eX are you certain you didn't need to make a new toon? i lost my first jedi in permadeth days, lost 120k credits, 3 crystals, a lightsaber, the complete outfit and had to make a new character ( I was more upset about lsoing teh crystals as it was tough then to get good quality crystals, at least for me). At least that is what I remember. Of course maybe I was just naked and no possessions but had teh same "skin" of a toon. Totally forgot the part that you were rebel at novice, lol. I hated that being imperial with T'lk.

yeah... I made a couple toons to throw away till I made my last one and got serious.. you had to manually delete the toon if you wanted to make a complete new one.. you would lose all your items no matter what... so people started putting premade sabers in Driods or Vendor terminals so that they wouldn't lose thier sabers when they died.. this was also the way you were able to slice Lightsabers via driod trade.

Your toon would still be there with the same name if you died three times so you would just get your driod back from your alt (or whomever you traded it to) and still have your old lightsaber.

Opened my Jedi slot Dec 03 .... unfortunatley right after they fixed getting Jedi xp from grinding saber crystals

Samn, I would be very ahppy to give you a history lesson! I was feeling a bit nostalgic tonight.

PermaDeath:

PermaDeath refers to the original jedi (which I was one yay me!) IN swg. We were born into the world with nothing but 1 jedi box (the novice box). And with this new jedi you were only allowed to die 3 times, before your jedi was toast, ded, never to be seen again. You kept your jedi slot but lost all possessions and all skills and even the toon, had to make a all new character.

You kept the character, you just lost all skills and items, and you started back at Jedi Initiate. The original reason it was dropped was because eventually one you got high enough people wouldn't play thier characters due to fear of complete and total loss. It wasn't real cool to go LD while out hunting only to log back in and have to start completely over again.

The very first jedi had to remake their characters entirely. This was later changed to stripping the character of everything but their name and the jedi initiate box. You were allowed a total of three deaths as an initiate, one more at knight level, and another at master. (You gained another "life" at those milestones. No one could get the master box, apprenticeship xp for jedi was bugged.)

PvP wasn't much of an option when you consider it took about six months to finish the grind. (Heh, six months to grind, six minutes to watch it circle the drain...)

TEF

To make things interesting, every single time we used a saber or force power we got a tef, that allowed any unalignedplayerto attack us.

Every Jedi Initiate started out Rebel, you coulnd't change faction until you reached the choice of going Light Jedi apprentice , or Dark Jedi Apprentice. This of course was about 10 mil jedi xp into your template, at a max of around 500 xp per kill. So anytime you were out grinding any and all Imperials were able to attack you whenever they wanted. Jedi were extremly easy to kill until they reached the Apprentice box.

If they tried to fight at that level, yes they were easy to kill. However, the ability to wear armor and basic skills gotten early on gave the alert players enough of a margin to stay out of harm's way.

The saber TEF was eventually removed due to griefing. The first modification to the permadeathsystem was the 3 death per week rule where you lost a random skill box as opposed to losing the character if u died 3 tiems in any continuos 7 days. Finally they decided on the experience debt we now have.

The original saber tef didn't didn't get applied unless you used a saber special or a force power. Simply lighting up the saber didn't do it. The end result of saber tef was large groups of players running through the wilderness looking for jedi with tefs rather than preventing public saber displays. That pretty much never happened.

The wayskill lossworked is if you accumulated more than three deaths in one week's time, the death(s) in excess of three would become "tracked deaths" and would never decay with the passage of time. If you collected three tracked deaths you lost your highest skill box, which one was randomly determined if all were at the same level. Non-tracked deaths decayed in a week's time.

Hope that helps ya!
