From http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=nge_discussion&message.id=3064

  1. Are all the combat abilities going away?
All combat abilities are brand new to fit the new fast-action system. Entertainer, Trader, Pilot, and Politician abilities will remain unchanged.

Well thats nice of them.

I found this one too... it is a quote from Tiggs

The only changes to Pilot profession is the order in which you earn skills.

And you believe what Tiggs says?

Really, just think about it calmly and logically.

1. They are dumbing down the ground game for people who cant get beyond the tremendously easy low levels.

2. Pilot has complexity and is hard for a lot of people to progress.

If you take 1 and extraploate that there will be many more barely literate moronic leetspeakers who need everything handed to them on a plate flocking to the new SWG experience then it stands to reason there will be more players of this nature trying space. When they get to space they will just cry "Boohoo, this is to hard, i have to actually think about thinks and there are risks, this isnt Star Warsy or fun at all!"

This will lead to the removal of all decay and death penalties in space and the introduction of generic loot components with identical stats, plus the replacement of all 9 pilot professions with one generic, faction neautral pilot profession. Dont think thats likely, well its just what is happening all over the ground.

No matter how many times people say "Well at tleast pilots are the same, in fact we are getting new cool stuff like flying into space stations and boarding!", I say "We are staying the way we are for now and SWBF2 does FPS ground combat, space combat and flying in to assault enemy ships, faster, more Star Warsy and with better graphics than SWG will ever do, plus you only pay for it once"

Ok... lets think about this calmly and logically and not let our fear of change turn us into an irrational mob like the other professions.

1. we don't know anything about the new system except what the devs have said and since we all know that they are not 100% reliable we can rule out that info. There we know nothing and everything you are complaining about is irrelevent and speculation.

2. We won't have any reliable info till it starts coming in from TC and even that can change before it goes live.

3. Since we have no factual and reliable information, speculating about what could happen in the future is nothing more than focusing on one of infinite possibilities.

4. We don't have a choice. There is nothing we can do to stop any of this from happening (reference the CU protests). All we can do is adapt or play another game. Regardless of which choice you make, whining about it now is not going to help anyone.

There we know nothing and everything you are complaining about is irrelevent and speculation. The devs have stated that they want to remove complexity and risk from the game. That means it becomes easy and boring, that is the whole raison d`etre for thenew game. That is set in stone, that will not change.

2. We won't have any reliable info till it starts coming in from TC and even that can change before it goes live. It wont change from making it easy and risk free. Some 5 yr olds cannot play the game so it has to be changed to accomodate them.

3. Since we have no factual and reliable information, speculating about what could happen in the future is nothing more than focusing on one of infinite possibilities. They are not infinite possibilites, just 9, 7 of them combat.

4. We don't have a choice. There is nothing we can do to stop any of this from happening (reference the CU protests). All we can do is adapt or play another game. Regardless of which choice you make, whining about it now is not going to help anyone. Whining is not taking the information presented, looking at previous trends, and formulating a hypothesis. That is a reasoned argument. Whining is repeating over and over, this going to be okay, its going to be okay, its going to be okay, its going to be okay. The best defense is an offense i.e. dont wait for them to screw everything upobefore talking about it, get in now to PREVENT them possibly/likely screwing it up.

But I mean if you really want to play a ground FPS SW game with no depth coupled with a space game that will follow it in that regard then more power to you. I just think it will be difficult to find anyone other than children playing. After all, its the complexity and risk versus reward factors that attract the more adult and mature player.

Personally, I think a MMORPG/FPS trainer with 5 yr old graphics, rubbish sound, no complexity, no risk (which makes any reward worthless), huge lag, dwindling numbers, a completely mental group of people in charge of it, and no opportunity to be unique can in anyway compete with SWBF2 or Empires at War next year.

Err...ummm...why would you want to compete with your own product?

All those games are made by Lucasarts. I plan to play all three.

I wanted to play all 3

1. SWG for the complexity of a MMORPG set in the star wars universse

2. SWBF2 fior mindless star wars blasting fun

3. Empires for star wars RTS fun.

Since 1 and 2 are now the same except 2 will be more fun and look much better, you only have to pay for 2!
