If the game is struggling they have only themselves to blame...
However, the Japanese market is dominated by well established MMORPG's that have no release outside their territories and so there may not have been much growth space for Star Wars there.
That said, I do feel discouraged by this news and it will be interesting to see if it is mentioned at all by LA/SOE.

Sorry but using Japan as a measuring stick compared to anything here is completely and totally inaccurate. So by the same token, since FFXI did gawd awful like it did here, but is insanely popular there, must mean something huh? Don't fool yourselves. Not saying they aren't doing poor here, but I also think that many servers total was pretty ambitious. Christ, Lineage II has less than half the servers here than SWG does, but yet its on of the most popular games in the world.
Settle down.
Settle down.

actually i agrre that we shouldnt use SWG Japan as a measuring stick. but it is dissapointing news. but what i do expect here in the future. is aserbver mergers to increase populations. To many servers look like ghost towns half the time and that is not a good impression to give new players

SWG Japan also was not SOE/LA
It was EA/LA
They are more being folded into the SOE system and EA is leaving the game. That is the big difference.
not really being shut down but brought into one house again.
The SOE in europe and americas and EA in japan and asia was stupid to begin with.

If you like Rome stuff there is a Rome MMORPG called Roma Victor that looks pretty cool. Beta is open if anyone wants to test it out. LOL read the combat system its funny as hell.I was considering trying that mmorpg as Ive heard good things about it. Im currently in beta for Dark and Light which is a unique mmorpg, only one giant server and the game world is the largest by far (several thousand square miles literally)
Was interested in this as well, but I'm hearing frmo several people the controls are terrible and the graphics are very dated. But til I try it myself I think I'll reserve judgement.

Sony and EA are two too large companies who have so much money they don't give the slightest rat's ass about the players who play the game.
Most of the games here in The Netherlands are from EA and most of them suck too. Sims 2, Battlefield 2, Black and White 2. You can play the game for a few days cause it's new and then it's boring as hell.
Smaller companies that made GTA and Call of Duty should make games like SWG, cause they know how to entertain.

FFXI is a horrible game. Its huge over there. Sorry but the Japanese aren't the benchmark for a great MMOFFXI has about 400k players, WoW has millions, Lineage 1 has millions, Lineage 2 has millions, so I'd hardly call FFXI a huge hit over there. And they have entire shows devoted to mmorpg. The closest we have is a video game channel that might dedicate 2 minutes to a review of one. They have cafes and bars with moniters and keyboards built into tables for game access. I dont see any of that in my local Hooters bar
Kowtow to them all you like, I've got nothing against Japan, but I'm really still not that impressed. they have a lot of things we don't but doesn't make them the benchmarks for any of it. The Japanese are just obsessed with technology. Everything there is big for 5 minutes and its done. Pfft, we have entire shows dedicated to goddamn stupid pet tricks.
And I would be willing to bet 99% of those 400k players are all in Japan.
And Lineage 2 is also 95% Korean players. You think they're going to give a crap if the 7 US servers shut down? Nope. Why because there are still millions playing there. Hell the first one didn't do s*** here, but it still had millions. of players. All Korean.
Not saying there aren't server merges in the future, but settle down chicken little, SWG isn't going anywhwere. I've heard this about every 4 months for 2 years.
