You are exactly right, in my humble opinion.
Oreq
errr.... Maybe you're right.... Even most likely....
And what? Iam 100% sure SOE is a greedy corporation, which has one goal - to earn money (as absolutely all, 100% of all other corporations). They were lucky to get Star Wars tm and they will milk it and there will be people who will pay in to play in SW universe.
You don't like it? Quit.
I don't like how they handle things either, but I'm just making breaks for a couple of months when I'm bored or enraged.

A lot of Jedi and others want to know what to expect in their future, if critical issues will see a fix, or if the FRS, GCW, and other core game systems will get returned into play, and so I'd just like to give you guys a look at what to expect.
After over one year from its release in fall 2003, the game got its first expansion, Jump to Lightspeed, on November 1, 2004. Until then, the devs had been readily working on key issues and game improvements including the Patch 9 Jedi revamp, etc. Then, within 6 months of JTLS, they drop yet another expansion on May 5th, 2005. Now, less than4 months later, they have yet another expansion in the works to be released this year. All the issues from the CU have been completely ignored or postponed, in favor of dropping these two expansions within one year.
So here's the future of the game. Most of the developers have been pulled off the core game to work on expansions that they will drop every 6 months, while the few that are left have more work fixing the broken core game than they could possibly ever do. Expansions are all about selling boxes and quick income, and I'm guessing each expansion from here out will be lighter on content and quality control, as SOE gets greedier and greedier and sets even more impossible timelines.
While SOE pushes expansion after expansion, the core game will languish, little content will be added in the monthly patches, and even less key issues will be addressed. SOE has chosen to milk the game for everything it can get by betting everything they have on expansion after expansion to get the quick cash, and likely has little in the way of long-term plans for the core game.
Note, even games like WoW add huge amounts of content, and tweak balance issues on a monthly basis WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY working on an expansion in the background. SOE has quit working on the core game, and instead makes us pay for the content we should be getting for free by putting them in the form of $30 expansions.
FRS? Pearl Fixes? Lightsaber speed? New content? Maybe they'll stretch it over the next 5 expansions and get $150 more dollars in addition to your monthly fees out of you.

if we had a larger player base maybe they would do this but in order to get a larger player base they need to do this but won't because they don't have a large enough player base etc

And then one day we will log on to the forums and see a post by TIGGS very similar to this.

This is the future that awaits SWG, there is no longer any repairing this game.
I wouldn't doubt it.
They are timing the releases to be related to the New Star wars Movie. First it's the CU and the ROTW expansion. I don't recall which of those fell around the release date of the Episode III movie.
Now the new expansion is set to around the time Episode III hits the DVD market. Hell I sure as hell bet that when you purchase that DVD there will be probably be an AD for SWG in it.
They are trying to boost subscribers up to I'm assuming some kind of Operations quota. If the game doesn't meet this well then I can see this game going down the drain as well.
Even adding SWG to the Station Access was a plan to increase subscribers. I'm a Station Access Member and even if I don't play SWG at all my account is still alive as long as I play any of the other 2 which are Planetside and EQ 2.
They are milking the NAME more then trying to create a good game.
SWG in it's current state is very bad IMO and like many am hoping it will improve.

Yah, I am leaning that way too-
I play both WoW and SWG. And Blizzard has their chips in the right corner: "Keep your vet gamres happy and they will pull in the crowd- I mean I can contribute to hooking in 7 peeps into WoW just from someone giving me 10 trial.
So I might go on a 2month cancelation hop back in to keep my toon in exostance and hop back out cause I have WoW to substitue-
But I must say I am impressed at WoW. You see their patch notes? Bunch of content and more than like over 100 bug fixes !!! We waited for 2-3 months but this is worth my $15 a month with no cost for more content- http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/patchnotes/patchnotes.html
Oh and btw the future of this game is not to fix bugs before they go on- theyare only interested in what fascinated us to buy SWG in the first place, so yah- this is terrible for us peeps that just wanna play a game that works
Blizzard does an impressive job keeping up on patches, and adding new content to their game. WOW is not without problems though but they are a problem of a different nature, and I can think of no good way of dealing with the issue there.
- Ninja Looters
- Gold Farmers (related to the first problem)
- Spawn Camping
- Community in general are imature
But the code is solid, and they generally have a good product that most of the time works quite well. Servers are less laggy (not perfect in that corner, but certainly better than SWG). Lots of content, and lots of new content in each publish. Some of the publishes that Blizzard has pushed live (IE: Battlegrounds) for free SOE would no doubt try to sell for $30 bucks as a download or box copy. So your value to the dollar is certainly better.
