Thread: Devs smarter than they appear....maybe

While sitting at my computer at work thinking deeply, I had a thought. The jedi ranks have gotten way out of hand. Whats the point of being uber when everyone else is too. Perhaps the devs have a hidden plan to the jedi nerfs and the powering up of normal profs.
Maybe I'm giving the devs too much credit here but here it goes. The devs realized that there are way too many jedi present, and decided something needed to be done. By the time they realize this the damage has been done, way too many jedi or those very close to becoming one. The devs came up with a plan to get the jedi population down without forcing people to give up jedi. First they nerfed the holy hell out of the prof, this is where the complaints start, but nothing is done about it. Next they further hurt the jedi ranks by making other profs more powerful in general this made jedi weaker without more nerfs to the prof.
The most recent effect of the devs plan for jedi is that of making the path towards the profession much longer than it was ever before(longer than the holo grinding days). At first they tried nerfing the whole xp system, when this was meet with an enormous up-roar from the entire community, they went with a more subtle approach, making just about every fs xp ratio 30:1, this meant millions of xp points for just 1 of the 6 required trees.
As I see it right now, we are at the mid-point of the plan. The jedi prof has been nerfed and other profs boosted to a point where it is almost un-desireable to pursue jedi. Add the fact that it takes countless hours of grinding just to fill up the fs trees makes it even less desirable. The affect of this combination means less jedi numbers over time.
So what is the goal of this plan? The goal is to, at first, widdle down the jedi population by making the path to it a very long one and by getting people to quit the prof. by nerfing it. Once that has been accomplished and only when it has been accomplished will the jedi prof start to gain more power and become what it once was. Everyone wants a quick fix to this situation and that is not going to happen. Expect to see the first jedi revamp in Febuary or March.
Thats my deep thoughts of the day, what does everyone else think?
Here's the problem: This will only work with about half the Jedi.
The other half didn't become a Jedi to be stronger than everyone else, they became one because...are you ready...This is Star Wars.
Say what you want about "star wars isnt about jedi", but if i wanted space battles, evil empires, rebellions, and "no match for a good blaster at your side" kind of thinking, theres Star Trek, Babylon 5, Firefly, etc etc etc etc. Lots of cool spacey sci-fi stuff on the market. I want a Lightsaber and the Force...so Star Wars it is. Many people want to be a Jedi just to be one, regardless of how weak they are or what their role is. Trust me, people will find a way...they will congregate in groups, stay far away from civilization, or hell, just get killed over and over until they BH's dont even attack anymore cause its waay too easy. Either way, you will find that no matter what the Devs do to Jedi, many, many of them will stick around just for the pure fun of being something they have dreamed about being since they were little kids (for some of them, not too long ago lol).
Me thinks....
The time line of the game should be moved to post NJO. LA / SOE can write what ever preface they want and have a SW game set in the future with lots of Jedi.
The GCW should transition to Light vs. Dark, or a Jedi vs Sith focused war.
You are giving SOE way too much credit. Nothing they have done over the last year inidcates that any real forthought is given to the game. SOE is just a bunch of fire fighters. The current state of Melee / Ranged Def supports this position.
SOE's decision to make the changes they made have nothing to do with long term viability of the game, and everything to do with extending the avg. life expectancy of an account. IE, more money for SOE.
Besides, if SOE really cared as much as you imply, then we would get fixes more than nerfs.
We can only hope that the re-introduction of the FRS, if ever, will make Jedi the alpha class again. My hope is that the FRS tree will add combat levels so that say a JK is like lvl 85 and a JM is like 87. This would make a great difference for Jedi in a combat lvl focused system.

Don't see how this is gonna work. I am just not logging my jedi until some things are fixxed, but I do play my alt. No reason to delete my jedi when I can just wait it out on another toon.

You overestimate their chances

Ok...think about this one. Maybe we arent 1.5x's stronger because we are all still just PADAWANS! Once the FRS comes into play we will be 1.5x's stronger. Right now consider yourself just another profession. Of course we are gettin our butts kicked, we are combat lvl 80 with all the other toons out there. Once FRS hits I'm thinkin they will up our lvl bar or even let us have more Hit points/force with higher levels.
Instead of moaning and groaning go out there and prepare yourselves to become the best jedi on the server. PvP, get CA's learn everything about your template and learn the best template that you can work with. Prepare yourself mortals...
