Thread: Options for jedi population control?

I want a serious, calm, non-offending discussion about the options for jedi population control.

Post your thoughts here, if you dont think the overpopualtion is an issue, if you think it is and what you think can be done.

My personal opinion is that this is an major issue for SWG. The overpopulaion has gravitated the game away from timeline, unbalanced pvp and ruined GCW. It also makes any SW-roleplaying impossible since jedis are in the middle of most large cities duelling in large numbers. It also make people to grind jedi rather than other, regularprofessions, which makes some regular professions more rare than jedi should be. All content is consumed by jedi issues right now. And the coming jedi expansion (TOW) wont make this better. I know that 55% of all BH is a jedi alt. It could mean that a large majority (60%+)of all players of SWGare jedi today.Jedi has become the most common profession it seems.

Jedi should be hard to reach and be a very rare profession the devs said when jedi came into game. Today its none of those.

Since we have a large inflow of jedi in SWG, we need an outflow too. Todays theres no outflow of jedi and they never vanish from game, just keep getting ebayed. That means they just keep mutiplying.

My solution is a form of permadeath. Permanent loss of all jedi skills (not items, credits, houses etc, etc) when DBd in pvp by BH or opposite faction jedi the 3rd time in a week. Three times since that would prevent getting PDd due to technical problems. If you suffer technical breakdown and get DBd, you just dont play your jedi for a while and get 3 new kills next week.

In fact I'd like to see not only jedi having a death penaltie, I'd like to see all professions have some kind of death penaltie, like xp loss or something. But jedi should have the PD, since theyr an alpha class.

Along with PD we need a server jedi populationcap to ensure we dont get jedi overpopulation again.

Im all in favor for makeing jedi stronger due to this changes, and that they should become more rare at the same time. I do not hate jedi, I actually like them. And I even like those who actually can roleplay them even more! They really add something really cool to this game! I know that theres alot of veteran jedi players that supports the idea of PD/population control out there, I hope they make thie voice heard now...

This is just my thoughts...

the era we are in is what we make it, we are the players and we control what happens not the stupid films. and all that time grinding to have it taken away from me from being with a dodgy group etc is just stupid.

so what your saying, is grind 3months or so getting all the skills, to have to limit yourself to 3 times of dying and then have no skills again? sounds a bit one way to me...

do you have any incentive for jedi for winning etc?

i think every time a BH dies he should lose all his BH skills and start from novice!!!!

Well I think your a bit simple. Its people like you who need controlling. Everyone become a jedi in a few hours. WE NEED MORE JEDI.

In my humble, honest, and calm opinion, I think all people who are so wrapped up in the game as to try to control who can do what at what time in the game should just quit.

This topic comes up over and over again and lots of good ideas get thrown up each time, but no consensus is ever reached or likely to be reached in the future. You are unlikely to get agreement about an appropriate level for the jedi population.
Like it or not Jedi in SWG are here to stay. The Genie is out of the bottle and we can't put it back.
So how do we make the best of it. Firstly advance the timeline to Jedi Academy time frame. The only reason there seems to be to hang on to the current time point is so you can go talk to Vader. Since all of the rebels are still around I think most would cope with not being able to visit Vader. I rather visit Grand Admiral Thrawn or some other post Episode VI characters anyway.

Personally I don't care if the entire player population are untrained wielders of the force (strictly speaking currently there are no Jedi as their is no Jedi academy to train them) even if that means there are several thousand per server. The non player galaxy population is in the trillions so I can RP and rationalise the fact that there are several thousand force wielders many of whom would like to attend a jedi Academy if it existed. Players want to be the heroes in this game and for many that means being "Jedi" and indeed that is what SOE is selling and promoting.

My solution is simple. Advance the time line and give Jedi something to do other than hang out in Theed. Give players a positive reason, a carrot, to not be hanging out PvP-ing in Theed. If their was a readily accessible PvP battleground (planet, arena, zone, whatever) with low lag and rewards for going there, no-one would be PvP-ing in Theed.

There is really nothing that can be done about overpopulation now as so many have their jedi atm. I have 2 suggestions to sort out the GCW issue and the "rarity" of Jedi, hear me out:

1: GCW-----People are always complaining that Jedi are ruining the GCW, one possible remedy (not a final solution but would help) is to reduce the bounty on non alligned Jedi (neutral) to maybe 1/2 of that of alligned Jedi who are on the boards...would encourage more of the newer Jedi to go neutral therefore removing them from the GCW to an extent. To do this we would need to have Jedi factions introduced though, which would prolly take the devs another year to implement

2: FRS-----In order to give those Jedi who want it, the feeling of uniqueness again, I say tell us when the FRS is gonna hit again...but make it like Jedi was at launch, don't tell us how to gain access to it (controversial!), just let us explore, do things we never would have done before trying to find a way to enter the FRS (or whatever it will be called).

Would have to be a different sequence of things for each player (not like hologrind, I had enough of that to last a lifetime) but not just gaining badges or whatever. Maybe one day you are walking around dathomir, and you see something shimmering in the distance...when you get to it, you find it is an item on the ground next to a tree....upon examining it you find that there are markings you dont recognise...then one day, perhaps a few weeks later you talk to a random NPC in the wild that you come across. He tells you about how he studied ancient languages.....(see where im going with this?) you put 2+2 together and voílahe translates the script...but its only partially complete part of a co-ordinate on lok....so you continue your quest...<add your own ideas for further journeys here>.

This could take months or even years but I would personally love it and the people who eventually found access to the secret councils of the dark and light would be rare again, and would get their power back from FRS mods or whatever (also would tie in with idea 1 for the gcw, we would all be too busy with our own journey for the secrets of the force to worry bout the gcw)..... just an idea.

personaly. i dont care how many jedi are ont eh server. what i care is how many we see. if i never saw a jedi in the Starports I'd still consider it a rare prof even if 90% of the people on teh server where jedi. Personaly I would suggest this.

RISK: Bring back jedi Gank squads... nothing like 8 Bh crawling up a jedi's butt to make him sweat... especialy 8 MBH MCM that just form a healing ball on each other or 4 MBH M rifles all conceald and shooting from difrent directions to confuse the hell out of a jedi...

Mabye have it so padawan get 1BH, Knight gets 2-3, Guardian get 4-5 Master gets upto 8. that way lower lvl jedi cant get ganked out of reason.

RISK: if you Die 3 times a week. you loose all banked XP and your unable to gain XP for... say a week

Peanelty: if you have high Visability your are unable to train. and if you maintain high visability... mabye one of them legendary NPC attacks the DEVS threatend us with back in the early days hologrinds and ONLY from the NPC attack (that you WILL DIE FROM) can you go Zero banked XP and you lose one of your highest/one of your highest skills. to be retrained as normal (who wants to regrind MLS from Zero?)

REWARD: Bring back LS damage type. in affect incresing the damage of ALL sabers by 60-70ish percent (armor break would then become a bigger negative affect on the allready non existent armor)

Reward: bring back LS block but only to 50% (mabye a 2% chance of Saber block per block of LS)

Reward: give jedi heals equal ability with the BASE stats of a MCM or Mdoc (at Master Healer)

i dotn know thats my two cents
