I'm far from having finished my template yet but the reason I wanted to be a jedi was honestly to be stronger, faster and more powerfull than others so that I could never have to demonstrate all this, also protecting the weaks and make justice stands. Of course if I were a dark jedi I would do the exact opposit I just want to stay true to Star Wars and being a real jedi that only use the force to defend himself/herself... Never to attack. Well except in PvE as I also wanted to be a jedi to solo everything and fast Tough break since publish 9 on this one !

Apparently it means more to me than to all of those willing to bastardize the title by using fightclubs

One should not be envious of someone who has prospered by unjust deeds. Nor should he disdain someone who has fallen while adhering to the path of righteousness.

I was born in 1979 and wish I could have seen episode IV in its first viewing. But in essence I did. My mom loved the movies and had them on VHS before I could talk. Star Wars was the first movie I can remember ever seeing because everytime I got sick, was a sickly kid too, my mother would turn on the movie and watch with me so that it would take my mind off of what was bothering me. The recent Star Wars movies coming out today still bring out in me the greatest exhileration and wonder I have ever experienced in a movie.

Jedi are the central wonder for most people who love Star Wars, without a doubt. Even though some people disliked episode I, they all still loved the saber fights with Darth Maul in them. The jedi characters in the movies are such that they have the abilities to fight overwhelming odds and have a chance to win. The only reason they are powerful is because there are evil people who are powerful, you have to rise to challenge them for the good of the galaxy. It is like Jedi are only powerful because they train to take down a very powerful foe, otherwise they begin to lose power as Obiwan did on tatooine. Yes jedi should be powerful, but only if they use the power they gained to do great deeds. Dark or Light.

What most people forget about being a Light Jedi is that you should be continually challenged by evil or the dark side. I don't mean evil as we see it in the game, which takes the form of "The Empire is doing these things that will be horrible for the galaxy. Go kill/rescue these small groups of guys and bring back some important items." Galaxies should be about getting you involved in something that becomes greater and filled with ever more peril. You get this some, but not much. The Death Watch Bunker is the closest I have ever had to feeling this. I love those types of High level content that really give you that sense of peril.

That is what I expected playing my jedi to be like. I bought the game to experience the genre that I love and eventually become a jedi. I thought that Jedi would be looked to for help to take down big bosses and hard missions like the DWB. Not that is should be impossible with 4 normal characters, just a bit easier with a jedi. And maybe a little bit more to the quest that can take others on Jedi only parts of a dungeon. Hell, I would accept having to complete a certain number of very high and difficult quests a month to maintain near the power that jedi have in the movies.

I was amazed at how many people hated jedi, though in retrospect it was not suprising at all. People who do not have the will and discipline to complete something that is long and arduous will always be somewhat jealous of those that can. Not that this is why all the people who dislike jedi, but emotions affect people. Emotions are transmitable. It was like people would constantly be relating that "Its not so hard to spend 4 months of your life grinding for a jedi. I could do that too. I just don't choose to because it seems silly and I am comfortable with my character, so I will not work for something greater. Therefore, if it is so easy to get a jedi (Because I could), jedi should be no more powerful than my character." It almost makes sense. But if you put it in an everyday context, say pay and college, "Why should he get paid more than me? We both graduated high school. I could have gotten my masters just as easily as him. Why should he get paid more than me?"

This is what I expected out of being a jedi. The equation that meant "Sacrifice equals Power". Not godlike power, just the power to make a difference. The power defend myself and others against odds that others could not help but succumb to. During pre patch 9 times I heard that a jedi master could be defeated by 20 non jedi masters, I thought this was a bit much because everyone could get to that point. The FRS fixed that because only a select few could be that powerful. The rest of us, I would say, expected to be about 3-4 times a normal character's power, both fully templated. Hell, 3 times as powerful would be the magic number for me. Not 1.5 though.

In my eyes 1.5 cant' get away from 5 BH's. 1.5 would be able to get away from 3 (maybe) BH's or be dead even versus, well 1 good pvp'er and one novice. Hardly justifies the 8 months, 4 hologrinding and 4 jedi grinding, I put into my jedi versus the month it took me to master my main's "perfect template" and most of the gear required. In my eyes 3 times means that you could get away from 5 BH's and stand toe to toe with 3 of them.

But this is not about the CU, it is about what playing a jedi meant to me. Of course I bought into the Jedi content. Man am I disapointed. I quit the game for 4 months after I played my jedi one month in the current system. I realized that there was not much more than just more grinding so that I could run from a stacker when fully templated, and there was no jedi missions or content because the FRS is a joke.

I was happy that we got a chance to have different templates after patch 9, but then they all sucked and we were still needed to have 1-2 templates to compete with other FRS jedi.

On the other hand I understand why BH's want to be able to solo jedi. That is perfectly natural, but I think it is a stretch when you take into account the vast difference in time spent on developing the seperate characters.

Anyways I am rambling and trying to avoid studying.

In short, jedi is not what I was told by SOE it would be and I feel let down by them. I Spent far too much time on a character that cannot beat a stacker. The jedi content I wanted so badly does not exist, despite how SOE told us it would be there. SOE made it so that being a jedi meant months of isolation from everyone, including those who would never tell on you or give you visability. SOE gave me so many reasons for me to think I would enjoy playing a jedi. Only to realize that of all the things that SOE promised, the only real thing they delivered was the ability to play a jedi, the rest was never implemented or poorly implemented.

I'm still here. But I am also still waiting.

Account Canceled and expires 5/25/05 because of EQ2 CU and all around incipid customer service.
I will never buy another SOE, or SOE affiliate, product again.

Self-sufficient pvp. I was a pikeman/rifleman/4440fencer pre-pub10, I got 5 free lines there so I decided, hey, I'll go for it. If jedi sucks for pvp, I won't be playing mine.

For me having been around close to launch, it is an accomplishment. Some view it as a mindless grind that has been made too easy now, but I've done just about everything and from a RP perspective it seemed like a nice ending for Raf's career.

In terms of what it "means" to me, I won't lie and say that it makes me feel special. I got more respect and reverance as a swordsman back when everyone was a TKM, now it seems that I have adopted the most scorned class in the game. But tbh now it represents a challenge, the continuous sapping of our powers will make the strongest shine and when it is finally done I'd like to be one of the people who "still kicked butt even as a Jedi".

So the answer would be: It's a challenge. I missed the hardcore aspects of the old solo hunting Jedi (hell I remember being in a raid with 4 other guys chasing one for an hour). But even without having the fun of the hunt that the old Jedi did, I can try to make a gimped profession work for me just like the challenge of being a Swordsman was a year and some change ago.
