Thread: If SWG was sci fi but not Star Wars, would you be playing right now?

The problem for Jedi is, they were extremely powerful individuals in the movies. If they were to be true to the movies, (like jedi were pre CU, with all the block they had) hardly anyone could kill them. That doesn't translate into a good gaming experience. There are no good answers, either for sake of game play, they make Jedi weak, or for sake of "cannon" they make Jedi powerful, there doesn't appear to be any win-win solutions.

Yeah, unfortunately, they keep re-inventing this game, and not really moving it forward. For the most part the game is pretty much the same today as it was when it launched, only now we have a completely re-invented combat system that really wasn't needed, and the same results could have been achieved by tweaking the old system. But, as a game stand point of view, you are doing the exact same thing today, as you did 2 years ago (just doing them in a slightly different manner). I kinda wonder if this is there goal, to keep people playing, by constant changes, and never really adding anything new to the game. Just think of all the things they could have done, if the resources they dedicated to the CU was for an expanion? I presonally feel the CU is ok, but, like I said, the same results could have been achieved in the old system. So, I feel I have been a rat in a cage, running in one of those circle things for last 2 years.

No.

I would have never started if it weren't Star Wars. This is my first and last MMORPG. If they do a SWG2 it'll have to be what this game never became with the lessons learned for me to play. I hope the FRS is good.

The overwhelming negative response to this question should tell them something. The game does not stand on its own.

absolutley not

before sw:g i was already into both eq and uo and enjoyed them both alot. i only came to sw:g cause im a star wars fan, and that is the only real reason i have stayed this long. swg was fun in the begining, but after the combat upgrade it all went to the crapper. now i am so glad to have gotten the station pass cause im really into eqII and matrix.

its so sad that i find the matrix more fun than a game titled star wars galaxies, wierd.

Nope

Edit: SWG used to have something unique but now that it is a clone why would anyone play this one when the others have less bugs?

i do not agree in extremely powerful individual can not co-exist with MMORPG and bring bad experience only new ideas has not been put into action:

let say jedi is in 8:1 compare with normal profession,

1)u can have 8 bhs grouped together to hunt this 10k hp player jedi. just like grinding in MO, if 8 player bh group together can pull 16 player jedi mission to hunt all nite.yea this 10k hp player jedi will have super loot drop and the mission also pay the bhs for finishing the job and maybe bh ranking system as reward, like XXX has kill 10 jedis, everyone can see it ingame just like poi and professions bages. i just don't see why killing a npc gives u great loot but killing a player should not. the player jedi got himself killed by bhs will loss xp, and neg xp.

2)or npc chars like "guildwars"will help u hunt player jedi. same rewards and xp loss apply to bh and jedi.

to me, a strong believe is one of the most powefull driving force for ppl to achieve goal. SOE has killed the "believe" in every starwars fans mind that jedi is strong andour interest to become a jedi, especially after neither 30 professions grinding and 6 months FS quests. why the hell do i want to be a weak jedi? i just cancel my account. no 2nd thoughts. think how many ppl who unlock jedi still stay ingamethink this way??? everyone i know think like this, they have nothing to do after reaching jedi knight. they just cancel account and wait for next new thing to come.

u may say super strong jedi will end up camping all the loots, overpower everyone and make non-jedi leave the game, has a bad effecton swg eco...etc, swg eco is already broken, ppl getting money 2 easy for high lvl, really hard for new player... no for hardcore player it is way 2 easy, for casual players like 8hrs a week, u r just telling them to not playing this game cos, u will not get your jedi and all the kool stuffs in this game, u just WILL NOT get them by playing 8hrs a week. don't tell me nothing about EQ2, it is just total bad game design. the design really think ppl sick enough to play a game as a full-time job. samething in all SOE produces.

my solution in super strong jedi char being overpowered is to bring them new places and contents only obtainableby jedi. make them won't even look at the what we call great loot like GDK, RIS armor, jetpack. if jedi do go camp these loot, apply rules like 1/10th chance when jedi is trying to loot, cos they r killing the mob 10times faster than a 80cl or just apply loot timer to jedi. if jedi ranking systemfor becoming a jedi master is gd and full of new contents for the jedi race, fool will go for loots which u have 1/10th chance compare to normal professions. make it 1/20th chance if needed. yes, jedi will be the richest race exist cos there is part of the game is only avaible to them, the fact is that everyone want to be jedi, just a fact. the reason why not everyone is jedi is how SOE make the jedi path bad. i think it will always be, don't u think it is not happening now when all jedi alt is bh hunting the jedi ca??? in fact, hardcore gamers will always be richest. but can u make itmore only ppl with BRAINS could achieve???sellingca for 20mil when u can get 5 of them in 2 days is not a gd thing to the game. yeah that need some work right, i will not expect nothing from SOE.

It's not like SOE normally pays attention to the overwhelming negative response from their customers. Look at ToOW... over 1000 messages, mostly negative and no real response. The only reason they responded to the XP Nerf outcry was because folks started cancelling accounts left and right.

SOE needs to get its act together. WoW has over 4 million subscribers, 16x SWG (and that's not accounting for the most recent exodus) when SWG has the best "universe" license anywhere and WoW is a generic fantasy universe. SOE needs to get on the ball with quality and make this game for Star Wars fans and not alpha g4m3r d00ds.

Eh hard to reply when you reply inside my quote but I am including the Jedi grind. Even after you are done grinding you are supposed to grind FSXP. Even loot is ridiculous, there's no set spawn time there's nothing to camp, there's just endless killing with no drops = grinding still.

Now, are you talking about EQ or EQ2? Because there was no xp loss upon death in Everquest. If you are talking about EQ2, which you must be, I've heard EQ2 is more like a job than even SWG, hence why I am not playing it. (Plus it's by SoE and I'm never playing another SoE game again, which is why I also won't play The Matrix Online.)

And pre-CU this game was very difficult to grind, as someone who did 20+ profesisons I can attest to this.

Post-CU is pretty fast, but this game is the grind in the sense that once you get CL 80 what is left for you to do? Hunt Jedi? (As a BH), do broken quests, grind high level mobs in hope of getting loot although none drops anymore. Do the village? All of those require grinding.

There is nothing similar to questing with your guild to kill an uber mob except at the DWB, but there's no point to questing the DWB because the loot drop rate is 1%.

Yes I was referring to Everquest 1 and yes..there is experience loss upon death. At level 10 you have to start going back to retrieve your items from your corpse and then at level 11 you start to lose experience on top of that. If you lose enough experience due to death you -will- drop in level, I know because I had just gotten level 11 with one of my characters when I first started playing that game and I died in Blackburrow, I lost enough xp with that death to drop me back down to level 10...the higher level you are the more experience you lose. Now, granted it might have changed since you played but I was playing it only six months ago and you still lost experience by death then.

"When Sony and Lucas set out, we said, 'How can we do this and not make another EQ?' We didn't want it to be all about Luke, or combat, or lock our players into a class. So we created a system that would allow players to switch professions during the game, and there would be a lot of gameplay around making that change. If you want to go from architect to scout we've created a system to make that happen." - Julio Torres
