Thread: What does Playing Jedi Mean to You?

I thought I would put this post up in the hopes that many Jedi Players would post their thoughts on what Jedi represents to you from an ingame perspective. Maybe, just maybe, the Developers will read this and see what it means to a large percentage of the player base at large.

For me, I bought SWG to be a Jedi. I actually am old enough to have seen Ep. 4 on the big screen during its first release and was so amazed by it. To me, it was my Generation's Wizard of Oz. And man when the Lightsaber comes out for the first time and later when Obi-Wan slices through that thug's arm in Eisley I still remember the dilation of my pupils and the unbelief and what I just saw.

Of course, I did not expect that same sensation in the game. Or to be some cooky player that lords combat skills over others. But I was so taken by the unlock process Prepub 9. That sense of accomplishment. The message and the email. The Jedi screen to select our new character. The first time you build a lightsaber. The first time you wield it. That was the magic for me. The notion of being different.

I stayed on the BH terminals the entire time of my grind. The feeling of being hunted was exhilerating. Death around every corner, etc. Of course, this is before the TEF changes and everything else.

And making Knight was a real achievement in my book. And given my leadership in a large Imp guild on Flurry, it helped me cheer on those who were grinding so hard to get that same feeling.

All I wantis the freedom to select a template that works in PvP and PvE and to feel as though I am in command of some really spectacular abilities to match the expenditure of time to get to Knight. Edge or not in combat, I want to maintain that feeling that there is something very very special to all Jedi, Light or Dark.

How about you? Love to hear what you all think.

beeing able to help everyone everytime without restrictions

(like there WAS no resists to lightsaber dam.....)

(healing without carrying stims around)

(compensate my lack of PvP abilities with a "better" fighting class, having the chance to survive maybe even win)

I'm a Guild Leader like you, so my reasons are simular when it comes to the group aspect of being jedi...

But the main reasonI wanted to be a jedi, was to have access tothose skills, most didn't have, like avoid incap, or animal attack (about to be nerfed), the ability to run faster than a swoop, massive healing potential, ability to block incoming shots.... the list goes on.

The unique skills that make jedi, jedi... but still be a viable combat template, without any major weakness's which i couldn't overcome with time and skill put into using my template well.

I dont want to be godlike, powerful in my own right, but unbalancing no... but i dont want to be at the same level as someone who isn't a jedi, and hasn't spent anywere as near the same time i have to get to what i had acheived.

I have worries about the CU sure, they are completely changing the game as we know it, tactics and play style looks like it will have to change quite alot to work, not a bad thing, but not sure yet if its actually a good thing for the game, only time will tell.

do kewl flashly tricks at starports

can write my sentenaces withotu any spelling or/and grammer with linespaces

get to laugh at people who arent jedi, course i can im jedi

dont have to deal with ranged weapons at all

means a long grind to get there which i dont mind cos there is no content really worth getting to, themeparks pfft

when i kill basic professions like rifleman and carbineer i get to show how special i am

means no armor to deal with - even the LS Psgs are working correctly for me as not working for the basics (meaning non-jedi)

people do what i say cos im jedi and there not, guess they think im special or some kind of chosen one,

when i first started playing swg i thought jedi were to be a source of inspiration to your faction light or dark...

i never could have imagined the hatred towards jedi by practically the entire community. Either by jealousy or unlrealistic self-imagined unfairness other classes have towards thinking they should be able to kill a jedi

I can relate to many of your feelings regarding jedi. Although im too young to have seem EPIV when it came out ('only' 23) i am old enough that some of the first toys i was bought as a child were Star Wars related *cries for his original trilogy falcon that would be worth a stupid amount now* and i can remember when the films used to actually be shown on TV

As far as this game goes, i bought the game with the goal of becoming a jedi. By the time of european release player jedi was a fact and the community was just waiting for the first one to appear. When i finally unlocked myself it was the greatest sense of achievement i have ever felt in a game, surpassing collecting all coins on Mario64, finishing 00 Agent on Golden eye... everything. I finally had the chance to roleplay the kind of jedi i wanted to be, to live the life of the greatest warriors shown on the big screen.

Pre-9 was without a doubt the greatest era for jedi. Many complained about the kinetic sabers, the decay, not having defence... but we were powerful at high levels and many of the other features of jedi made far more sense from a roleplay aspect than the current shamble of a system. I mean who ever heard of a jedi master with 0 skills in meditating? or one who couldnt use the force the enhance their reaction speed?....

All i want out of jedi is the chance to once again play a jedi as feel they should be. PvP is not and has never been my main concern, but if i am forced to fight other players (which we are) then being a jedi, i should have the neccessary abilities and powers to handle myself as a jedi of my rank and alignment would.

As much as it saddens me, KoToR is a far better reflection of jedi than SWG. And i dont mean because jedi can kill 20 guys in a blink.. i mean the truth of jedi, the light/dark relationship and the various powers and repercussions for using them. I truth i cant see jedi ever moving to a greater reflection of what jedi should be (imho) as long as we are forced to fight normal professions seeing as it would be very hard to give us all the skills we should have without us being very powerful.

Wow. So so true. Indeed I rank KOTOR as being close to SW Movie Jedi. Our present config, and Lord help us the one coming down the pike from what we know currently, are about as far from Jedi as it gets. With every revamp we get farther from the concept.

100% agree...A couple of days ago, I was in front of the Cornet Starport looking for a buff. I found a rebel bothan giving out buffs (im rebel too), so I stroll up to him or her, cant really tell with bothans, and I ask how much for a buff. The little troll tells me, "for a JEDI it will be 100k." I just walked away after the troll confirmed it was not kidding with me. Rebels like this make me want to turn towards the Dark Side of the Force.

I too saw 4 on the big screen, I was 7. Ishoveled so much pig crap, I stopped eating pork to cut down on the amount of crap I would haveto shovel.Every quarter I made, $.25 per hour, went to the movie fund. I worked all day, about 10 hours, just to go see the movie that night. I remember doing that alot. I think my mom liked seeing me so happy, she eventually asked my grandpa to start taking me.

.

I started watching a friend play SWG at his house. I made fun of him alot, being a role playing game geek and all. Then it hit me, he spotted me $50 and i got the game. I was hooked instantly. I was playing a dream I've had since i was 7 years old.

.

Then i got laid off from my job. I was playing 14+ hours a day. My wife thought I was busy looking for a job on the internet, yea right. Did that for about 5 months.

.

Then I got a job doing 50% travel. I don't stay in hotels without high speed internet. The company I work for now gave me a laptop that i usewhen i travel.

.

I recently achieved Jedi Padwan, holy crap is this fun! Got hunted twice and killed. The first guy poped up out of this bush and finished what the Borgel Life Sappers started. Scared the crap out of me. The other guy came into what I thought was a private house and hit me while I was in the bathroom. I pee in a mountian dew bottle from now on.

.

Both of my kids have accounts and play too. It's a cool way to stay connected to them when I travel. I don't like some of the changes that are comming, but I won't stop playing. It keeps me connected to some of the best times i had as a kid and keeps my kids connected to me. I have embraced the title of geek, and wear it proudly.

.

Thats my story, I had fun telling it.

For me, I saw Episode IV at a very young age, and I too was mesmerised by the idea of the Jedi. To me playing as a Jedi should be about playing to help your friends and guildies, not necessarily in taking part in PvP, shouldn't we be hidden, not blatantly visible (overt).

It means I get to be a bada$$.

It means I have some new content I didn't have before.

It means I get cool new special effects that impress newbs and everyone else who do not see the jedi effects on a daily basis.

It means I can heal my mind. Oh how that rocks.

I get to heal states, poisons, BF, wounds, fire, diseases, etc without relying on a doc to do it.
