Thread: What is the purpose of forced pvp?

This is a question out of honest curiosity. What doesforcedpvpaccomplish? What does it do other than dump gasoline into the hate fire between Jedi and Bounty hunters? There is no perma-death anymore. There are no factional TEF's. There is still xp loss, but what does it matter at the rate we can gain it back? Again stating the question, what purpose does this serve?
Well it gives the Bounty Hunters what many of them wanted before they even created their character on the Ahazi Server. Because it the Pinnacle of a Bounty Hunter's Abilities. To kill a final template Jedi and earn 500k to well over a mil in the old FRS. To take that away from them because they may happen to kill a low leveling Jedi everyonce in a while is not enough in my opinion. Jedi knew that Bounty Hunters could hunt them before they even unlocked Jedi. But once they get to the point where they actually have to face a Bounty Hunter that has their mission it's out of balance. In my opinion let the Bounty Hunters try and hunt Jedi. If a Jedi is not prepared and able to survive against a Bounty Hunter they should learn from it and move on. Then maybe next time a Bounty Hunter comes after that Jedi the Jedi will know how to beat them.

If you are talking about BH vs Jedi PvP well it's not forced. Jedi can stay of the terminals really easy. If they get on it accidently they can try to avoid combat but there really is no excuse for getting on the terms these days unless you are very reckless.

You said it all. It just adds fuel to the fire and generates an enormous amount of hate, contention, anomosity, turmoil, and last but not least division in our communities. This one game mechanic seems to bring out the worst in us all. We all seem to be un-packing our flame throwers and sparking them up to full ignite over this one thing. The devs really need to look into it, study it, and rethink it. They really need to determine if the way things are is really good for the game and community as a whole.

Wow, another one of those it's nearly impossible to stay off the terms. I've been a full template since post CU and it was always a matter of Luck. Random NPC spawns on planets is something you cannot control. Goodluck trying to enjoy the content of the game without getting on the terminals as well.
On the other hand, if you unlock Jedi you should assume the responsibilities of being one, if you don't like it... don't unlock. It's like buying a fancy, fast sportscar and then griping about the high insurance that you knew would come with it.

Funny when a BH has beat my Jedi or even I have beaten them we tend to Joke around and they tell me that I'm one of the nicest Jedi they have met lol. Sounds to me the anger is player driven and not the game mechanics. It's thematurity of the people involved that makes things a flame war not the BHbeing able toHunt the Jedi

LOL....no excuse huh? You mean when most of the games content has you fighting NPC's that get you on the terms? Mind you, I don't care about BH's coming after me...I really don't, but please drop this tired old "don't get on the terms" nonsense. You're right though, it's extremely easy to stay off the terminals...just sit in your characters house all day and don't do anything combat oriented.
When I was reading around trying to figure out if I wanted to buy this game or not, I was under the distinct impression that bounty hunters hunted Jedi and it was a system that was agreed to. If a player didn't want to PVP, he could (a) be something besides a Jedi or (b) use the additional character on the same server that was unlocked upon becoming a Jedi for the express purpose of being able to play the game without being "forced" into PVP(a luxury that, I might point out, is expressly denied to non-Jedi.) I know for a lot of people, the "forced" PVP aspect is the purpose of the game.

There is no forced PvP. If you choose to declare Special Forces or become a Jedi, that is consensual PvP. If you want a Jedi with no PvP, try KOTOR.

Who are these idiots who keep saying 'its easy to stay of the terminal' haha! Yeh of course it is if all you want to do all day is walk around. To take part in any content in this games means gaining visibility.
Of course you can avoid visibilty in that way but we all pay the same amount to have fun.
