tness, then no, as you can be just as l33t w/ regular proffs for alot less work. If you play to roleplay and you want to be a Jedi, then yes, any amount of work is worth it.

oh dear, please try to understand that not everyone wants Jedi and wants it now. Myself I have been playing for coming up to two years now, and during that time I have played SWG for the experience and fun of it and only bothered about working towards Jedi when I feel like it and I have fun with it, the instant I got bored with Jedi Grinding I quit that and move on to something I would enjoy.

I started going for Jedi around about publish 7 or so when the holo grind was about. Sure I could have busted my buns going all out, but I think I would have burnt out and quit the game if that was all I did.

You say "How can you be so succesful about being that late??". Well I counter with "How can you be so succesful about being that early??". Have you experienced all the content this game has to offer before Jedi? Have you built up a successful crafting industry?

I personally have had Jedi unlocked now since a month into the CU and I am only 4-0-4-0 Defender and nothing else. To tell the truth I will probably remain at that for a little while yet, but does that make me unsuccessful in your eyes because I am not a full Jedi? It don't in my eyes as I have managed to pull in around about 40 million in credits with my Hybrid def/Rifleman. I measure my success in this game as to how much I enjoy it, and that is all the criteria I bother.

If you want to be the bane of SWG than become Jedi. The reward for being a Jedi is hardly worth it.

Thanks for the feedback so far. Here's mine...

There are two reasons that I have been playing for almost 2 years and dont have jedi status:

1. Ive been busy exploring other aspects of the game, hunting, questing, socializing, guilding, etc...

2. I am a hardcore RP person. The movies suggest that the path to jedi takes a lifetime and still doesnt usually result in a Mace/Yoda quality jedi. It has taken me this long through my toon's history to get to the point where jedi would make sense.

There are 2 reasons why I am chasing jedi at this point:

1. It makes sense for where my toon is at this time (RP storylines and background)

2. Ive done most everything else and the game is getting boring. I think RPing a jedi the way that they should be played (i.e. none ran around theed flashing glow sticks and talking about how l33t they were in the movies) would be fun and rewarding.
