Let's take a look at this closely.

Allow Jedi to trade their "bio-linked" crystals/pearls,

GOOD NEWS: A Jedi knows what they are getting up front. If they're not getting them for free (obviously there will be many sold), at least you know what you're getting at it will also give Jedi who may not be able to affordthe -9/120 pearl a chance at a -7/100 or similar. Why spend 20 million on an untuned premium pearl that may tune to -1/20 when you could spend 20 million on a pearl that has a good tune already? I think this might help lower the price on untuned pearls, premium or otherwise.

BAD NEWS: Prices for finely tuned items may climb higher than they are now, making tuned -9/120 or similar pearls unobtainable for many Jedi.

Allow Jedi to trade their "bio-linked" crystals/pearls to be "retuned" by another Jedi.

GOOD NEWS: It puts an influx of crystals/pearls back on the market like the previous solution. However a Jedi once again is at the mercy of the randomness of tunes. Many older Jedi with flawless and/or premium crystals/pearls can get rid of their older collection of bad tunes and make a fortune, whereas in the previous solution they would still be garbage.

BAD NEWS: There would be more crystals/pearls back on the market. How is this bad? As stated previously, all "junk" tunes from premium or flawless crystals/pearls will hit the trade boards, and the Jedi community will still be at the mercy of a flawed tuning system while the older Jedi get richer than they might in the previous solution.

Change the lightsaber completely, removing the need for FOUR excellent crystals/pearls.

QUICKIE: This would work like weapon crafting does now. You craft your lightsaber, and that's it. You can swap out a color crystal at will that applies elemental damage like it does now. That is the only thing that is swappable. You can even go so far as having enhancing "slots" during the crafting process for optional components you can get from other professions (see MsNil's post here). This will allow other professions to slightly profit at the expense of Jedi instead of various people greatly profiting now, and making only the super rich have a shot at great lightsabers.

Basically you would make every crystal a color crystal, and every pearl give off a different color as well (think pre publish 9). The only real difference between the two is the pearl would give you a 20% elemental damage bonus as opposed to a 25% bonus for crystals. As far as the components for a lightsaber go, they could also drop from various NPCs, 99.9999999% of the time never exceeding a crafted version of the same component.

GOOD NEWS: Eliminates the requirement of crystals/pearls for a damage boost in lightsabers. Narrows the gap completely in terms of lightsaber damage, speed, and force cost. Doesn't give one person a huge advantage over another when wielding the same weapon, which is what the CU was supposed to be all about. Reduces the cost of being a Jedi.

BAD NEWS: All the credits spent on crystals/pearls up to this point would be for nothing in a sense, and would make many people mad. Some would also argue that having everyone with basically the same damage output would also be bad.

If I had to vote, I'd vote for #1 or #3 (preferably #3, and this is coming from a pre CU Jedi Knight with almost a perfect pre CU lightsaber). Honestly, any change to the lightsaber system at this point isn't going to please everyone, and some people are definitely going to profit big from it. And fixing the pearl drops won't make things better in my opinion either. Could you imagine the huge influx of Jedi we've had lately, with their friends and guildmates, camping the Krayt Graveyard day and night? I foresee how it was way back when, when there was tons and tons of kill stealing and people cursing at eachother back and forth. That is not fun gameplay, and causes hostility we don't need in this game.

Lol this was bad... I mean think about it.

Do this then instead (SAVE US ALL THE TROUBLE OF ALL OF THIS ABOVE)... Just give each person a freaking saber doing 800 damage and same stats get it over with lol.

Reinventing the WHEEL is not what we need my gosh. I look at this and just think we have lost so much that was once key for Jedi to be Jedi.... I mean I read that twice and thought W T F... Just get this overwith make us a easy prof and call it a day.

The retune is about the smartest thing to do. All this other jazz is months of crap to be done. The retune code IS STILL THERE from patch 9 actully and they know it.

All this other Jazz is all new Jedi stuff.... so more or less back to square 1.

Repeat until perfect tune is achieved.

This could result in everyone having perfect sabers very quickly.

Agreed. Maybe they could make it so each person can only tune it once. So, person A tunes it and gets crap...gives it to person B. Person B tunes it and gets crap. Gives it back to person A but person A is not allowed to tune it because they already have once.

That would allow one crystal to rotate through the whole population but never done by the same person twice. This would allow many people to get the chance for a perfect tune but there wouldn't be as much cheating. Sure, eventually everyone could have a perfect crystal but it would take MUCH longer.

I don't think this is good. In theory yes, but keep in mind (if you've been playing since launch you'd know this) their database design obviously sucks. To ask them to keep a relational table with the player names/IDs of every player that tuned every people isa resource task and cost (remember they use Oracle) they probably would not undertake.

Im afraid a Re-tune option would not help much, unless the biolink is complete removed.

1. This will benefit mostly the older Jedi, since they have the bags of Premium/Flawless pearls
2. The new players not have the luxury of having bags of "bad" tuned pearls. After the CU, they have to use what they got. No matter what
quality!
3. Many of the older players did not at that time use ADK to protect their pearls. Grind pearls and PvP pearls where treated as two different
sort of pearls, so many will have pearls of reduced quality
4. This might help for a short time, while people are retuning old pearls, but when its retuned we are back where we are now: craving for new
pearls
5. For SOE this would be much more work, then just repairing the pearl drop from the krayts again! And repairing the pearl drops would make
people actually go and hunt krayts again. Now, people dont much bother since they dont drop anything of value for them anyway.

My Conclusion is SOE and WE would be far better of if they just repaired the Pearl Drop.

I've already suggested what I think is the most fair way of fixing the whole pearl/crystal situation....

GET RID OF THEM.

Make crystal packs a normal, craftable component that uses experimentation and carries damage, speed, SAC, and Force Cost stat modifiers. Then the more skills you have in Lightsaber Techniques, the better each part of the lightsaber becomes -- crystal packs and final lightsaber. At Master Lightsaber, with the right resources and using the correct tools and foods, you would have the ability to craft the best lightsabers through skill points and time invested -- rather than through random luck or some prayer to the pearl drop and tuning gods.

That's the way to fix this mess.

I like this idea the best so far.

I think you're stuck in the Ice Age of Jedi, back in January 2004 or something. We're not special anymore. Up until today's patching of the group experience nerf, we've been very easy to obtain and grind out. This profession has progressively gotten easier over time.

Obviously you don't truly care to take what is left of this profession and at least gear it up to be more Jedi like. Going out and hunting Krayts for four months to build a great lightsaber was not my idea of a good time. How in the world it ever made sense to anyone that putting four pearls and a crystal inside a lightsaber was "how it's made" is beyond me and knows nothing of Star Wars. I bet you like the FRS too.

Unfortunately with such progressive thinkers like yourself as the majority of the posters in this forum, we'll probably never get anywhere and stay in the Ice Age.

You know this post is BS. Why you may ask. If the devs can assign Boss marks to BH's then they can fix Krayts and assign drop rates and pearls to types of Dragons. What part of this reason escapes you? Why is the crappy smuggler loot dropping like mad from dragons? When is a smugler in all seriousness going to go out and hunt Krayts all day? I would say ....hardly ever if never.

Suggestion for Pearl/Crystal Fix.

I recieved a PM today from a community member asking me to address his suggestion. His suggestion was this.

"With the current situation of pearl drops as they are, which is very unbalancing for the game, and the devs seems to have problems fixing it, would it not be an idea to suggest to them to remove the "jedi specific requirement" on already tuned pearls and crystals. As we all know older most older jedi have a stock of tuned pearls they dont use because they have slighty better ones in their saber ADK'ed. this will create a new market and allow older jedi to give to new jedi in their guild, or sell them if they wish."

With that said. I am also aware that this has been dicussed in the past. What I told him was maybe a re-tune option instead of just taking away names (BioLink) from current tunes. I know there are some of us older Jedi that have plenty of extras (in some cases bags of 50) but would it be fair to allow us to sell them for Millions of credits?

/Discuss

Edit:

I guess what I am wondering is would people be ok with this if proposed to the Devs? A re-tune option.

I would agree with this on the condition that you have the choice to retune or not. I don't want to risk having my decent tunes going bad for the sake of retuning them.

With that said, I would also like to see a quest based pearl/crystal acquisition method. This would include ideas similar to Necrosis dropping Bane's Heart Crystal. I would also like to see the other special color crystals (i.e. Windu's Guile, Kenobi's Legacy, etc...) implemented in this way. An NPC quest from the Jedi Enclave's or from the village would be nice perhaps only one NPC is needed with a random color crystal as the reward. Ifdone in this form, I would like to see the questbeing able to berepeatedto collect all of the specialty color crystals. It's worth mentioning that we are seeing limited color lightsabers (Sunrider's Destiny and Bane's Heart) which is almost as bad as seeing the same robes on every Jedi.

I know I mentioned only color crystals here but damage crystals or pearls could be implemented in the same way.

Thanks for reading.

i think they should go with the re tune option if they just absolutely cannot fix the drops. Why force people who may not have connections to shell out millions (and it would be A LOT) for a decent pearl. This would also give vets a huge monetary advantage and would be generally bad for the economy as a whole.

A few things to ponder

Think about all the tuned crystals and pearls in the game that are still there but thier tuner has left the game or is no longer logged in... how do we re-tune that VAST untapped resource?

There is NO WAY that this is goingto wind up being even remotely fair to people that don't have deep pockets.

We need an NPC turn-in system of some kind that re-cycles the drops in some way. A lottery.. or some other system.

This should be fair to all, not the privilaged connected few or the deep-pocketed.

This is SWG for god sakes.. not the GOP convention.

I don't think this is a very good idea for a permanent fix. As someone else suggested, it would "OK" at best for a temp. fix. But I really don't want to see a temporary fix. As this will allow the devs to put it on the back burner (most likely for a long time).

I would rather see the ideas of crystals/pearls being used in jedi sabers removed from the game. then allow jedi to craft their own crystals that go into the sabers, from minerals are resources. It will not only allow everyone to have agood weapon, but it will create a ballance amongst the jedi community. Making the pvp aspect, more of a strategy wins, instead of a "he who has the best crystals/perals" wins theme like we have now.

Sorry but all these idea's are just stupid, Just fix the damdrops It's as simple as that, None of this bullsh1tting around, Why does everyone have to do everything the hard way???.If they can't even fix the drops how hard do you think it will be for them to implement these systems???

And even doing this for a temporary fix?.......whatever.... Get real.

Could I retune my own pearls?

What I mean is: could I take a premium pearl that I once had that tuned to less than the best and then retune it myself to hopefully get a better result? Could you go on retuning forever?
