Thread: They are weakening Jedi Padawans (that's us folks all of us) to make way for the FRS.

Jedi as was didn't work - at least not from the perspective of a game designer looking at the long term viability of SWG.

Their solution is simple. Weaken current Jedi Padawans then re-activate the "on-top" system that was the FRS enabling Jedi Padawans to make noticable advances in power from Knight to Master.

This is my theory to explain the current torrent of balancing "nerfs" to which we have been subjected (I dislike the "n" word, it's quite reactionary you know).

I subscribe to the theory that the new FRS will be implemented when the current Padawan population has a level of power roughly equivalent to a normal fullElite templated character. Once this is achieved the power vacuum at the upper end can begin tofill. But this begs the question: how do they avoid having powerful Jedi Kinghts running about ruining the GCW? The answer is that in order to progress beyond a certain point in the FRS, the Knight must eschew such mundane concerns as the GCW and concentrate ona "higher battle" that is waged between Light and Dark. This will proabably be PvP AND PvE.

Once a part of the process the only way the Jedi can return to the GCW is by surrendering rank (and power) to such a point that it becomes allowable for that Jedi to interact at the level of combat with the regular professions.

The members of the FRS who chose the Light/Dark faction path are still open to BH attack, but one would imagine that mr BH while being able to hunt Padawans freely and with at least a 50:50 chance of winning, will need to bring his Squad Leader and BH buddies if he's going to hunt "big game" like a Jedi Guardian or Jedi Master. Much like we now need teams to take down Elite Chevron mobs.

Ok, this is my theory - but until we hear something from the Dev's it's one I would like to be the case.

its just the stupidity of turning off the old FRS completely when they started making a new one

The old system needed to go, and it needed to go fast because it was too controversial and the implementation was full of holes.

It was full of cliques and made it so that unless you ad access to the powerful organised guilds, you had no chance of progressing and the boards were constantly plagued by posts by those "locked out" complaining about the terrible system arguing with those "on the inside and doing quite nicely thank you Vicar".

My theory is all who knew the decisions behindthe core rules ofthis gamehave either quit or been fired.

--- Cancelled 24th November 2006
Reason: The lack of multiplayer pve content and Star Wars feel.
For 3 years I have tried to find excuses to stay in game but only the expansions offered me what I subscribed for in the first place: A multiplayer Star Wars pve experience with friends around the globe. I found friends but with almost no addition of pve content they dropped out one by one. Now it's my turn.

I'd be inclined to agree, but then theories are like... well, you know the rest.

I wouldn't count on it, or they would have said so every one wasn't so pissed on the nerfs.

While interesting and quite workable, I sincerely doubt this is what the Devs have in mind.

Why?

1: The devs, as they currently are, have not shown this sort of initiative nor this sort of forethought concerning SWG in the past. I have no reason to believe they're coming up with this sort of revolutionary concept (especially with ToW in the works taking up all their time). Programming such a new system would require time. With the slew of new features and content they have to perfect in ToW, this simply isn't feasible. If it is coming, it's in purely conceptual stages, and none of the ill-advised changes they've made in the past are part of any grand master plan to revolutionize the Jedi profession. The devs have historically never done that: Their idea of a grand master plan is to release a major patch that underwent halfhearted testing in the Test center by players who just showed up for the blue frogs. This single patch will consist of a massive list of fixes, some of which might work, and others which will work but cause more problems. In addition, it will not include fixes for simple issues that have been around since launch (BER 15 anyone?)

2: This concept of the FRS you put forth is stunningly similar to the concept put forth by at least 3 different players thus far. Probably more, but I'm not hunting for the posts. This has been demanded since over a year ago by players who maintain that such a system would cause GCW balance as well as allow for an Alpha class.
Wonderful, right? Except one small problem exists: SOE has never been one to use player-created ideas. I don't know why. I assume there's some sort of intellectual property thing involved here, or SOE simply may not want to make themselves look ineffective and self-insufficient by not being able to come up with their own ideas.

Sadly, both tendencies point away from the implementation of such a logical, intuitive idea that would open doors for content and balance what little of the GCW remains. And we all know how SOE feels about that.

LOL now that would be very funny.

Take Jedi the way we were a month or two ago, and make that THE TOP RANK for FRS. Then nerf down to nothing and require 18 months to get to TOP RANK to milk subscriptions.
