I think someone said that MenH's force armor 2 is equal to like 5k in defense. Whereas MDEF is like 7-8k in def.
4/0/4/0 def and x4xx enh gives like 10k in def. or something like that. heh.

The diffrence is ranged and melee defense, and no force cost for defender.

Everyone has 20 innate, it's the same as 2000 Armor.
M.Def adds 50 + the 20 = 7000 Armor.
M.Enh stays at 20, Force Armor 2 adds +40 = 6000 Armor.

Pretty close I believe. Force Armor with 4/0/4/0 Defender gives the highest defense, the downside to it is that you eat up force pretty heavily.
MDEF has slightly less defense but they don't eat force so they can tank all day and night. With force armor, when you run out of force, you just ran out of tanking ability.

I've been both mdef and menh. They take different play styles and different actions in combat. But basically the only difference I saw was
def=passive defense
enh=active defense

he means force armor has to be reapplied every 30 minutes. where as mdef is just mdef. it's always on.

The defenses in Defender are always there, you dont have to keep applying them (with the exception of aura), that's what is meant by passive. Your main strength in Defense is that it has very low force cost and you dont have to make sure you turn force armor on. Enhancers have to turn on their force armor to have the defense, making it an active defense, and it takes more force, but if you have a good channelforce macro then you quite possibly wont notice your force dropping. Really, they are both good styles, its more about what you would like to do. Whichever one you pick, practice as much as you can with friends, and dont hesitate to ask for more advice.

Well formula was already postet:
Jedi Initiate = 20 innate jedi armor
Nov Defender = +10 innate Jedi Armor
Force Armor 1 = +20 innate Jedi Armor 15 Minutes
Force Armor 2 = +40 innate Jedi Armor 30 Minutes
As Master Def that gives you Innate Jedi Armor 70.
Being a Master Enhancer, Master LS, Healer 4010, Nov Defender as i am, you also have innate Jedi Armor 70 (that is 7000 armor = 20+10+40 with Force Armor 2 on)
What is the difference:
You forget to turn FA2 on you have a prob
You slightly lose Force when being hit. IMHO that force loss is second to none, you burn force much faster with Master LS attacks.
The advantage is you get MDef armor with just Novice Defender and Enhancer x4xx (much less Skillpoints to spent) but the drawback on enhancer is, that when you are out of force you are "out of armor". Means Force Armor turns off and thats it, so better pick up a double Master template for max force..
Type of armor is always "Innate jedi Armor" so each and every effect is same for Defender & Enhancer likewise (Like ArmorBreak effect).

MEnh compared to MDef:
- 1000 less Armor Rating
- 700 less ranged / melee / force defense
- Force lost for every hit taken (8% of the damage mitigated)
- less saber block
I myself have Def 0040 / Enh x4xx, that is compared to MDef:
- same Armor Rating
- 200 less ranged / melee / force defense
- Force lost for every hit taken (8% of the damage mitigated)
- less saber block

Some actual "hit" numbers:
Tanking Level 82 Pickets
ME - 151 damage taken
MD - 97 damage taken (I think this is accurate if i recall correctly)
