Thread: Jedi were special in the Movies, are they in SWG?
Ok, this post is a follow up to causal post I made, but I wanted to start a thread on this and see if anyone could come up with an answer.
Jedi has taken a year for many of us to grind, and even the newer Jedi, a month or two if they were hard core grinders - in addition to the FRS. So Jedi is a considerable investment in this game, and the strongest longevity for a fan base for SOE, whether the developers 'get' this or not.
So with this in mind How do Jedi compare to any other profession that can be ground by a new player in a day or two. Like a TKM/Doc combination etc.
I hope everyone gives this some thought and responds, and maybe our leader will get this to the development planning team. This should be a challenge for us to try to find, and debate, and possibly show how ridiculous Jedi really are in the SWG world and how far from what G. Lucas envisioned.
In the movies Jedi were special, they had access to the force, they could sense things, were masters at combat, could use psychokinesis, etc.
In SWG when I first became a Jedi, I had abilities that were UNIQUE to being a jedi, I could heal my mind for example, I could scare away animals. Go to the pre-CU templates for example. Many of the things we could do were special and special only to Jedi.
Now Post CU, and as Jedi keep getting nerfed to be weaker and weaker and are now debatably to the point weaker than other 2 day grind templates in the game, what is special about being a Jedi?
Out of all the Skills available to Jedi, can you find ANYTHING that another profession can not only obtain and do, but often do better.
Let me start this off with a couple of examples - We should do both pros and cons.
A Unique Ability - With qualifiers
Force Run 2-3, This is Unique to Jedi - However it has been reduced in speed (slower than someone hopping on a bike) and with the right foods, a non-jedi can run as fast as FR2 if they have terrain negotiation Clothing. Additionally, even though this ability is a 'bit' unique, your damage is reduced 99% when using it. Add to this that most professions have Snares, and Roots, etc, most professions can stop you dead in your tracks now.
A non-unique Ability
Healing - The entire Healing Tree is for the most part worthless except 4xxx. Even a Master healer can do a real total heal on themselves, and the FC for doing so is insane. A Doctor can out heal any Jedi, and do it faster. A Jedi can only heal every 6 secs. And there is nothing unique to this heal anymore, as we don't have mind heal (as no need for it). A Doctor can Heal every 2secs alternating heals and heal each 2 secs from 1600-2000 fo the better heal and 800-1200 on the second heal.
Cloak is currently the ONLY non-nerfed Unique Jedi ability, however Rifleman can Cover and now Rangers will be able to Cloak. (Also Riflemen can do damage while covered, Cloaked Jedi Can't) - Add in the new nerfs pending, and Cloak become worthless.
(Devs listen, leave Cloak's abilities alone - if you need to, move it to the Master Box, but don't destroy it. – And why SNARE? Just like I said with AI, if the person you are fighting, isn’t smart enough to root or snare you, then why should the system give them a free Snare cause you need to use a Jedi ability. – If they don’t snare or root you before you run off to cloak, that is their fault – why is the game helping people that are inept in their combat profession when fighting you? –And yes I have a BH toon, and yes, if I am dumb enough not to snare the person and let them run away, that is MY fault for sucking at what I do, and I shouldn’t get a system assist by having them snared. This is against how the game is structured completely.)
Now I challenge other Jedis to look through their trees and find a unique ability that only Jedi can do in the Game. Then we can debate if it is unique or what the penalty of it is.
Maybe by looking at a complete list of Jedi abilities compared to other professions, the Developers might be inspired to actually give back to the Jedi community something that makes then unique again, instead of 'nerfing' any outstanding ability that does make the unique like Cloak does now.
But do a bit of research, I can see people ready to hit the reply button adn put AI is unique. In a way they are correct, but a Smuggler can Feign Death, and become invulnerable to ever dying. Additionally AI adds the snares so anyone using AI become fodder and dies most of the time it is used. Also TKMs have Force of Will to recover from an Incap. So is AI really Unique? And this is also a MASTER LEVEL Box, and the Jedi like myself, don't our AI because we know 9 of 10 we will die because of it.
Ok, hopefully people will think about this a bit and maybe we can actually get some developer attention on how 'non-special' it is to be a Jedi anymore.
Even if they would add abilities that don’t give us power, but are unique it would be a step in the right direction. There are a lot of things that need to be added to Jedi. As an example, take the old ‘Scare Animal’, for the most part semi-worthless except for when a newbie was grinding, but it was something no one else could do.

Maybe the developers or a CR person could find something that makes Jedi unique... Hm...
cloak - u mentioned but i will too cause its that unique
AI - can be looped and make u pretty much invincible for as long as ur force lasts
Aura - more powerful than the BH version
extra character slot - like 15 bucks a month free if u ask me
master defenders mitigate more damage than any ranged template and 90% of melee templates

Force Armor - It is 'unique' in its name, but in reality other professions can wear regular armor, and TKMs can even do better than that and use Innate Armor - which is stronger even.
But Jedi can't wear any other armor... They get Force or Innate. It would be different if this was the old old days and Jedi could wear Comp or Battle Armor. Additionally, crafted armor is stronger than Force Armor and Force Armor drops the Force bar rather fast - something a person wearing regular armor doesn't have to worry about.
Cloak - Yep currently the last un-nerfed unique ability.
AI - Ya it can be looped, but since you are snared, not much help 99% of the time. Also it eats so much force that even the best Jedi can only flip it 4 times in a row usually. Oh, also when looping it, while the two are stacked, the snare stacks, so you are rooted, not just snared.
Aura - It is exactly the same as any Melee COB - both add +500 to defense. (I have a TKM/Doc - I can guarantee the COB and Aura are the exact same ability with the exact same mods.) This is NOT special what so ever...
Extra Slot - Ya, that is probablly good for some people, however I just bought another copy of the game when I needed a new toon. And how is this a Jedi 'abiliity'? Maybe if you would flip to your Alt as a disguise Mind Trick I might go with you on this.
master defenders mitigate more damage - Even you state more than a 'ranged profession' and also you admit melee professions can have even more defense. Take a stacked TKM/Sword/Pike template for example. Additionally Ranged professions can wear 'additional' armor, Jedi can't wear any armor. So this is unique in what way again? A) Melee professions can get more innate protection and defense B) Ranged professions can compensate with Armor. (Also factor in a MP with good armor on - more resists and defense than a MD Jedi - and this is a ranged profession.)
I am a MD myself, and I watch BH/Riflemen soloing Krayts all the time faster than myself and another Jedi could kill the same Krayt. I also watch the 'weak' ranged professions camping necrosis, as they have soloed him 10 times already that day. Even as a MD Jedi Soloing Necrosis is a quite a feat.
Once again proving Jedi are becoming one of the worest professions in the game after we gave a year of our life to become one.
Well that was a good try, but I would still love to see someone find something Jedi can do no one else can do?

No choice if we want to wear armour, no defences. Unless you take defender.
Special no, different yes!

I thought the village Force Sensitive teach you only force sensitive skills, in effect turning you into a powerful force sensitive and not a Jedi.
I'm not a Jedi yet but I've read what happens and you take Padawan trials from some shrine, still that's not Jedi training.
Proper Jedi training hasn't actually started yet for anyone, other than the people who were in the previous version of the FRS, people who think themselves Jedi at the moment are still just advanced Padawans, the Jedi equivilent of student ready to take his finals, which don't exist yet.
jedi was my target, the objective of playing was to one day un lock my jedi, they have changed the system on me a good few times in the 2 years ive playedand ive even left swg and then come back, jedi are special because like you say its a longer grind and for what you sometimes ask, our skills aren't that unique if you compare them to other professions but they still will never be jedi, they have not progressed as far as you in the game,
ask anyone what toon they would pick a normal profession with good armor weps and almost equal skills as a jedi, or a jedi ?
which do you think they will pick if they have half a brain.
jedi are special because they are the end game icon.
Sheer number of village grinders and the continued 500 plus dollar accounts people are gobbling up on Ebay say otherwise.
