Post your thoughts here, if you dont think the overpopualtion is an issue, if you think it is and what you think can be done.
My personal opinion is that this is an major issue for SWG. The overpopulaion has gravitated the game away from timeline, unbalanced pvp and ruined GCW. It also makes any SW-roleplaying impossible since jedis are in the middle of most large cities duelling in large numbers. It also make people to grind jedi rather than other, regularprofessions, which makes some regular professions more rare than jedi should be. All content is consumed by jedi issues right now. And the coming jedi expansion (TOW) wont make this better. I know that 55% of all BH is a jedi alt. It could mean that a large majority (60%+)of all players of SWGare jedi today.Jedi has become the most common profession it seems.
Jedi should be hard to reach and be a very rare profession the devs said when jedi came into game. Today its none of those.
Since we have a large inflow of jedi in SWG, we need an outflow too. Todays theres no outflow of jedi and they never vanish from game, just keep getting ebayed. That means they just keep mutiplying.
My solution is a form of permadeath. Permanent loss of all jedi skills (not items, credits, houses etc, etc) when DBd in pvp by BH or opposite faction jedi the 3rd time in a week. Three times since that would prevent getting PDd due to technical problems. If you suffer technical breakdown and get DBd, you just dont play your jedi for a while and get 3 new kills next week.
In fact I'd like to see not only jedi having a death penaltie, I'd like to see all professions have some kind of death penaltie, like xp loss or something. But jedi should have the PD, since theyr an alpha class.
Along with PD we need a server jedi populationcap to ensure we dont get jedi overpopulation again.
Im all in favor for makeing jedi stronger due to this changes, and that they should become more rare at the same time. I do not hate jedi, I actually like them. And I even like those who actually can roleplay them even more! They really add something really cool to this game! I know that theres alot of veteran jedi players that supports the idea of PD/population control out there, I hope they make thie voice heard now...
This is just my thoughts...
First off, any time you start your arguement with "In my opinion..." you just lost the debate.
The first thing you need to realize is that ToOW is not, NOT, a jedi expansion. There will be more for others than for Jedi, simply because if it truly was a Jedi only expansion, then Jedi would have to be nerfed to somewhere around novice brawler, because the other professions would whine like a rich brat that didn't get a ferrari for his birthday.
I would like to see some hard data on your statistics. Maybe you could survey all the BH's in all the servers and print out a table that shows us how 55% of all BH's are jedi alts. If in fact that is true, there is a reason for it. "Know Thy Enemy". I truly suspect that your statistics are contrived, as, at least on my server, there are at least ten times the amount of jedi that are BH. When one BH shows up to hunt you, you can be guaranteed that another is only about 3 minutes behind him, and quite often a third will show, if the fight ensues long enough. Is that not enough popultion control for you?
Also, Please explain, other than in your opinion, why Jedi need controlled anyway. The same arguement can be leveraged toward BH's and AFK entertainer and doc cred hounds. They both contribute to the destruction of the game (in my opinion, which counts just the same as yours, i.e. it doesn't) in the fact that they hamper the enjoyment of the game by a greater populus.
Death penalties just don't work. If you ever played EQ before the Shadows of Luclin expansion, and had a Level 50 toon go to a level 25 in a guild raid, you start looking for something else. If they institue a death penalty, then the power will have to be increaced exponentially. If I die three times and have to start the jedi grind again, then I should, by all rights be able to stand against at least 20, if not 50 opposing players/BH's/NPC's. The reason is thus: When the playerbase figures out that a Jedi, who has ground harder than any other profession in the game, can loose their status, they will form more gank squads, and start the lynchings.
As for the population cap, lets do it with all professions. I say only 50 entertainers, 10 each of all elite crafting professions (So a crap chestplate can go for 175 million creds, and a free standing lamp can go for 300 mill, and a crate of pikata pie will set you back billions), maybe 100 of each combat profession, and 2 or 3 jedi, that could defeat the rest of the playerbase on the server all at once, and still have about 50% force left. This way you can get a message when you log in "You are number 857,445 in the cue to play on your server. You can try another server if you like, the lowest cue on the other servers is 775,840." But atleast there won't be so many jedi out spin grinding in the corners of Talus, and the PvPing in theed (not ONLY jedi in the first place) will be non existant.
So to be congruent with the origional post:
IN MY OPINION, if you don't like the game, the way it is, library cards are free. I had at one time thought sabers need to be jumped up in power a bit, but I have since changed my view, and now I really like playing the game the way it is.
Also if you want:
a serious, calm, non-offending discussion
you probably shouldn't have a discussion about making life harder on other people. If you want that kind of discussion, tell us what you, yourself, have with the tools you have to make the game a better one, I.E. not dueling in the starports, not afk credit hounding, not lootcamping, actually figuring out what your role is in the galaxy, and roleplaying it, becoming struck with benevolence and helping the new players out when you have a (HELPER) tag, organizing a guild hunt, creating a live player event, ...etc. Don't come in here and tell me how you want to take away the class I know and love to play, as you have already offended, according to you, 60% of the players, and that is not a good ratio of people to have mad at you.
Have an outstanding day.
wow Mclearin....simply wow!!!!! /clap
awsome...
/bow4
just give us Jedi content and disable Jedi from beinga part of GCW.... make FRS non pvp related and the Jedi won't be seen in your cities..
I personally with my Jedi as anyone who has met me on Intrepid will tell you I DO role play and stay in hiding ..... and help new players ..new Jedi and am not a loot monger or pvper in GCW...
Give the Jedi PvPers content with tehre own personal war between light /dark side perma aggro to each other and agin solves many issues

When you read jargals other threads, you will find this http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=bounty_hunter&message.id=537359&view=by_date_ascending&page=1 (cliky anyone?)
After reading it his credebility, integrity and dignity all crash quicker than george bush riding a bike
I think in order for to be less Jedi there would have to be other options for players to be.
1. BH should be made equal to jedi but have to grind it out the same way jedi's do have it take 6 months to be a bh waiting for phases to change.
2. have more high class Professions: instead of having just jedi's have other things to unlock into like nightsister slaves or something.
3.as far as grinding fs goes i think the coverstion rate is still way too high that would cut down on new jedi's as well
well those are just some thoughts, they probably all suck so thanks for listening lol
slap a sticker on the box your game came in that says "SWG:KOTOR".
