Permadeath = A jedi died I think it was 3 times then the character can no longer be rezzed and they would need to start a new toon.
Saber TEF = If a Jedi has a saber out in front of any Players all the players that can see the saber regardless of fraction can attack the jedi. I actually was in a mob that ganked a Jedi in Theed when he pulled out his saber on a dare. (It took a mob to kill them back then too)

Speak of the forbidden word you do , stone you will be by many. Hide you must.
Permadeath is long forgotten. It was removed because the first jedi where not mature enough to take on the role of a jedi
If I remember correctly , please someone correct me if I'm wrong, the original jedi system opened up your FS slot < extra character slot>. That slot was your jedi character. Just like any other new Character you recieved 3 free deaths. after the 3rd death you where in danger of permanently dieing. Not positive if you could create a new jedi or if you became a blue glowie. so long ago my old mind forgets many things.
but never ever again speak of permadeath. very bad things will happen to you by the jedi community.

so, with permadeath did you have to hologrind again? or just make another char and re-grind your temp?

you just make a new FS toon and regrind the only jedi template. back then all jedi had the same template.

Samn, I would be very ahppy to give you a history lesson! I was feeling a bit nostalgic tonight.
PermaDeath:
PermaDeath refers to the original jedi (which I was one yay me!) IN swg. We were born into the world with nothing but 1 jedi box (the novice box). And with this new jedi you were only allowed to die 3 times, before your jedi was toast, ded, never to be seen again. You kept your jedi slot but lost all possessions and all skills and even the toon, had to make a all new character.
TEF
To make things interesting, every single time we used a saber or force power we got a tef, that allowed any unalignedplayerto attack us.
The saber TEF was eventually removed due to griefing. The first modification to the permadeathsystem was the 3 death per week rule where you lost a random skill box as opposed to losing the character if u died 3 tiems in any continuos 7 days. Finally they decided on the experience debt we now have.
Hope that helps ya!

wow 7 replies before mine got posted, lol. Well tehre you go Samn, and I would like those old days back too, the game was much more interesting preCURB anyway (we actually had story arcs that were fun and based on the GCW and battlefields where PvP or PvE occurred, miss those Battlefields never did know why they shot them down).

You kept the character, you just lost all skills and items, and you started back at Jedi Initiate. The original reason it was dropped was because eventually one you got high enough people wouldn't play thier characters due to fear of complete and total loss. It wasn't real cool to go LD while out hunting only to log back in and have to start completely over again.
TEF

Every Jedi Initiate started out Rebel, you coulnd't change faction until you reached the choice of going Light Jedi apprentice , or Dark Jedi Apprentice. This of course was about 10 mil jedi xp into your template, at a max of around 500 xp per kill. So anytime you were out grinding any and all Imperials were able to attack you whenever they wanted. Jedi were extremly easy to kill until they reached the Apprentice box.
The saber TEF was eventually removed due to griefing. The first modification to the permadeathsystem was the 3 death per week rule where you lost a random skill box as opposed to losing the character if u died 3 tiems in any continuos 7 days. Finally they decided on the experience debt we now have.

I had an idea long ago to bring back a semi permadeath but it was pushed deep into the sarlacc pit. I prob. posted it on the wrong board. But to sum it up in a few sentences , jedi dies he becomes blue glowie for 2 weeks. Only able to talk to other jedi. In doing this removal off xp loss. But that was back when I gave a damn about this game

eX are you certain you didn't need to make a new toon? i lost my first jedi in permadeth days, lost 120k credits, 3 crystals, a lightsaber, the complete outfit and had to make a new character ( I was more upset about lsoing teh crystals as it was tough then to get good quality crystals, at least for me). At least that is what I remember. Of course maybe I was just naked and no possessions but had teh same "skin" of a toon. Totally forgot the part that you were rebel at novice, lol. I hated that being imperial with T'lk.
