Thread: Would you like to not be involved in PvP with your Jedi?

I simply would like to understand how many people are not interested in the PvP aspects of the Jedi profession.

I for one, am not interested in the PvP aspects. Although I enjoy PvP in a well thought out PvP system, this is not one of them. Of course, this is just my opinion.

As far as raids go, no, its suicide, at least until Guardian levels, and even then the No Defense thing has us gimped.

As far as the "Everyone's out to get me" part, *shrug* its what I deal with everytime I click the login button. Sure, its gonna suck when the bounty hunters can find us quickly, but oh well. Keep spices hotkeyed and ALWAYS know your surroundings.

From the player manual:

The Star Wars Galaxies™ Player-versus-Player combat system (or PvP) allows players to fight one another within the context of the greater Galactic Civil War. PvP combat is not enabled by default; instead, you must actively choose to participate in the PvP system and make yourself vulnerable to attacks by other players.

Some might argue that you are actively choosing to participate in PvP by unlocking your slot. I would argue that was never the intent of this message.

/agree Jedi PvP is a part of the being one. Having said that, the devs did a great job of making Jedi rare and obscure. Jedi hide all the time and we almost never see one. When I play my main, I never do see Jedi.

We don't have time to discuss this in a committee.

If you did'nt delete the email you recieved when you created your Jedi character you will notice it says "All Jedi are permanently PvP enabled". So its coming directly from the Devs. In other words just being a covert faction member means you agree to PvP at some point. Notice Nuetrals cannot get TEF's.

Anyway asa Jedi myself I do not mind PvP. In fact I think that having a Jedi an not using my power at some point to affect the GCW would make having the character kind of pointless beyond just role play. BUT the problem is our characters are weak. Between the No Defense, Inability to spam specials, and a lightsaber that is 90% resisted in PvP what the hell im I gonna accomplish besides a quick death? When and if Jedi are made the strong combat class they are meant to be then I will probly actively seek out PvP from time to time.

It's not that I'm interested in the PvP aspects in particular, but I find the risk of playing as a Jedi to be very exciting. Today I was in a cave fighting some things due to boredom more or less, and a blue dot showed up at the mouth of the cave. I waited for my JEF to wear off as I watched him slowly (very very slowly) come down. He was either curious or waiting for backup. The excitement as I watched the little dot move on radar and my JEF timer tick down was quite exhilirating. In the end my flag expired before anything came of it, but I had lots of fun.

If you want to be a Jedi but can't stand participating in PvP, don't bother with the grind. You're only torturing yourself.

If you opened your slot, you must have read the Jedi Welcome Letter. Check the 5th paragraph, and specifically, the second line.

I feel the same way when i see a blue dot... its great even tho im not the biggest PvPer out there. I total agree with the current jedi TEF system. without it you would see jedis just hanging out at the starport, dueling each other, showing off, stuff like that... it would go against the continuity of the time period (not that in a big stickler about that. but it does add some element of role playing)

Obviously i would like to see some defences added to jedi so that we could actually defend ourselves. i think if jedis were as dangerous as the devs promised (and the movies dictate) then being perma pvp wouldnt be as much of an issue. as is stands now, nobody is afraid of a jedi so everyone is willing to take a shot at us. it makes for a hard life.

I think that perhaps some of you missed my point.

I am not contending that Jedi are NOT Pvp. I certainly know they are.

I am contending that they should not necessarily be PvP. I believe the game advertised a choice to PvP and for good reasons. I am questioning why that choice is not extended to Jedi.

Although I'm not particularly interested in PvP, I like the fact that it can happen....I've never done much with the GCW, but would like to become more involved in the future. I guess the main thing I'm excited about is the revamp and future of the class. You have to remember this game is SO young. It still has so much room to grow and it will in the coming months. Space flight, etc will just continue to open new and more exciting content.

Personally, I look forward to when I can actively group with other and bring the jedi into the MMOG world. Playing solo gets REALLY old. Not to mention mindlessly running around killing everything in sight!! I guess I really look forward to the day that I can get more out of the class via quests, themeparks, etc. I hope the dev's tweak the visibility monitor GREATLY! Only raise the visibility when attacking opposite factions for instance....I have absolutely nothing against bh missions and think they are GREAT for the game, but I think they should make the missions and their posting more logical. To make the class more fun it desperately needs more content. Again, I'm patient. I know it will come. And whining and crying isn't going to speed it up.... :-p Everquest had it's growing pains too and this is already headed in a better and broader direction....Patience is the key.....

Thank you for a reasonable criticism of the idea. I would agree that it may not be consistent with the time period to have Jedi hanging around star ports dueling each other since they are supposed to be in hiding.

I however would suggest that there are plenty of NPC's that could make survival of a Jedi in a city environment a difficult thing and doesn't required PvP.

PvP in itself is not inherent to the story line.
