Introduction

Goal: Present to everyone some ideas I had to go along with Gizmo's Jedi Revamp (the sticked thing). I'll try to present this document as a mini publish descriptive. I hope it to be clear and open to all input you could do.
Mini-Publish Theme: Jedi "Force Reading"
Main idea: Add some brand new abilities for Jedi to study and read the Force

Context

Informations gathered through Starwars movies and books:
- everything is the Force (even very little particles)
- Jedi can manipulate the Force to communicate, serch, sense, hide, and more ...
- Force communication is very limited: a few words at most, or some vague feelings like despair, joy, ...
- Jedi can get some feelings about discord or harmony of distant zones
- some Jedi can see future while meditating (sure, future may change)
- Precision in "Force Reading" fades with 2 factor: distance and force perturbation

Common base knowledge to work on this theme:
- we are playing a game
- it implies some implementation constraints
- a lot of player argue about Jedi
- everyone has the same goal: having fun
- let's put in some more fun and starwars feeling

New Force Abilities

Force Examine

command: /forceExamine
force cost: 50
gives visibility: yes if NPC/PC within 32m
restriction: none
effect: examine target through his signature in the Force allowing deep understanding
related abilities:
- Force Examine: level of understanding of the Force (see parenthesis for details)
- Force Examine Range: maximum distance you can be from your target
side notes:
- this ability is a 75% success pacific force attack against force sensitive targets (NightSisters, Jedi players, ...)
- if the target is not force sensitive, it's 95% success (5% reserved for critical failures)
- upon success it pops up a window detailling characteristics of the target
- upon failure you get a TEF and the target may attack you (if the NPC is either yellow of red on radar it auto agro you)
- while going from initiate to full grown padawan it works like scout's creature knowledge concerning creatures
- during this phase it also permits you to see items that a NPC may give to you (quest items, loot, etc...)
- when reaching Knight rank and up to master you gain the ability to know better info from player targets (their template, friends, etc ...)

Force Listen

command: none (natural passive ability)
force cost: 0
gives visibility: no
restriction: none
effect: is a natural talent detecting incoming force information.
related abilities:
- Force Listen Range: you can only be advertised of Force Messages sent within this range
side notes:
- the messages you receive can be of 3 types
- danger: whenever a BH is coming after you in your range, he does a 20% success roll to stay undetected, if he fails you are informed of his presence
- broadcasts: if Knight, you are informed more or less precisely of Knight+ battles (whenever 2 knight of opposing Jedi faction or 2 knights of your own faction fight against each other, a broadcast is sent. If the epicenter is within your range you are informed and can go there to help your Jedi faction or check the current fratricid duel).
- game broadcast: you are particulary sensitive to what's happenning in the SWG world and receive a little more classical broadcasts than the non Jedi player to inform you about events going around (for example you receive the messages from all the planets, not just your current one)

Force Stealth

command: /forceStealth
force cost: 0 but stops the regeneration of the force while active
gives visibility: yes if NPC/PC within 32m
restriction: can't be cast during the 60s following a use of any force power or LightSaber special
effect: try to prevent you from being seen by a Jedi /forceSeek (works like a scout mask scent)
related abilities:
- Force Stealth: percentage of success to remain stealth went a Jedi reads the force to detect presences
side notes:
- using /forStealth works like a switch, use it again to cancel it
- if your ability is high enough it also makes you appear (physically talking) neutral with an empty /examine to anyone but knights (perfect to travel peacefully)
- you get a 100% success Force Stealth after each load of the user interface (when switching planets etc) during 20s
- a use of any force power or LightSaber special breaks the Stealth status

Force Seek

command: /forceSeek
force cost: 100
gives visibility: yes if NPC/PC within 32m
restriction: none
effect: reads the force in order to locate things like: creatures, NPC, players
related abilities:
- Force Seek: percentage of success to detect each target that are within your seek range
- Force Seek Range: max distance attained by the seek
- Force Seek Delay: delay between 2 seeks
side notes:
- when you /forceSeek it pops up a menu allowing to either look for: creature, NPC, player, local force equilibrium or galaxy force equilibrium
- if you choose creatures or NPC it works like /areaTrack of ranger
- if you choose players it works like an enhanced /areaTrack of ranger that may give at best level either a waypoint on your planet or the name of the planet where the target player is (and a waypoint there if the target is force sensitive = more easy to locate)
- both force equilibrium are available only at knight level
- if you choose local force equilibrium, you get a popup listing 2 categories: threats and safe. the first lists the detected menaces (bh coming for you, overts of the opposing GCW faction and detected opposing Jedi), and safe the GCW overts of your faction and Jedi Knight of the same faction as you.
- in this local version, you only get the names of the players you already encountered once at least, the others are anonyms (example: 17 anonyms in Safe part), if your level is adequate you can get a waypoint on any of them
- if you choose galaxy force equilibrium, you scan all planets for the presence of allies and opposing Knights and get a count of the detected ones of each category, example: Tatooine 5/17, rori 2/0, ...), then you can move to these planets and local scan them to find your knight opponents
- caps are: creature:512m, NPC:1024m, player:current planet, force sensitive and jedi player:galaxy (because of their impact on the force they are detected more far)
- finally you can click on any target result to launch a Force Examine if it's in your range

Example

Force Seek/Stealth represent a percentage of success. When used, a random from 1 to 100 is rolled. If between 1 and actual skill level, it succeeds. Else It fails.

It would work like this:
Jedi A do /forceSeek. It rolls a failure. Nothing happens.
Jedi A wait 30s and do /forceSeek again. "You have to wait 90s more to be able to use this ability" appears. Then nothing happens.
Jedi A wait 90s more then do /forceSeek again. It rolls a success.
Jedi B, C and D are in the sensitivity range. Both do a roll.
Jedi B is not /forceStealth-ing. He auto fails due to that. He's detected.
Jedi C is /forceStealth-ing. He rolls a success. He's not detected.
Jedi D is /forceStealth-ing. He rolls a failure. He's detected.
A popup appears with 2 sections: Safe and Threats.
All Jedi of the same Jedi Knight or GCW faction as well as neutrals appears in the Safe part, all Jedi belonging to the opposite one in the Threats one.
If Jedi A had roll a success, any BH having a mission targetting him and being in the /forceSeek range are also auto added to the Threats list.
Jedi A was a padawan so only the names appears, nothing more.
Jedi can now close the popup, he's informed.

Force Stealth/Seek progression is not cumulative but rather related to 2 things: force progressions (initiate, padawan, knight, guardian, master) and highest cost skill owned (padawan, novice, 1xxx, 2xxx, 3xxx, 4xxx, master).

Force Reading Evolution

About force progression:
- a Padawan is learning the ways of the force through a PVE environment that may include some Galactic Civil War PVP
- a Padawan should learn more and more about the nature and the force along his progression in the force
- a Padawan should learn some basic Jedi knowledge like being able to read feelings, danger, or recognize a familiar presence in the force
- a Knight is a full grown Padawan who made the choice to serve its Jedi Knight faction (either Light or Dark)
- a Knight live to fight against its faction enemies (only PVP actually)
- a Knight should gain some special Force reading powers to help doing so while sticking to story as much as possible
- a Knight may try to "see" if opposants are actually running around on its current planet as well as try to figure if an other planet presents any kind of disturbance in the force
- a Guardian should be able to guide Knights more precisely for them to run faster into opposing Jedi
- a Master should be even more precise than a Guardian and have the ability to broadcast some messages in the force that could be heard by force sensitive players

Here's an example of progression (not cumulative numbers, they are absolute)

Conclusion

As a side note, remember the movies: Luke or Vador can detect each other precisely (not a waypoint but sensing a named person being in the player's force sensitivity range). About the BH part: only the BH in range and having actually a mission on the jedi player should also appear. Why? Because everything is the force (even water or space, everything is the force) and because the attacking BH is a threat: a disturbance in the force.

That's why I think these ideas may fit in a coherent SW virtual world.

Please give me constructive input. I'd love to include all your ideas or modify mines.

I really like this idea I can imagine just grinding away and a message box pops up "You sense a disturbence in the force" and you get options like what you were talking about. Also it might be kinda cool that you get the same type of thing when a Jedi Falls if you are on the same planet.

Great Idea!

change hide to stealth or something. no offence, just hide doesnt sound very jedi-ish, while something like force stealth is more along the lines.

You know the functioning for detecting a disturbance in the force is already there in the coding soit seems.

first, when you run one of the village missions when you have to patrol waypoints for groups of sith (attack 3 or less, ignore more than 3), you get the message "you hear footsteps.......yada yada" right before the sith appear at your waypoint.......so thetrigger seems to be there already, just the devs haven't expanded it into the jedi skills.

second, the skill mod alertness from fencer, commando and BHare supposed to act like a protection from surprise attacks or something (think it's snipers surprise attack though).....at least that's about what I recall it's supposed to do....

Sounds like they could combine both of these and tweak it a bit and make it into a "disturbance in the force ability" and add the /forcehide and /forceseek ability too.

.....but yes, there should be a disturbance in the force type ability or some way to sense danger and automatically defend agaisn't a Bh that gets the first shot.....

Yes, good ideas you have.....
