And then one day we will log on to the forums and see a post by TIGGS very similar to this.
This is the future that awaits SWG, there is no longer any repairing this game.
I wouldn't doubt it.
They are timing the releases to be related to the New Star wars Movie. First it's the CU and the ROTW expansion. I don't recall which of those fell around the release date of the Episode III movie.
Now the new expansion is set to around the time Episode III hits the DVD market. Hell I sure as hell bet that when you purchase that DVD there will be probably be an AD for SWG in it.
They are trying to boost subscribers up to I'm assuming some kind of Operations quota. If the game doesn't meet this well then I can see this game going down the drain as well.
Even adding SWG to the Station Access was a plan to increase subscribers. I'm a Station Access Member and even if I don't play SWG at all my account is still alive as long as I play any of the other 2 which are Planetside and EQ 2.
They are milking the NAME more then trying to create a good game.
SWG in it's current state is very bad IMO and like many am hoping it will improve.

SOE lacks the devotion ofa major production studio that's required to effectively operate an MMO of this maginatude. Their unwillingness to invest in critical issues such as hardware updates and Q&A is their downfall.
The dissappointing thing is that they ARE a major production studio and yet they DON'T effectively operate it. It's weird that they were the the first out of the gate with EverQuest (can you say, right place at the right time?), and yet they haven't learning anything from it. Now it's two years later and we have Holocron posting on the forums about how they're JUST NOW revamping their development/QA/maintenance process. That took two years?!? AFTER all the experience SOE had from EQ?

My opinion on how things should work...(lol like it matters)
Hot fix: should fix small bugs such as glitches and anything can be easily repaired, as well as ballance issues.
Publish: Should add lots of Content, and repair major issues.
Expansions: Should create new ways to play SWG (just like JTL did) and add some content.
SOE has not began to do this. From the begining, they have changed professions and attepted to fix the bugs that those changes made. Then they did the CU.. in which we mearly asked for the combat professions to be more balance, not for a completely new combat system (but I agree something needed to be done).. there has been some good additions inbetween, but far and few.. not enough content add either.
But the sad thing is that I still love this game and they keep my attention long enough for me to pay that extra moth of service.
With the CU they totally got rid of all the bad parts about alot of proffessions. Back before everyone was jedis we were the normal proffessions, n remember when all your riflement would get the high groud at their most accurate position far away from the monsters, remember when riflemen would get owned by rushing mobs.
We are playing a game run by a greedy uncaring corporation. But still, we have a choice. Play or quit, or play and dont buy the expansion. I left swg after the CU hit. I played on TS and i just couldnt stand the thought of beta testing their game for them while paying monthly for it. So i took a few months off and i came back. CU isnt that bad and im getting used to the changes.
Do you know why game developers for online gaming products always nerf one profession after another, while boosting others? Did you think it was for the sake of balance? Did you think that sony doesnt know what they are doing? I mean seriously, do you guys really think they dont know about the bugs? The issues, our complaints, and rants?
They do.
But...
They dont care.
They are a corporation that revolves around making MONEY. Not making entertainment. They will do anything and everything to make us play longer than we intended by nerfing your profession to make you grind out the new FOTM template to be competitive. If you are grinding u are still playing. SOE knows u will get bored if u stick to the same template and will quit. If they dont nerf templates you quit and they dont get their money.
This is a fact. This was unveiled by one of the early head producers of SWG. I dont remember his name (and no longer works for SOE but working on another mmorpg, but he posted a very specific, very detailed, "How to run a mmorpg" that was implemented by SOE with everquest and again with swg and showed how soe 'learned' from their experience with Everyquest in ... no, not making the game more fun... but rather how to keep players playing and paying. It even went into detail on how to run forums to allow players to feel like they have control through an outlet to express their hatred and unhappy feelings about the current state of the game, even though the devs do not really read or take into consideration anything that is written on the forums, except once in a while, like the most recent post by TH confirming SOE knows about jedi speed bug, but no ETA for the fix. Why? cuz they have absolutely no plan to fix it until they feel they will lose accounts by not fixing it. TH posted not to make us feel like they care, but rather to feed us that comfort that they care when it was all pre-planned to have TH post to make jedi feel like they are heard when in fact they will not do a damned thing about it.
SOE probably realized that SWG is not going to last forever, it simply cannot with current subscribership at all time low, they are forced to work on expansions that provide little content but cost as much as the original game to get the bonuses and be competive. They will make these expansions absolutly necessary to gamers, especially now jedi which is a growing population, lol, no chit, and if u want to compete, u have to shell out the money.
Bottom line if u dont like that, mmorpg are not for you. Best thing is to just play for fun, and when u get bored, take a few months off and play another.
Maybe we need to take a stand and tell swg to take their mustafar expansion and shove it and just fix the bugs for a year or so, i dont care for new content, i want a working game and so does everyone else. But that wont happen, swg is coming to an impass, w/o new players the game cannot survive because the profits or lack there of will force exec's to shut the game down.
Should we all come together and boycott the expansion?
i cant really say that for they would ban me.. lol. But seriously, understand this thread well and if u dont like what u are reading , then all i can say is, tough chit, its a cold world, and cold hard reality is soe didnt make the game for us to have a nice fantasy to escape RL, they made the game to take our money and as much of it as they can.
So much truth in this thread it hurts. Of that 200k accounts or whatever, I wonder how many individual subscribers there are. We all know tons are alts.
As everyone has pointed out, SOE is here to make money. In reference to this I'd like to let them know that I play this game because it is SW and I will NEVER pick up another SOE game like this based on the BS they've layed on the playerbase. I almost picked up a Station acct but decided if I was going to pick up another game it will certainly be from another privider.
80% of accts stopped subscription? That tells it all. I've often wondered if it's more profitable short term to sell the software and then not provide more than basic support so you don't have to build the servers to support the load. Even with a "light" or "very light" server load we cause horrible lag and can even crash the server when a group gets together for PvP or a live event. This is way out of my area but is a curiosity of mine.

Supposedly SW:G has more subscribers than EQ2 right now, but the issue is that SOE doesn't have to give a cut of the profits for EQ2 to anyone else. With SOE they have to give a cut to Lucas Arts. So the profits aren't as high here.
WoW on the other hand isn't even in the same statosphere with SW:G because WoW has something like 2 million subscribers. SW:G has like 250,000. (And my guess is that it's really more like 200,000.)
WoW can afford to do a lot of free content every month with a subscribership that borders on the totally insane.
This game could have been so good, but it just had too many things going against it from the beginning. #1 SOE, #2 Raph Koster... Everything that Mr. Koster touches turns to crap it seems.
It just goes to prove that if you give the customers what they want in a timely fashion, like any dim-witted college student majoring in business knows to do, then you can beat out the other guy every time.
Blizzard has not only beat out every other major player in the MMORPG market, they've beat them down, and into the ground too, and they did it with an inferior product/brand as well.

QFE!
So true that there was so much more potential then WoW could have.
