Thread: If SWG was sci fi but not Star Wars, would you be playing right now?
The problem for Jedi is, they were extremely powerful individuals in the movies. If they were to be true to the movies, (like jedi were pre CU, with all the block they had) hardly anyone could kill them. That doesn't translate into a good gaming experience. There are no good answers, either for sake of game play, they make Jedi weak, or for sake of "cannon" they make Jedi powerful, there doesn't appear to be any win-win solutions.

Yeah, unfortunately, they keep re-inventing this game, and not really moving it forward. For the most part the game is pretty much the same today as it was when it launched, only now we have a completely re-invented combat system that really wasn't needed, and the same results could have been achieved by tweaking the old system. But, as a game stand point of view, you are doing the exact same thing today, as you did 2 years ago (just doing them in a slightly different manner). I kinda wonder if this is there goal, to keep people playing, by constant changes, and never really adding anything new to the game. Just think of all the things they could have done, if the resources they dedicated to the CU was for an expanion? I presonally feel the CU is ok, but, like I said, the same results could have been achieved in the old system. So, I feel I have been a rat in a cage, running in one of those circle things for last 2 years.

No.
I would have never started if it weren't Star Wars. This is my first and last MMORPG. If they do a SWG2 it'll have to be what this game never became with the lessons learned for me to play. I hope the FRS is good.
The overwhelming negative response to this question should tell them something. The game does not stand on its own.
absolutley not
before sw:g i was already into both eq and uo and enjoyed them both alot. i only came to sw:g cause im a star wars fan, and that is the only real reason i have stayed this long. swg was fun in the begining, but after the combat upgrade it all went to the crapper. now i am so glad to have gotten the station pass cause im really into eqII and matrix.
its so sad that i find the matrix more fun than a game titled star wars galaxies, wierd.
Edit: SWG used to have something unique but now that it is a clone why would anyone play this one when the others have less bugs?

It's not like SOE normally pays attention to the overwhelming negative response from their customers. Look at ToOW... over 1000 messages, mostly negative and no real response. The only reason they responded to the XP Nerf outcry was because folks started cancelling accounts left and right.
SOE needs to get its act together. WoW has over 4 million subscribers, 16x SWG (and that's not accounting for the most recent exodus) when SWG has the best "universe" license anywhere and WoW is a generic fantasy universe. SOE needs to get on the ball with quality and make this game for Star Wars fans and not alpha g4m3r d00ds.
Yes I was referring to Everquest 1 and yes..there is experience loss upon death. At level 10 you have to start going back to retrieve your items from your corpse and then at level 11 you start to lose experience on top of that. If you lose enough experience due to death you -will- drop in level, I know because I had just gotten level 11 with one of my characters when I first started playing that game and I died in Blackburrow, I lost enough xp with that death to drop me back down to level 10...the higher level you are the more experience you lose. Now, granted it might have changed since you played but I was playing it only six months ago and you still lost experience by death then.

Eh hard to reply when you reply inside my quote but I am including the Jedi grind. Even after you are done grinding you are supposed to grind FSXP. Even loot is ridiculous, there's no set spawn time there's nothing to camp, there's just endless killing with no drops = grinding still.
Now, are you talking about EQ or EQ2? Because there was no xp loss upon death in Everquest. If you are talking about EQ2, which you must be, I've heard EQ2 is more like a job than even SWG, hence why I am not playing it. (Plus it's by SoE and I'm never playing another SoE game again, which is why I also won't play The Matrix Online.)
And pre-CU this game was very difficult to grind, as someone who did 20+ profesisons I can attest to this.
Post-CU is pretty fast, but this game is the grind in the sense that once you get CL 80 what is left for you to do? Hunt Jedi? (As a BH), do broken quests, grind high level mobs in hope of getting loot although none drops anymore. Do the village? All of those require grinding.
There is nothing similar to questing with your guild to kill an uber mob except at the DWB, but there's no point to questing the DWB because the loot drop rate is 1%.
