Please *STICKY*

Proposal to allow casual players to have a chance to keep up, but not exceed the hardcore players.
The system would see a character that has been logged out for some time earn up to 2x XP for a period of time.

This system is not new, its in EQ2 (another SOE MMORPG) and since we have some of those developers here (and core game code) the whole system makes sense and could be easily be ported or implemented. Especially based on how easily we have seen an XP change can be done, not even requiring a server reboot.

Lets call is Rested XP (RXP)

Your RXP level depends on how long you have been logged in and regens when you stay logged out.
As an example of this I have created a simple table:

Hours ingame...XP Rate.....Logout time (to get back to 200%)
0..............200%........0 days
1..............190%........1 days
2..............180%........2 days
3..............170%........3 days
4..............160%........4 days
5..............150%........5 days
6..............140%........6 days
7..............130%........7 days
8..............120%........8 days
9..............110%........9 days
10.............100%........10 days

This will allow casual players who may play for less than 1 hour a day on average the chance to stay competitive and not feel so far behind that they quit the game (important point).
It also ensure that real hardcore players are rewarded for their efforts by not letting casual players maintain excessive XP gains for more than a few hours and requiring days of logout time to gain back their advantage.

So if a player logs in for 4 hours, by the end of their session they are earning 160% (or 150% if they click to hour 5).
For each day that they stay logged out after this session the get 10% of their RXP level back.
So being logged out for 4 days will return them to their 200% level.

A Powergamer on the other hand would have played (lets assume only 6 hours per day), at the end of their first session they are earning 140%. The next day they log in (24 hours later to get the 10% RXP gain) and are getting 150% and logout at 100%. each day (24 hour pause) for the first hour they get 110% (121% with inspiration buff - stacking is an extra bonus).
If the powergamer logs out for 10 days (or 240 server hours) their RXP level is now 200%

This is a porposal for all professions. It's in the Jedi forum because thats where most people seem to go.

My last post like this got deleted (I was AFK and don't know if thread got hijakced).

I want to be a brain surgeon yet I don't want to have to go to all that school in order to accomplish this because I just don't have the time and dedication. There should be something in place to allow me to be a brain surgeon with just my associate degree.

You're idea seems nice, because I'm a casual player as well, It took me 10 months to unlock and approximately a year to finish my Jedi Template. I just don't know how viable this solution would be.

Thanks for the constructive feedback there.
Oh btw have you heard of credit based on experience? Example: If you have been working in a bank for 10 years in certain roles, then for your accounting degree you do not have to do certain subjects.
Please post informitavley and thank you for helping further my point.

I have been thinking about this alot and yes I agree that it's only a time until something like this should be implemented in SWG.

It could be called MMORPG evolution and most new MMORPG's have something like it.

--- Cancelled 24th November 2006
Reason: The lack of multiplayer pve content and Star Wars feel.
For 3 years I have tried to find excuses to stay in game but only the expansions offered me what I subscribed for in the first place: A multiplayer Star Wars pve experience with friends around the globe. I found friends but with almost no addition of pve content they dropped out one by one. Now it's my turn.

That is exactly what he is saying. He doesn't have hours and hours to grind, so he wants it cut in half since he only plays 5 minutes a day. It will still take him 10 years to unlock at that rate, and in fact it will take him 2 gaming sessions just to convert XP in the village and then get back to lok, but it is better than a 20 year grind. Right?

Do the grind or don't do it. It is up to you. Stop trying to make Jedi easy.

What I was reffering to was that college is Real Life and galaxies is only a game. The argument that he wants things simplier in real life as well as the game is pretty stupid, because hes only making this post because hes busy with real life and doesnt have time for a game

Honestly I dont care if they do this or not, I just like to b*tch i guess

I'd post this in a more profession-wide forum, personally.

But I don't neccisarily think that it should be based on logout time. I think bringing back BF would be best. Actually, not battle fatigue so much, but a more generalized "fatigue". You'd start off with 0 fatigue, which would be equivilant to 100% XP gain rate. As you perform any action (including dancing, crafting, etc) you'd gain fatigue. As your fatigue goes up, your XP goes down. Past a certain point, your actions would begin to be less and less effective. Combat toons would notice their defenses dropping, crafters would start getting critical fails more often, dancers and musicians would start playing off-key or falling down (thus preventing them from healing anybody or providing and experience buff).

Now, anybody could watch or listen to an entertainer (as you can now) but the recovery rate would be very, very slow (like1 hour to bring fatigue down to zero). However, you'd have the command to "focus" on particular customers-- however, the entertainer would have to click a box that came up to say "yes" tofocus a performance. An entertainer could "focus" on up to 8 people at once. Having a focused performance would heal your fatigue better, and an entertainer could then inspire you with a 10% XP buff-- which could not be applied if you have fatigue to begin with. That would take care of AFKers. Sure, you could get an XP fix from an AFKer, but it'd be 1000x faster if you found a person ATK, and it would be the best way to get the XP buff.

That makes people pause during their gameplay to keep their fatigue down, but also doesn't force people to simply not log in. Sometimes, you can't wait 24 hours to log in. Sometimes, you can play at 7pm one day, and then 1 pm the next day...your schedule in real life shouldn't affect your ability to get XP in a game, I think.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

There is nothing hard about getting Jedi, and there never has been. Attaining Jedi is nothing more than a time sink. Jedi just takes time and no skill. The skill in jedi is what you do with him PvP wise. I think the Jedi grind should be the same as any other profession XP wise but like FS quest's you would have to unlock branches before you trained them. Example: To master any Jedi profession you would have to complete 5 quests. The first 4 quests would unlock tiers, so you would have to train 1/1/1/1 LS first before you could train say 2/1/1/1. Just like in space. The 5th and final quest for LS profession would be solely to unlock the Master LS block. How about the quest being you have to fend off and sucessfully kill 20 Master Bounty hunters and they each have to be a diffrent player. Repeat kills of the same player do not count, to prevent exploiting. For the lower lvl tiers you could have assasination missions where you are randomly assigned to kill an online player of the oposite faction who is special forces.(The game would only assign to kill a player who is actually overt at the time you are assigned a mission.) Grinding sucks!
