Thread: Don't people realize that Ebay is ruining this game's economy?

When someone sells a million credits on ebay for 6 bucks, it drives the prices in swg-land through the roof.

This is simple math and I am not sure why the Dev's refuse to fix this.

If someone is getting 6 US dollars for every million swg credits, then the drive for the greedy is to make more credits through selling loot or higher vendor prices so they can thereby makemore cash.

Even if you are just getting credits to afford that rare item, the item is being sold so they can afford something else that eventually rolls down to the "ebay dealer" who is getting his real life cash for credits.

We all suffer in this when people get away with this crap.

The solution is real simple. The developers need to intervene first off and they haven't even addressed it.

One solution could be that they eliminate the ability to tip each other, and eliminate the option to do it through trade windows as well.

Only ones that should be getting cash are the vendors and those that do missions, but eliminate the ability to tip each other ingame.

It's gotten to the point where online companies are selling this stuff on ebay, not just the players, and this is no joke.

So you can no longer tip pay entertainers or doctors? You realize that would cripple the economy more then fix it? How am I able to sell any loot to someone who wants it? No easy fix on this one.

Oh yes there is, entertainers have the option to cover charge. You sell your rare loot to vendors that will turn around and sell it.

But in the end no one would have to pay high prices for anything because there would be no one profiting with real cash for millions of credits.

In the real world this practice would be a federal offense and its against SWG EULA.

It is what keeps many third world economies broken, their leaders always trying to keep up with their currency's poor exchange rate and their peasants get the shaft because of it.

Any profession can be given the same option as Entertainers have to "charge" for services, but are set at the same max.

wait till the first time you need money, you tryin to say you never got tipped in game? come on now? I tipped a pal just today who didnt have enough to get some house stuff. I didn't want to take the time to go buy the stuff myself which i would have to do in your idea, you can never fix that problem, it is a problem with almost every product. What we need to do is get rid of greed in the world, any ideas on that? lol

So we need to find someoen with a vendor everytime we want to sell? Also, cover charge may work for entertainers but what about Docs? You think the farmers wouldn't just do this to pool their money anyways? I have to agree with above poster that this is stupid on too many levels.

The only people that would oppose such a move are gonna be people who profit from the ebay, lets face it who wouldnt want cheaper prices onitems?

We'd get cheaper items if people weren't hiking their prices to get cash off ebay.

Not jsut Ebay form what i have heard and read WoW has become so bad that you have to buy in RL to even afford anything. This has been a topic on my server for a while.

This article came up. Pretty good read. And shows you just how deep the problem is.

Plenty of people realize it, but the buyers and the sellers don't care. Any economy where currency is created from thin air is bound to be flawed though.

People seem to think this is an unfixable problem, and either you don't want it fixed or you can't see beyond the short term.

If everyone was given the option to /covercharge then you have solved the problem with giving hand outs to your friend.

There is nothing saying you can't go out and buy the stuff your friends cant afford.

And after this change is implemented the prices would deflate so rapidly that even the newbs could buy stuff by just doing missions.
