Thread: Big Change

Ok like many players I spend my day thinking about everything that is right and wrong with SWG and how to make it better. One thing I believe would make this game much more fun to play, and extend it's life is "Permanent Respect"

That is once your character has unlocked a skill you can get it back without having to re-grind the experience points. How I see this working is when you log in and select your character you have the option to change skills. If you wanted to change them again you would need to log out, and come back in.

This would allow Jedi to try out different templates without fear of grinding it just to learn they hate it. Also, if you got tired of playing your Jedi you could just log in as any other profession that you've unlocked with that character without having to loose your Jedi or re-grind.

I think this would take some of the focus off of grinding and put it back into actual game play.

Please let me know what you think. I thought the board could use something different then all the neg comments.

Well, there are 2 problems with this idea.

1. This would be abused beyond anything imaginable now

2. If people didn't have to focus on grinding all the time, they would realize how very little content there actually is in the game.

You mean that becouse I was once a master fencer I could log in as a fencer and then logout after a few hours and log in as a Jedi, with the skills I have now grinded? So in effect I could grind all skill possible in the game and log in as whatever template as I wanted to each time? Nice idea, but would quickly be abused...

Much beer I sense in you, drunk you have become...

I hit the reset button, nothing happened.... Must be NERFed...

Please explain how it would be abused? You are just switching your characters skills to something you have already grinded and unlocked?

I'm not saying your wrong, but I don't know what you mean by abused. Please give examples.

Thanks

it would work if the respec had to be done without dropping boxes...this is what happend before. people would grind, geta few boxes, trade them in 24 hours, grind drop boxes, collect points, trade again. One way you could respec and keep the game interesting is that you can respec a box you havent already ground out before. that means that you can grind, drop boxes, and then regrind and pick up different boxes....then....if you ever want to respec, you trade box for box that you might have had bbefore....will post this in a thread to see what people think....

Example of abuse:

Log in as a MBH

Take PC Jedi Bounty mission

Logout

Login as a full Temp Jedi

Kill Jedi

etc etc

Too many idiots IG now to hope no-one would abuse the system

nice to see something other than "Cancelling account" post tho

You constantly switch template to give yourself an edge.

Going out hunting, need a rezzer but can't find one on? No problem cause someone in your group was a doc/cm once! they can switch for the hunt.

Got to many wounds? Just switch to doctor for a second and your okay!

In a big battle and you need some ranged support? That's great cause you were once a pistoleer/rifler and can instantly change roles!

But uh oh, you needa take out some jedi. That's okay just switch your template to cm/tk and beat the snot out of those nasty jedis!

uh oh i need some pearls good thing i decided to grind defender. I'll just be defender for a few days, farm pearls and go back to my old template!

Oh look, a gank squad of bh. Time to switch back to cloak!

People would be switching their templates as fast as they could to suit the advantage and give them the edge over the other person. It's stupid because at any time i could be anything i wanted to be.

Don't know why my last post was blank, but yes you couldn't just unlock any box you wanted, by getting the xp back just saying once you've unlocked a box by grinding it you will always have that box available. I was not saying that you could re-use the xp to get free unlocks. ie if you grinded Master Rifleman you could not trade in those boxes and be a Master Pistoler. You would have to grind Master Pistoler, but once you did you would never have to re grind it.

Sorry if I was not clear before

would still be abused, mostly by older players who did the hologrind. Personally, Iwould have access to 5 jedi templates (i have too much time on my hands) and 26 regular Professions..

maybe your idea would work, if, for example, if you have allready mastered a profession, if you want to regrind to it, you would only need maybe 1/2 the xp for each box or 2/3 the xp, based on the fact you have been a master before.

still open to abuse tho

I see your point about people changeing their template for what they want and need, and that is exactly the point, to allow people to explore different aspects of the game. If your worried about the BH vs Jedi impact (which I think should be removed from this game) You could always put a limit such as one change per 24hr

What do you think about that?

Please only reply with serious comments

I think 24h would be far too short, IF they were to (hypothetically) introduce this game mechanic, it would HAVE to be at the very least once per 14 days, at least...

ideally it would have to be once a month or even less frequent.

could even implement a respec to any previous master prof with every veteran player milestone, 3months, 6months, etc etc

I still believe it would never happen, nor should it, but its fun to discuss these ideas rather than insta-flame em
