saber>powers atm
tell that to the BH who shows up expecting an MLS, and gets an Mpower instead. hehe
Powers should not be a complete alternative for lightsabers for one reason:
It doesn't cost additional time or money to be a powers user.
If you're MLS, you spend time and money getting pearls and crystals.
If you want Master Powers to have to find special "force power crystals" before they can use their abilities, and tie the damage to these crystals, and have them be random tuning stats and the crystals only rarely drop from high-level mobs, then I'll give you full support in making powers = saber.
But, until MPowers are spending 100m credits on their force lightning and have to ADK their hands, then I think Saber should have a definate advantage.

Are you kidding me???
So by your logic a TKM shouldn't be equal to any other profession because they don't have to use a weapon.
Just because a person can't afford an Uber Weapon doesn't mean that other professions should be weaker. You can't make Lightsabers the end all be of being a Jedi.
You want a player with the equivelant of a CDEF saber to be more powerful than a player with Master Powers.
So just because you can't afford the good loot, you want everyone else to be weaker than you.

Actually, thats not what I'm saying. I'm saying that Powers should not = Sabers because of that reason. TKM does not have the same damage output as a Master Rifleman. Furthermore, a TKM with a knuckler does more damage than an unarmed TKM because there is an additional investment.

The additional investment of what? Vibro motors? The best knucklers in game are looted either from the Katarn or NK-Necrosis to which both are looted items which require zero investment unless the player decides to purchase them from another player. In addition, I'd have to say that comparing TK to Powers is like comparing apples to oranges in because TK isn't suppose to be a viable option to anything but a form of melee combat.
I never said a player with a CDEF saber should be more powerful than a MPowers. I said a player with a CDEF saber should be more powerful than someone with CDEF powers (i.e. Novice).
As it stands today Master Powers is on par with Master Marksman in abilities and damage. 89 skill points invested into becoming being near equal to what a CL 25 player would be isn't what one would consider the a fair assessment of what a Jedi discipline should be. Also, it was stated many times by several developers on forums, at Fan Fests and even on Stratics that Force Powers was to be a viable (not equal but a comparable option) combat discipline when compared to Sabers. This was done to allow for more versatility (much like how all sabers are equal now unlike pre-CU) between Jedi templates.
And MPowers doesn't need, nor deserve, the same power as LS, because Powers includes cloak, that is a method of running away and avoiding damage, Lightsaber doesn't. Lightsaber is a pure combat/damage tree.
Powers and Sabers sit on the near the same builds to which one was to specialize in range where the other was to be melee specialization. Out of all the moves between the two there is only 2 distinct differences to which are a far cry from justifying the stanch reactions of MLS's to proclaim that Powers is anything but a damage discipline. When compared:
- Force KD (Saber Throw)
- Force Choke (Saber Slash)
- Force Throw (Saber Swipe)
- Mind Blast (Stunning Strike when used after Throw has landed)
- Force Weaken (Armor Break though weaken needs the AB added to it)
- Force Lightning (Power Attack)
- Area Force Lightning (Dervish / Spin attack)
- Strike / Hit (Saber hit, strike)
Slow down, read my post, and think.
I'm not saying MPowers should be worthless, it should have its own uses and playstyle (its support btw), and not attempt to be an equal to Lightsaber. If it was, then there would be no lightsaberists, because MPower does not require the large monetary (or time if you hunt yourself) investment and would have all that is in Lightsaber (and do it at range) while providing other benefits.
Your basic analysis much like most other MLS's mindset is that Powers should never be even be near as viable as Sabers because we didn't "pay our dues" in parts and components. Well ride SOE/LA's ass and tell them to make us an amulet or allow damage modifiers to be added from our saber damage and all Powers Jedi would be more than happy to comply. Honestly why do people cry so much about paying for crap? Even before the CU I had a great saber with 3 49 / -9 and a 48 / -9 to which I received these pearls from doing krayt hunts with guildmates. The resources cost me next to nothing since I pulled them myself so once again I fail to see how any pre-CU Jedi hasn't already "paid dues" when it comes to this profession. Additionally, I see so many MLS cry and complain about this but they too bear a guild tag. What in the world do you do with your guild? Start Krayt hunts, go farming for crystals, do stuff but don't come here and whine that you forked out 20 million+ just because you can't stand to hunt in a group.

People only spend the credits because #1 They dont want to work for it because either #2 their lazy or #3 want instant gratification. Its a problem more people face everyday ingame and in RL. I say that anyone can go out and get pearls for free and have fun doing it, and specially in thie unbalanced sytem.
I don't disagree with you though it is a good point that is probably overlooked. Maybe one day they will change that....or maybe FRS will implement quests and contentfor crystals and such....mystical artifacts that grant healing powers or force powers.......interesting! Anyone else??
hmm i bought mine how does that make me lazy? i spent time grinding and making armor(which i liked) so i worked for my money and it isnt lazy to spend it.
