Thread: Open Letter to Jedi
this is my first post onthe Jedi Board even ifI wasI think the first oneof the server to unlock,I always keep myself far away from this kids gang forum.
But for the first timeI can read something who definitively proves that still something could be done with intelligent people.
Ihope to find other post like this one in a near future.
While theese individuals consists of less than 5% of the Jedi population, they still dictate the reputation of the entire community; thousands of Jedi who already try their best to stay out of sight. They dictate the population simply becouse they are seen, while they majority is not. Do you honestly believe that the few campers you see daily are all Jedi on your server?
The Visibility system do not care if you are seen by 20 players and 4 stormtroopers right outside Theed Starport, or if you defeat 4 marouders that just attacked you on Endor.
Once on the terminal it takes 3 weeks to go "hidden" again, and no player want to keep out of the game for 3 weeks just becouse they defended themselves against 4 marouders.
Once on the terminal, you are in constant danger and need to be prepared 24/7. This means, Lightsaber in hand and force-macros running. At least Enhancers will shine like a christmastree, just to keep safe from sudden attacks.
The tiny Jedi population you see likes to be hunted. They gain from behaving like they do, directly feeding upon the majority's reputation like vampires. Theese players wont change unless SoE change the Visibility system to FOCUS on punishing thoose who have nothing against proving their might in the middle of Theed. A Visibility system that stop an endless supply of Fame & Glory to thoose who truly want to "show off". A Visibility system that rewards thoose players who play their Jedi like a refugee and keep themselves out of sight in respect for other players and in respect of the nature of their profession(exiles & refugees). A Visibility system that do not work against it's own purpose.
It's a shame that a few give a reputation to the majority, and are free to continue to do so. Theese few will do little more than spit on your letter, they play this game to pwn j00 at any time becouse you suXXor at pvpand they areUBER.
Therest of us already follow and agree to your suggestions already, and have done sosince the day we unlocked. Many of us picked up Jedi for roleplaying the religion, not to be powerful in pvp.

The blame is with a certain type of player... not with jedi itself. We don't like this type of person any better than the non-jedi do, as its been the reason of our bad reputation that far too many jedi get even if they aren't like this certain type of player.
You can never truely remove this certain type of player, new ones only replace the old.
I agree with the context of your post, just your blame i feel is pointed in the wrong direction.
I'm getting tired of the "jedi ruined SWG" line. No matter where you go, no matter who you are around there's always gonna be a jerk in the crowd. It's not class specific. Claiming it is is just plain ignorant and offensive. No different than claiming people of one skin color are criminals and another aren't.
Yes I've had jedi come along and KS krayts from my group. I've also had riflemen do the exact same thing. People just remember jedi better because of the neon signs they wave around. The major reason jedi have a negative image is the horrible implementation of the initial FRS where jedi gained FRS exp from overt players. The blame for that decision rests completely on the dev's shoulders.
Jedi as a whole have been nerfed for one reason and one reason alone. Population increase. When you have 4 jedi on a server with a population of 5000 they can be godlike, as they were when the game was new. When you have 2000 on a server of 5000 they're gonna be average, as they are now. It's simple math and balance.
Don't get me wrong I'm not excusing the behavior of selfish immature players. I am however trying to get you to recognize that it's the player not the character that is responsible. Posts about player conduct as a wholedon't belong in a forum dedicated to a specific profession.
The problem with the post is that the OP focuses on he jedi profession and not on the people who played it. I have encountered many players of all different professions in the game that have acted very badly toward other players.
The problem has been that the players have acted badly, not jedi. The jedi profession did not ruin the game; players acting badly did.
