Thread: Jedi in SWG
Hello there,
Disclaimer: I am not a complete star wars fanatic so i can not quote lines to backup what i say, so if i am wrong on something than please forgive me. Anyways...
I was just thinking on what happens when you unlock your forse sensitive slot. From what i have always seen jedi training takes place by practicing force tricks and blockign shots from a droid. I have never seen a jedi training consist of killing creatures, as such a jedi avoids all confrontations until a last resort. (I know that luke would kill womp rats on tatooine in his speeder, but thats before he was a jedi) This being said im curious how SOE will treat jedi advancment, will we in fact get light saber experiance by taking out innocent creatures who in some cases cant even catch that? Or do you think jedi training be more of a training that is passive?
Though i must consider that in this period in timeno formal jedi academy exists so most jedi might grow up using rogue powers. What do you guys think of this?
I must add at the end that even if raising to the skill of a jedi was performing tedious tasks such as crafting, except by pushing around objects i would still find joy in raising the skills... would you?
The thing is, the Devs probably don't feel that would be enough risk for your character. Remember, they're trying to limit the number of Jedi/Jedi Masters. Someone could go inside their house, make it so noone else could enter, and macro 'saberswing 1' and have instant exp.
Everyone who thinks Jedi are fine in this timeline are just protecting their Jedi slot. I believe the essence of it truly does not extend beyond that.
Had they never put in the ability to become a Jedi in this MMO, a rage surrounding Jedi would have never existed. This rage was misperceived by the producers as genuine interest in the class then geared the game toward that direction.
If you EVER want to stir up a rage for something in a MMO, tell someone that there is a small chance that they can own a character that is 30 times more powerful than 99.999999% of the other players you are surounded by. (That is what they were a long time ago.)
THAT is the interest in the Jedi class, and it extends little beyond that as well.

Jedi do exist in this timeline as supported by ep. III (Obi-wan and Yoda risking their lives to reconfigure the temple transmitter to warn away those jedi not already killed) and ep. IV ("the jedi are ALL BUT extinct..Their fire has gone out of the galaxy."). Why have Yoda and Obi-wan risk all to switch the transmitter and why wouldn't Obi-wan say "The jedi are extinct."? Jedi dueling in Theed in front of the starport? Ok that's not fitting the timeline. Perhaps a penalty of a certain as a blue glowy for each death from vis would help that...

This rage was misperceived by the producers as genuine interest in the class then geared the game toward that direction. The rage wouldn't have existed if the jedi were never added, but the game hasn't been totally geared towards jedi as most would think. Jedi currently has a LOT of downsides and little more power/ability than the average template for the large amount of effort required to finish one.

(That is what they were a long time ago.) Yes, it will make most players in an MMO work toward the "Alpha class", but I doubt that jedi was ever 30 times as strong. I've heard pre-9 jedi state that they were maybe five times as strong though.
THAT is the interest in the Jedi class, and it extends little beyond that as well. Not actually. There are STILL a lot of people grinding to open a jedi even after all of the reductions in powers/abilities. It's not "Little beyond that" in interest. A lot of people who saw the original trilogy have wanted a chance to RP a jedi for a long time.

Trolling again Ternque? At least this time you're not masquerading as a Jedi.
Go away little troll.

Go away little troll.
Sharing a well-stated, clear opinion is trolling?
I'm just saying things that need to be said.
Good to see you again, btw.

Had they put in a ferret class there might be a similar argument, and the point would be moot as well.

THAT is the interest in the Jedi class, and it extends little beyond that as well. Simple and flat!
