Thread: A BH asking Jedi if this is an exploit

it's not actually an exploit but it's pretty lame, personally if the duel started before the bh attacked and they didn't end it's not really lame. but if they started a duel after he attacks it's lame.

That's just it some people may not want to be involved in forced player versus player. Everyone has their own play style wether it be pvp, solo, or cooperative play. You cant fault them if they dont want to fight you and if they figure a way out of it because they feel forced to pvp or what ever their reasons may be. To each their own i guess. All i know is that the bh forum and the jedi forum are just so saturated with posts like this. I really think SOE needs to find some way to ease this contention between jedi and bounty hunters, wether it be a more clear set of rules for visibility to avoid pvp if you choose, a way to check visibility, vaulantary pvp like the gcw, or scrapp the whole bh vs jedi thing. Some thing, anything would be nice. Sorry peeps i lean more towards the jedi side of the argument. I was a bounty hunter and didnt like killing jedi too much because it just felt wrong to make them loose xp. Cant fault me for that either because thats just how i felt. Any how flame on flame on.

Then the way to avoid forced pvp is to alter your playstyle to one that doesn't generate visiblity.

thats not much of a vilid argument as no one really knows the rules 100% regarding visibility. Read the post above regarding it. If the rules were more clearly spelled out then i think you are right those that want to pvp can those that dont wont. Its that simple. No flame intended just my opinion.

Too often players and the devs have a mindset that professions should be balanced with 1 on 1 pvp in mind. This mindset is ruining the game. The benchmark for balance should be determined by the role a profession plays in a group setting. As long as the current mindset continues we will never see uniqueness among the professions, nor will we ever see individuality within a given profession. We will never see the SWG universe expanded as the focus will only ever be balance pass after balance pass after balance pass.

don't get upset at players, your anger should be directed at the developers for not having the insight to see things like this causing trouble.

Maybe the devs did think about this happening, and it was intended, who knows.

Its the players responsiblity not to exploit. You agree to abide by the TOSeverytime you log into the game.

If you believe this is anintended game mechanic to duel another player to avoid the penalty of the bounty hunter mini game then you are retarded. If you don't have the self respect to not exploit you should have your account banned.

Glad to know you know perfectly for a fact what the devs we're intending.

In my opinion it's an exploit, going by the game mechanics if fits inside the scope of what's allowed, it never goes outside the boundaries of the game mechanics.

Was this or was this not intended?

My opinion would be that it was not.

I'm not a dev. I wasn't there when they we're discussing this. I can't read minds.

It's my opinion that this is an exploit.

Only when the devs come out an say this is and exploit it will cease to not be just my opinion anymore.

The duel with his friend was started after the attack. Jedi was alone by all accounts as I saw no one else in sight My first attack failed and jedi rode away with me in chase. He got about 100+ meters away from me. I then found him and he was with his side-kick. After he told me his friend is always with him so that he can avoid Xp loss. I then dropped his mission cause it wasnt worth the time and effort to prove to him I could beat him, I already did that.

I think I will just report it and then be done with it and move on.

dude thats not a valid argument either. ive heard that over and over and over again and it solves nothing to alleviate the contention that if causes...lol Some people think its great to own other players some dont.

You still have the mission as long as the friend isn't a bh. Next time just blow his speeder with an adv. critical

The two major flaws of the system could be this. 1) its forced pvp which some people view online gaming as more of a cooperative play no matter what profession they choose to play. 2) The jedi has no incentive to stay, fight, win and has alot too loose if said jedi is not full template. Because of either of these 2 factors we will continue to see players come up with new ways to avoid pvp no matter what SOE introduces. If there is a will there is a way. Solve either of these 2 factors and i dont think we will see near as many problems. Just my oppinion though.

It is not forced PvP when you actively make the choice to play a class that was constantly PvP enabled from the start. Just using the force would PvP enable you back then. It was never forced PvP, it was players that forced the devs to make it LESS likely to be PvP enabled. But it always has been a PvP class, period.

I don't disagree about the incentive to fight. I was a low level Jedi at one time as well. And I fought, if the odds were anything resembling fair, even though it wasn't a requirement. But that's just me. I don't blame them for running. I just think it's sad that at one time, there were consequences for death. Now Jedi can do things like this because of the removal of any real consequences for dying.

My opinion is that Saber TEF's should be brought back to discourage the rampant flaunting of Jedi in public. While it doesn't directly solve the overpopulation of Jedi, you'd sure as heck see less of them. If you remember back to the day when you started seeing a lot of Jedi, it was the day saber tef's were removed.

I also think that xp loss should be reinstated for all deaths, even if you get a rez. And make it so that full template Jedi that never intend to regrind to a new template suffer as well. Make it so that they must keep a positive amount of xp, or they'll suffer hindrances to speed/accuracy/regen/forcepool/whatever. Something. Anything.

I'm tired of Jedi being coddled. I have a Jedi, and the "danger" that I and many of the others went through is no longer there. That's exactly why there are way too many running around. There's no longer any real risk, nothing compared to what there once was.

Just because you don't agree with it does not mean it isn't a valid statement. There's a reason you hear it over and over. Jedi were always meant to be PvP enabled, that's why they started off with saber tef's. Just using the force in any sense made you PvP enabled. The system is not quite so harsh now, but it was, and still is, a PvP class. Which many of you choose to play, nobody forced you to.

If you didn't want to PvP, then you should not have become a Jedi, plain and simple.

Does that alleviate any tension between Jedi and BH's? Of course not. It's not supposed to. Not everything in this game was meant to be PvE, and Jedi would be a prime example of that. Look at the way they advanced through the FRS. PvP. Now that may change in the future as well, but when you see that a large portion of the new FRS involves PvP, you'll just see that once again, SOE is telling you that Jedi were meant to be a PvP class. Maybe not all the time, but right or wrong, SOE has always made PvP part of being a Jedi. The fact that some of you don't like that really doesn't factor into it. Your opinion might be that you shouldn't have to PvP on your Jedi, but SOE has always told you something different.

abbink: I respectfully disagree. The rules of visibility are well known. If you are a jedi and you go around looking like a jedi you will eventually be givin visibility and attacked by a bounty hunter.
If you go off in the middle of nowhere and never have your saber or robes on when you get more missions, you will stand very little chance of ever getting attacked by a BH.
If you should get attacked by a BH, there are jedi skills which will allow you to escape. Namely forcerun and forecloak. There are options for getting away if you want. It's not as forced as some people say. But if you choose to walkl to the path of the jedi, then you must face great peril with courage. Complaint is not courageous, and not being a jedi is not perilous. If you don't like peril or courage, why would you chose a profession geared towards people who DO like these things?
Isn't there some UK term for fitting square pegs in round holes?

See but that just raises another question. Would it be considered greifing for a player to intentionally give someone visibility by swooping in and out of the 32m radius that is the visibility safe zone just to get said jedi on the terminals when he is trying to avoid pvp? And if said player is of the opposing faction then the jedi then all it will take is once for him to do that and the player is on the terminals. No way to try and avoid that. Greifing other players intentionally is also against the rules. Where does it stop? As i said as long as certain things remain the way they are we will continue to see "honorable" "dishonorable" players using "good tactics" "cheep tactics" while they call each other "noobs". Every time anyone brings up a senario that they feel is a problem this is what happens it becomes a flame fest. There is too much strife, contention, and hate regarding this subject. Jedi are too powerfull, jedi arent powerful enough, bh have too much of an advantage, bh dont have enough of an advantage. Its quit funny how ridiculous it can get on these forums. Gives me a chucle any way and something to read at work

First off, I feel your pain...this is not so much an exploit as it is poor gameplay tactics. But I blame SOE...everything is SO EASY TO FIX without breaking it further

In this case, make duel challenges expire after 60 seconds, second, no duel can be initiated within 5 minutes of a tef

But they can't (won't) fix the Jedi /duel "sploit", the Jedi speed bug, the KD bug, the reported Action/Mind drain bug..etc.. etc..

It's f*ken SOE man... Just have fun...move on to the next target...he's the NOOB not you
