Thread: Are you a Jedi? Then act like one.
Well well well.... the question is... why should anyone be treated like a Jedi if he won't keep himself as one. I surely would be glad to see "Jedi" beeing unlocked, that are anywhere near of beeing worth that title. Mostly when a new "Jedi" joins the game, it just gives us another starport-poser or otherwise ashamingly concepted "Jedi" luney toon.
Still it is a good thing to remind the community to be just that, a community - I just hope it helps.

You're just asking for the Jedi profession in general to be nerfed to no end.
Theese people attack their opponents. Jedi are their greatest opponents.
Im not saying it's ok, but I accept it as inevitable when competition is involved.
And here's another little tidbit of info: There is no such thing as a bad template.
People flock to specific templates for a reason.
Attacking minorities that rise awareness of their issues, is an attempt to prevent thoose issues from reaching proper ears.
Knocking down minorities that try to stand up is very similar to nerfing. It's a "Nothing but my template deserves help", related to "I should be the only Jedi" and "Please nerf everybody but me".
Powers is a SUPPORT TREE. It works best IN GROUPS!
Power is officiallya Ranged Damage Dealing profession.
Trying to protect your template by knocking down Wielders who tries to get fixed is not what this community should do.

haha, love each other, help each other, guide each other, understand each other, stick together etc amen.
but we created/developed our toons to kill each other, humiliate each other, steal each other's loot, cheat each other, nerf each other and in the end dominate the others. and we do this all day long either in gcw or duels/bh or in the upcoming for xmas frs.
it's natural to be divided on interest groups and to fight for GROUP's target. for example you if you would have to choose one fix to support do you think we can all agree about each one has maximum priority? by supporting my interests i am unwillingly nerfing other ppl's interests.
I'm curious: if you bought a house for 1mil and next day your neighbour buy one exactly like yours for 10k then takes your yard too, would you love him, understand him, help him, guide him?
the problem here is not to educate jedi community which is an impossible task (take a look at the real world) but to have a set of clear rules to play with. we have to know which faction is a majority, how can we support our interests in a civilized manner. these rules are unclear cause there is no voting system or election system. so we do what we think is best, post our interests and yell them as strong as we can.
we are divided. but we have common interests.
Selfish (Self"ish) (?), a.
1. Caring supremely or unduly for one's self; regarding one's own comfort, advantage, etc., in disregard, or at the expense, of those of others. "They judge of things according to their own private appetites and selfish passions." Cudworth. "In that throng of selfish hearts untrue." Keble.
2. (Ethics) Believing or teaching that the chief motives of human action are derived from gratifying one's own pleasure. "Hobbes and the selfish school of philosophers." Fleming.
3. Meanly covetous or avarcious in dealing with others; stingy.
Synonyms -- Avarcious; covetous; parsimonious; sparing; miserly; penurios; sordid; stingy. See Avaricious.

First is the old-timer hologrind Jedi. I'm gonna do this first, because, until recently, I was one to the extreme. So here's what I've realized:
Jedi is not our profession. The decisions that are made to change the game, be it the way one goes about obtaining Jedi or anything else, are not our fault, and they are not the new Jedi's fault. They are not going for Jedi because they want to torcher us and cheat us out of work. They are going for Jedi because SOE gave them the opportunity, and that's what they want to do. They pay just as much as we do and we have no right to tell them that this is not their profession just because Sony switched the system around so that it was easier. Nobody wants to hear about how we walked 15 miles in the snow up hill both ways. You want to be like the Jedi in the movies? Then be glad that new Jedi are being added to the ranks. Our profession is being strengthened and bolstered by the new Jedi, and instead of being helping hands to the new Jedi like in the movies, we are shutting down their feelings of accomplishment in becoming a Jedi, just because we're bitter than Sony changed the system.

And here's another little tidbit of info: There is no such thing as a bad template. As long as you didn't throw darts at the different skills blindfolded to choose your template, and if you know what you're doing, you can use your template to its fullest no matter what. Say you have Master Powers. You can't solo anything. Do you know why? Because trying to solo with Master Powers and saying "this tree sucks" is like trying to cut a steak with a spoon and going "f*cking spoon!" Powers is a SUPPORT TREE. It works best IN GROUPS! Healer is healing. Master Lightsaber is attack. Defender is tanking. Enhancer is enhancing your abilities and debuffing the enemy, and Powers is group support. Do you notice a pattern? Not all trees are meant to solo! If you want to solo, then grab an Enhancer/Defender template, and stop trying to eat soup with your knife!
Finally, I would like to talk about the people who tell other people that they're playing the game wrong. Just because somebody decides to take advantage of the materials Sony lays out in front of them (accidentally or not) that does not mean that you can call them exploiters, or treat them as if they are not equal to you. Everybody ends up being equal in the end. The earliest of Jedi may have had it hard with the saber TEF and permadeath, but they unlocked after 5 to 10 professions. Later unlockers may have unlocked later, but xp was easier to get then, and they still had a chance to get Premium Pearls. Post-9 Pre-10 unlockers...well...we didn't really get anything too good out of that, but I bet we were really happy when that debacle was over and we finally got our JediVillage unlockers who crusied the whole way through on double xp and AFKed and respeced, that's fine, you saw an opportunity to do less work and seized it, and I don't blame you. This whole thing about being "honorable" is so fake that it's almost funny. I don't know if you guys realize, but the difference between being a disrespectful player and the most honorable Jedi on the server is being at the computer to double click on the creatures. That's right. Two mouse clicks. That's what seperates an honorable kill with a dishonorable kill apparently. Yes, they got an easy ride through, but you know what? They probably weren't as satisfied when they got their Jedi. No matter how bad you have it compared to anybody else, you will always be repaid with the satisfaction of earning something through hard work.
So there it is. I doubt this will end everything once and for all though. Hey, who knows. It could get stickied, to remind us all that we are Jedi, and we should start acting like it.![]()

Damn straight. Any template is viable if you use it right. Personally I don't have a single master box, Most people laugh until they are lying on their back. Its all about knowing what you can and can't do.
Hell yes! I have no master boxes either, neither do I have more than 3 branches in any of the sub profs. And when I tell this, people laugh at me(just like you say) and they learn the error of underestimating. However I have crappy pearls and can not compete with most Jedi. When I get my hands on two more premiums and tune them good...only PvP maniacs will have chance againts me ![]()
Some pre-cu and pre-revamp Jedi tell me I don't have the smallest clue as to how to use the skills I earn coz all I had to do is hit a creature once or sleep while toon afk grinds...But they forget the fact I grinded half of my template before the no-grp-vis came and I went down into deep holes several times. And everyday,as I grinded and BH came for me more than a few times,I learned touse my skills. If any Bounty Hunter is able to kill me now,it's because I choose not to save a$$ with cloak and stand to fight. Thus force going down to zero and I die.If I had better pearls, that wouldn't happen either. As a side note : PvE(especially since CU) does not teach you how to PvP.Instead,as it is the way it should be according to logic,PvP teaches you how to PvP.But I don't think those people who say they are better bc of their skills at using their template and not their pearls will face the fact that I am right. As they are way too jealous of us new Jedi getting full temp far easier than they did and will continue to spam nonesense such as ' I grinded alone,I learned my skills as I grinded from one box to another slowly'...heh...

The last part is what I have issue with. I agree in the context that you lay out and I believeyou are referring to the old/new grind argument. What I have issue with is the wording of acceptable to use anything SOE lays in front and stating it is wrong for the community to Not cry foul. Examples /duel exploit currently used by the Jedi side of the BH/Jedi relationship. The AOE intimidate exploit fixed last patch. Stacking of sabers. Use of 3rd party speed programs(to which there are watchdog programs that SOE could be using to stem the tide of these) To state I must be silent because SOE placed these and other bugs in the game and therefore I am just using what is there is wrong. If I see a "spoon" used as a weaponlike a "knife"( using your powers analogies) and it clearly was never intended to be used as a knife then I not only have the right but obligation to bring it to the forums and get it out there. SOE has failed miserably at answering exploitation concerns. One only has to see who did the footwork for the AOE intimidate bug findings and getting it fixed. Silence will only perpetuate the problem and create unbalance not equality.
Overall a well thought out and great post. With that said we must remember that we are viewed by many that do not choose to go our path and statments that it is ok to use whatever is laid in front of us without consequence or scrutiny diminishes the perceptions of an already tarnished subset of the overall community.
Statements like this should come from Developers,CSRs,or Corrospondents. It is sad you had to do there work.I commend you on your thoughts.
