There is an interview on www.mmorpg.com whereJulio Torres mentions...

The first experience a player has with a game is incredibly important in terms of design because it is within this initial time frame that a player decides whether they will continue playing the game or move-on to something else. Knowing how important it is to put your best foot forward as early as possible, we are constantly looking for ways to make the game more accessible to more players and improve the overall experience. That being said, we actually have some very exciting things in the works right now to help accomplish this. Stay tuned.

So based on this interview, a few rumors, etc I think the starter kit is a new quest-based system where the grind is gone. The 1st 30 levels are gained not by grinding xp but by doing quests. I know there are new quests in the starter kit based on this...

The Starter Pack has everything new players need to jump into the massive online role-playing world of Star Wars Galaxies. Begin your adventure by helping HAN Solo and Chewbacca fend off Jabba The Hutt on the Millennium Falcon -- then choose your path and find a place in the Galaxy. Become a rebel and fight the Empire, or join up with the Dark Side - while seeking your fortune as a Bounty Hunter, Smuggler or even a Jedi

Here's the link to buying the starter kit with description...

I see no evidence to lead me to believe that jedi are becoming starter professions anywhere in there. However it is a bit scarey to note that the following rumor (which i thought previously ridiculous) is partly true now...

The Quote below is from another poster (this isnt mine for those who pm me asking about it)

Members of the Jedi Community and all SWG players.

I know this post may get flamed, but it is only expected. There have been many rumors around the forums, but my source is a bit more than a rumor. I have been a member of the Jedi Community for a long while, and a member of SWG since the beginning. What I am about to disclose to you is top secret SOE stuff so to speak.

I have a friend whose uncle is a SOE employee. (I would give his name here, but I was advised not to because I do not wish to jepordize that individuals job. Anyways, I told my friend to ask his Uncle "What is going on with jedi recently, and why all the nerfing and changes?" He did, indeed ask him, and the response was shocking. I cancelled my account immediately after hearing this. I am not advising you to do this, but since the SWG Community Relations, and Devs will not answer all of these issues, I felt obligated to inform the community of my disturbing findings.
Here we go........

1.- Jedi are being phased into a regular profession, that will be selectable from the beginning of the game. This is the reason so many nerfs appear to be hitting jedi recently. They are attempting to slowly transition jedi into a normal class. They have not and will not inform the community about this, because it will enrage the vets. But they are hoping to keep everyone quiet while they work on this. They are also counting on the fact that more and more players will be influenced to buy the game, if jedi are immediately selectable. The bottom line is their numbers show that more players have quit the game because they were lazy and didnt want to work for jedi, as opposed to players who complain about jedi, but will not quit. They are hoping that subscription rates will soar if Jedi are immediately selectable, because jedi is the reason most players buy this game. This is also the reason why pearls/ FRS have been removed, so that vets will slowly become accustomed to being converted, and hopefully stay with the game.

2.- All melee classes are being removed. The bottom line is that SOE feels that melee professions do not appear in the movies, and they will remove them from the game. The current status of Ranged professions being dominate is all in their grand scheme of things. They are hoping that most melee players will switch their templates to Ranged now, so that when they eliminate all melee, there wont be enough of them left to cause an uproar. Therfore everyone in game will be A.- A jedi B.- Ranged C.- Crafter, Entertainer, or other. All remaining melee players will be given a respec period.

3.- All grinding is going to be removed. All leveling will soon be quest based and not grinding. Example: You will need to run to a trainer, get missions from him, he will teach you a skill box, back to step one. They are hoping that this will keep the playerbase more nethralled with the game, and get the quest based system they have always wanted.

Now the reason this may all seem far fetched to you, is because so many people on these forums cry wolf, and start rumors. but I assure you, this is the reason we dont get the responses we are looking for. Alot of people complained about the CU, but once they played it, they became adjusted and despite their complaints they still stayed subscribed. If they announced all this now, it would cause mass mahem and anger, so they will keep it quiet until it goes live, and then we are stuck with a "Like it or leave it" option. And the bottom line is (it has been proven) we will still play it.
Also, cancelled jedi accounts are a given in this, but look at it from the outside, ALOT of new players will also spawn out of this mess, because jedi will be made readily available to them.

I did not get any info on the Jedi vs. BH situation, or other important issues, but they did make it clear that there will be no more alpha classes in this game. Also do not shoot the OP, or myself. He is a messenger for me (since my account was banned) and I am a messenger from another, and I simply feel obligated to inform you all.

So if you flame me, that is fine. I am not a troll nor a rumor starter, and it is your choice alone on what you want to believe. I am simply warning you all that this will come to pass.

Bringing your special style of postinghere now, Thunderbolt? To any who read...T-Bolt has flip-flopped on his love/hate relationship with SWG for quite some time. One minute he slams those who decide to stay because WoW is so cool, thenext coupleof months later, he comes back and says how wrong he was and how much better SWG is than WoW. This lasts until the recent round of perceived "nerfs" and now he is off again. He is now just turning into another conspiracy theorist.

This new one is right up there with SWG being ported to the PS2. Until you see the box on the shelves, NOTHING you have read about the "SWG Starter Kit" is even remotely true.

I completely believe this. Seeing how they just made an expansion and took the time to add schematics for melee weapons, componets for these and a whole slew of new items for melee classes

if they were phasing out melee they would have not used the resources to add stuff for them in the expansion

I'll accept all of your apologies when Im proven right. This has nothing to do with my opinion of the game so not sure where that attack game from Gonz. And I dont necessarily find this a bad thing as it would probably boost the numbers for SWG. Personally, yes Ive decided to move on again as Im unsatisfied with crafting recently. The game is still pretty darn good but my conscience tends to bother me knowing what the game used to be and the promises broken and lies.

Facts..

1. Torres in an interview states they are looking at new ways to make new players want to stay, create a better first impression, etc. He even says stay tuned, ie something is coming.

2.A starter kit appears all over game websites with one actually describing a new mission with Han Solo using the Millenium Falcon to fight off Jabba the Hutt.

Im not making that up which is why I provided the links. I think its prety obvious a new quest based system, at least for new players at low levels is coming

-Bolt has flip-flopped on his love/hate relationship with SWG for quite some time. One minute he slams those who decide to stay because WoW is so cool,

Yep, I left because SWG at that time was in a complete mess and no work was being done (over a year ago). And WoW is pretty good, ask their 4+ million players.

thenext coupleof months later, he comes back and says how wrong he was and how much better SWG is than WoW.

About 3-4 months before CU I started to hear on a few sites that SWG was making some great improvements so I came back to take a look. Yes, they were right. Suddenly someone at SOE lit a fire under the devs tails cause stuff was actually getting fixed. They fixed the chair slide bug, rubberbanding (which ironically is now back), and several others. They also reworked the GCW tef system which was a marked improvement. They added a few other things content-wise so I gladly gave them proper credit. The game at that point was getting the attention it needed. The devs were communicating with the player base on the forums. It was an exciting thing to see as it appeared SWG would finally live up to its potential.

This lasts until the recent round of perceived "nerfs" and now he is off again. He is now just turning into another conspiracy theorist.

The game once again has returned to the dark times as dev communication is zero, nerfs are awful, and bugs are getting worse. I dont see how "complaining" when you get hit for 8k damage by a SL buffed BH as being unjustified. Everyone warned the devs that the SL buffs were extremely overpowered and they still pushed it live. Add in a misleading interview where the devs state that the expansion has something for everyone to include crafters (fat lie) and I decided to leave once again. That doesnt make me a conspiracy nut, that makes me smart. Dont provide me proper service, time to take my money elswhere

oh and by the way, that rumor I quoted isnt mine. I find the whole "my uncle told me" somewhat ridiculous. However its apparent that its partly true.

How much do you want to bet that the recent "loss of glowy 'bug'" is actually intentional, as they want to now keep new players from becoming jedi through the path of the village in preperation for this...well, whatever change it is that's looming on the horizon.

more proof that the starter kit is real and a new reworked system for new players to level is on the way.

from buy.com

With an all new design of the first 30 levels of the game, players can get into the online of world of star wars easi

I dont know anything about the rumors of jedi being redone but it seems obvious that the starter kit is 1.) real and 2.) its a new system with no grind and some new quests to entice newbs to stick around.

Little puzzled though why SOE and Tiggs would deny it exists, whats the harm ?

I have a friend who created a new account, became glowie, got the visit from the old man, then the sith thugs, then did the sith thug camp, and got her final visit from the old man again without doing a single FS tree unlock. And from what I heard, the CSR's kinda shrugged their shoulders and said, "Thats weird but there's nothing we can do" and the canned response "we are sorry for the inconvenience" hehe.

I think that's really weird and hard to believe but the person who told me was a close friend.

I wouldn't put anything past the Devs. The game is the property of SOE and they have it in their fine print that they can do whatever they feel like doing to any part of the game for any reason they see fit [or no reason at all] . . . . without notice.

..... As for Jedi becoming starter professions, or rather a choice made at the very beginning - Again I wouldn't put it past SOE or LucasArts. And from everything I have observed from both Jedi and non-Jedi standpoint, the theory is very plausable. The only thing that differentiates a Jedi from non-Jedi are the play style and the amount of hard grinding that is needed to achieve your final skills.

I disagree with the statement about the devs removing jedi before they make jedi a starter profession. Jedi is the biggest selling point of the game. It is the dream of mostStar Wars fans. I don't see many fans wanting to play the role of TK-421.

SWG was seduced by the dark side of the force.
It ceased to be SWG and became NGE.
When that happened the good game we loved was destroyed.
