Thread: Details of Cloak Nerf

I can speak for the Devs on this and tell you all that their vision of it was always a First/Alpha Strike tool. It was never ment to be a tool for escape and evasion. So again the Devs vision of Force Cloak is that it is a First/Alpha Strike tool.

I think a Dev, I've seen Blixtev's name being bandied around unfairly, needs to step in here and clarify what their vision of cloak is to see if it lines up with the players vision of cloak. IF a snare is working as intended, I think powers users can live with it as long as someone up the chain comes in and clarifies the devs vision for it.
I'm specifically thinking about the offensive versus defensive arguments in a couple of other threads. Many powers users I know use cloak as a defensive ability to *get away* from combat and recuperate. This is a completely legitimate use of an ability that takes you out of combat. To me, the new changes will do just that: remove the user from combat completely. I don't like the fact that a few people are using a few obscure dev quotes, without links to the original sources mind you (!!), to stir up the pot on this system change to the game's stealth invisibility rules.
I agree totally that the exploiting needs to stop and these changes will hopefully fix the worst ones. But I think the community needs more clear information instead of all the rumormongering going on right now.
Bac,
Are we to believe and expect that simply because the Jedi DEV "envisioned" a particular skill to be one way, and becuase of the game dynamics, it has evolved another way, that this is acceptable? Further, has any Dev actually tested the viability of a POwers BEING a First Strike effective template? CLearly they have not. First Strike for powers = First Dead. Perhaps whomever is behind these choices should spend more time PLAYING the game vs. "envisioning" what skills are supposed to be used for. I'm done with this discussion and if Powers gets this cloak nerf without some return love, I'll be done with this game too.
I always thought cloak wasintroduced to keep master powers users occupied while the remainder of the tree remainedbroken lol. Cloak (how it is)is a master powers only defense ability whether others admit to it or not and unless they have defender or a magical fairy watching over them then the fight will be over as quick as it began. If cloak wasintended to be used as an alpha strike ability then why didn't the devs say something soon after the cu was introduced. At least then we would know how it would eventually work and use our12hourrespec to get out of master powers. I am a master powers user and it only makes sense that we get a free respec since long ago after cu first came outwe tested the tree and determined that with cloak, if they ever got to fixing powers other abilities then the tree would be viable again.

Honestly, it doesn't look like much of a nerf at all.
Agreed Im still trying to see the real nerf to it.the only one I see (is a snare effect BUT.. you can still cloak.. you cant be targeted is the key here)..
Exactly as I have been saying Iskareot. I can live with the snare, I mean, crap, damned near every powers special roots you anyway. What I cannot abide by is the /emote, /target, /follow exploit. Unitl that is fixed, the new cloak rules for BHs = gather my friends and follow him til force runs out then kill.

They didn't mention it to us because they were too busy "envisioning" it and not testing it's viability. Powers w/cloak being Alpha strike is like a mosquito on a bull. An irritant that get's dead, quickly

I for one am extremely happy about the changes coming up, especially the snare option. I do feel for those of you who did not abuse this skill, but we all know that those of you that qualify under this are very few and far between. The majority of the time this skill is abused worse then anything seen in the past.
The reality is, you just cant have a skill like that in a game like this and expect it to be used fairly, if there is a way to screw people most will take it. I am not a fan of cloak so my opinion is going to be a bit biased, but, once again, I applaud the changes.
says The defender FTOM template...
I believed as you do until the XP nerf to too long ago.....
Now, post away, /bump the post discussing the issue you are interested in seeing discussed further or at least fully tested, let the devs know that we refuse to have broken systems in-live when they have a TC to test these "fixes" on first.

Unfortunately this will not cause the mass waves of cancellations that pub 22 produced. That is what caused their retraction of the patch NOT the whining. So unless cloakers can convince roughly 15% of the player base to cancel their accounts its moot. And as far as broken systems, lol this entire profession is completely broken, there isn't a single skill tree that does not have at least one broken line.
