Just got this newsletter today and this was on the opening page on the Droid Report:

"And finally, there are a couple people getting dangerously close to unlocking the mysterious Force Sensitive Slot. Look for a press announcement when that monumental achievement is reached for the first time."

Dangerously close? That is a poor choice of words. It implies that the developers don't want it to happen and are afraid of what impact the event will have on the game.

I think their choice of words were just for excitement and not connotating anything bad.

ackkk, a couple out of 300,000.

whew. we will not see Jedi for quite some time.

Its only really 150,000 cause everyone who joined in the last month or so has no chance.

Still I think there will be 1 or 2 jedi on every server within the next month.

If they didn't want it to happen why would they write about it in the newsletter effectively advertising the event.

They wrote that in the newsletter because they have repeatedly and publically stated that they would announce when the first FS slot was unlocked. I am merely speculating and commenting on their choice of words concerning the overall progress of the FS unlocking race. "Dangerously close" implies danger will be present when the targetted threshold is breached. Either they don't want it to happen and dread the inevitability of it happening, or the person that wrote those lines has a very poor writing education.

Which would you rather have? The SOE writers are poorly educated or SOE doesn't want the event to happen at this time?

Well it kinda makes me mad that they are saying people are dangerously close and no on knows who it is that is dangerously close. Are they saying that some of us are getting so 'dangerously' close that I could end up unlocking the slot? I don't think they really worded this right it kind of came as a shock to me. I also don't see that if any of these theories ppl post are true, **edit** is an architect/musician supposed to do to unlock the slot?

I have a few thoughts on "dangerously" .

I mean how is this *ever* supposed to work? OK, they are planning on keeping Jedi rare. Fine. There's two ways to achieve this goal. First one is to keep force sensitive people rare and the second one is to make the path to Jedi incredibly hard. Both waysare destined to fail.

The first one (keeping FS rare) is not going to work because people will figure out sooner or later that they *are* keeping it rare. Get it? There will be a few selectpeople who will be "camping" the FS slot (occupying it forever). It is only a matter of time until it becomes common knowledge that no FS-slots can be opened until those people leave. Is anyone going to be patient enough until they are "next in line" for an FS-slot? I doubt it...

The second one (keeping Jedi rare in making it incredibly hard to get there) is not going to work either. You basically have two play styles available once you unlock your FS-slot. One is playing your main character like you used to and the other one is playing your FS character which is subject to permadeath after 3 deaths. OK, what do they expect to happen? Do they really think that the majority of players with an FS-character is going to be like "Aw, crap. Died again. I've had it with this character. I'm just going to keep on playing my ordinary slob."? Bad idea.If that is what they are thinking they are seriously underestimating the stamina of online gamers and the "unwillingness" to revert to an "old and used toy". -Or are they planning onletting a few players advance towards Jedi and when too many people get close they will be struck by the "hands of God"? I don't even want to think about what happens when only the *suspicion* of dev interference arises...

Either way, we're looking at a mass exodus IMHO. Players are going to leave by the 1000s if it a) ...becomes obvious that they are keeping FS rare and not allowing anyone to unlock until others leave b) ...becomes obvious thatthey are trying to keepJedi rarethrough some sort of interference c) ...if people become frustrated by the fact that getting to Jedi is just way too hard and will be unwilling (as is to be expected) to go back to their old character.

Am I missing a 3rd possibility? How is this *ever* supposed to work?

Sounds like a XP counter to me..I mean come on how could they go threw 300,000 players and look at everyone..I bet theres some kind of counter that keeps points for things you do that you need to unlock the FSS

some of you dont read the quotes at all do you?

they have already stated that the main factor in keeping the fs slot will be that people will not want to change their playstyle, that they understand that the recipe will eventually be posted, that alot of people will get the fs slot but then the jedi slot will be rare because of perma death. they have also stated that they will not intervene and stop people from becoming fs just because people are getting it. tsk tsk, read a lil before you post.

as to you guys saying dangerously means anything other than them trying to get people excited about it, get real. it just means people are getting really really close. they should keep track of your negativity and permantly ban you from ever getting the fs slot.

Ya I would actually be like awww... I died time to start over. I can put up with that, for it's happened to me many times due to bugs and problems with CSR's already.
