I've been an avid player of SWG for nearly two years now. i am just an average player. I'm not a jedi, I'm not even force sensitive. I play a BH in one character, not to hunt jedi but to kill the NPC marks. I enjoy the solitude that BH affords me. My other character is a master merchant/tailor; I wanted you to know this so that you understand I have no vested interest in seeing anything bad happen to any profession in this game. I don't call for "nerfing" and I don't indulge in fruitless arguments that only end with bitter feelings on both sides.
I do, however, want to share the perspective of one who has played this game for a long while. I have played many roles and found most of the professions I have played affected negatively by a small but vocal portion of the jedi community.
Many of the changes that have taken place in your profession can, I believe, be placed directly on the threshold of those who think only of themselves and are willing to walk over anyone who gets in their way to acquire the best, the biggest, the most powerful or expensive items in the game. It is a small but (excuse the pun) extremely visible portion of your community that bears the lion's share of the responsibility for what has happened to your class.
Prior to the combat upgrade, my friends and I would spend hours in the Krayt Dragon Graveyard. We hoped to loot a few tissues to improve our weapons. We would spend forty-five minutes chipping away at a dragon, watching our armor decay, enjoying the challenge when a jedi would appear at our side and begin thwacking at the dragon, easily outdamaging us and taking the loot for his own. When asked why he would do such a thing, the response was usually something to the effect of, "you don't own the spawn, anyone can kill it, get over it." The jedi would zip off to do the same to another group of players leaving us feel like any attempt to improve our own characters was a practice in futility. Indeed, this was not an isolated incidient but happened nearly everytime we ventured out to hunt dragons. The funny thing is, we didn't care about the pearls. We would gladly have shared them if we could have continued to kill the dragon for the experience and the possibility of looting some tissues.
We finally gave up on the graveyard and ventured to the geo caves. For a while, it was nice. We were able to explore the caves, get some good experience and had the possiblity of some loot. Once again, however, the honeymoon ended all to quickly when the Geo caves suddenly became the new favorite jedi haunt. They would sweep through, clean everything out, outdamage us as we took refuge in a small corner and generally, once again, rob us of our enjoyment of the game.
The only refuge we could find was the corvette because it was instanced and we didn't have to worry about kill-stealers appearing on the horizon and taking what we had worked so hard to gain.
I don't believe there is a profession in the game that wasn't negatively affected by the few who took the powers of the jedi and used them to destroy the game-play of others.
Over time, I have watched as the powers of the jedi have slowly been chipped away. I feel bad because jedi had such potential in the beginning. An order of individuals who would remain hidden from the general population, hunt in seclusion and perhaps appear at your side when least expected to offer a helping hand. Like I said, it had potential. The reality was far uglier and less enjoyable than anyone could have expected. I think even SOE was taken aback by the negative impact Jedi had on the game.
If everyone were to just step back and examine their treatment of others -Consider that perhaps the needs of others might be more important at this moment than one's own desires and treat the general population of players with more respect, things could change for the better. It may be time to stop trying to outplay every other individual on the server. If the community as a whole worked together to change the image of the jedi, I believethe nerfing could stop. Some powers might even be restored to your class.
IMHO, the road is a long one. Jedi are not respected as a class and it is generally thought there are far too many of them. It would be nice to know you are out there but not see you around every corner flashing your sabers and dueling your fellows. A bit of peer pressure and self-control can go a long way to garnering the respect it is obvious a majority of you want. It is the small minority who, I am hoping, will realize thewhat they have done and work to repair the damage they have inflicted on the community as a whole.

Yep,
not enough people realise, or demonstrate, that there IS more to the game than Uber pwnage. All the classes and professions have their place, admittidly, some could be improved and given more scope, but there's plenty of threads already about good ideas for improving other classes. I know, and totally understand, that roleplay isnt everyone's cup of tea. In fact I'd say that very few players in any mmorpg's actually roleplay their character, but, as long as the interaction with other players is fun, be it in a hunting party, cantina, while doing quests, or just passing someone by on your way somewhere, a little bit of consideration, good manners, and awarenes of others, goes a long, long way.

yup i also remember the days in the squill caves a jedi would just sweep in and kill everything, i moved to the sennex caves and the same happened there all too often as well.
selfish and ignorant people did ruin this for us, i never have dueled in a starport, never showed my weapon to a noob or done anything non jedi, i do help the new players gain some xp and act as their tank or healer for them while they grind away.
jedi is a honor and a priviledge, not to be abused or paraded like a new toy.
i will continue to help the players that need me, and continue to be the type of player that is worth of a robe, but we are few, many just want to show off
sadly this can be ruined by being attacked, if im fighting a bh i cannot defend the noob from the mob, so we all die..
id love a truce between our professions, i have just said in the bh forum, the bh are as much content for us as we are for them, if 1 becomes too powerful then the other goes away.. we need to work together with a common goal, then once we are balanced again we all can enjoy some damn good fights
Sadly this all correct, however the biggest mistake was the old FRS system. Anytime you take an Alpha class and have them set up to gain xp by hunting those who aren't this is gonna happen. The players are at fault, but I also blame SOE for,
1. Including Jedi in the GCW as they were never intended to be
2. Not giving Jedi content, much like the BH loot quests now, that would give jedi something to do other than stand around playing with one another.
3. Basing a leveling system off of the deaths of other players.
Though I have never had a personal experience, I witnessed many such insidents time and again long before I become jedi myself, but you know its not the jedi class fault that some people use their "priviledge powers" to force their will upon others and thus ruin their gameplay. There is of course the other side of the coin when jedi would help any way they could anyone in need of assistance, either in the form of combat or sharing some wisdom and some friendly advise. Its natural that most of our fellow players would want to become jedi , including myself.......my sole purpose in this game was to play as jedi from the very first minute i logged to the server I'm playing....is that a crime? SOEs mistake IMHO is only the timeline of the game as there are no jedi left exept Yoda....Luke isnt a jedi yet and that has a negative impact which causes a chain ofnerfs, changes etcand many many problems with Lucas Arts I believe. There are countless reasons why each of doesnt enjoy SWG as s/he would like to. The best choise in case something happend to you or any other playerlike someone else is ruining your gameplay is to report him for abuse.
Nice post btw ![]()

I agree as a jedi that is ok in pve and pvp. Never try kill stealing personally unless its to get myself out of trouble Thats the way it should be.
