Thread: what's a carebear?

Yes you do. You want to force your style of gameplay on everyone else.
then you are specifically referring to bounty hunters.
Let me ask you this then, what would you do, also if the devs said you are perma over as an elder jedi to others who are of opposite (jedi) faction? What?
What the ******* **** do you mean with "trying to force my game play style" on others when I request forced-pvp to be removed?

As you've read there are many definitions of carebear as used in mmorpg's.And many definitions of griefer and the opposites. But lets clear the air.The term first started coming into use with the first commercially successful mmorpg Ultima Online. The entire world outside of guard protected cities was full on pvp.The game manuals told you that outside of town you were attackable be anyone and everyone.**hrmm sounds like old Jedi**Within the community of players the population that didn't want pvp posted, emailed, snail mailed, phoned devs to get the game changed to the way they like to play. The result was a "mirrored" world that was consensual pvp only, but the old world and old ways still prevailed for those that liked it that way.It was coined carebear land and so were it's residents. You see both sides "carebears and hardcore pvp elites" are very similar in that they are both ego driven andwant it their way irregardless of the detriment to the other side.In Ultima Online the "hardcore pvp'er elites" lost theunlimited supply of helplessvictims. While the "carebears" got everything for free and without risk their fame dwindled soon as everyone and anyone could have the same things they did with putting in the time. You see it kills the carebears ego when they are posing at the local hotspot and everyone else has the same L33t items just as it kills the ego of the hardcore elite pvp'er that now dies more often because his selection of victims is limited to others who "want" to pvp.In mmorpg's carebears are not people who want the game to be fun and fair for all. They want the game to be their way, which they assume is the way everyone wants it to be or should want it to be.You see theycan be as malicious and slanderous as their counterparts but in their eyes it's justified because the other views are from the dark side. evil ones.Just note the fact that many carebears and hardcore pvp'er elites toss out gender and age stereotyping one in the same. They both think they are justified my their means.Message Edited by FSCSexplorer on 11-03-2005 07:33 PM

How droll... people that want the choice to PvP or not are forcing their gameplay on to the PvP crowd? How? PvPers can still go PvP all they want. Problem is, that's not what they want or they would have been SF already.
This is exactly what happened in UO, Trammel opened and 90% of the population moved there. All the reds hung out in Felucca and moped because the only people they had to fight were people that were prepared for PvP, and that's not what they wanted. They wanted to hunt miners, or to be able to jump someone engaged in combat with a tough Mob. Gee... that sounds familiar.
there's a very easy and fast way to find falseness within a generalizedstatement about people. If you see the word all it's 99.9% of the time going to be wrong.
I stated this myself previously that those are the pvp extremists but not all UO pvp'ers were this way. Neither are All the BH's in SWG.
One can log into UO todayand go to the many pvp hotspotswhere people are enjoying themselves battling each other.
Unlike SWGwhere I cannot pvp all day long and gain skill from using my characters abilities.
On the flip sideone can log in and not be bothered with pvp, one can roleplay and pve ifone so desires.
Again, it's a Company decision on if they are willing to lose subscriptions by omitting play style options.
Whether it be losing roleplayers, pve'ers or pvp'ers.
UO is the perfect example of offering all play style choices.
Yes they suffered in the beginning of not knowing exactly what players would want but that's what happens when you're a Pioneer and not a follower.
There's 8 years running of their mmorpg prove that it's a successful business model and successful to the mmorpg player base choices.
You can try to be indignant about it all you want, but if you're a PvPer no one is forcing their playstyle on you. You're just not able to force others anymore.
Can you show me where I can level my Jedi at Padawan through pvp?
hence my playstyle has been stifled by those that wish to force their playstyle onto me.
But you miss the entire point of my post and I'll try to make it simple yet again.
You see people like you and the others automatically criticize my posts and label me as a PVP'er who wants ot force my way onto everyone.
But read my posts and you'll see I loathe both the extremists of carebears and L33t pvp'ers.
The only thing I wish to force on mmorpg communities is equality of game play options.
For example, in SWG I can roleplay, and Ican pve my Jedi but there is no game mechanics for me to pvp with a Padawan and gain skill.
Do you and others like you honestly believe that it is fair you can have game play your way but I cannot have it my way ?
If so then you do not want fair equal game play for all. You only want the game to be played the way you desire it to be.
I also do not believe in a pvp /GCW switch. You're either in or you're out.
Do you really think it's ok for someone to go whack your faction members with there being no risk nor possible retribution ?
Again read this post if you don't want to go back and read others of mine.
I state in here that I do enjoy all of what you enjoy in SWG but I also enjoy additional game play.
Nowhere do I advocate pvp only, I advocate fair equal gameplay for all.
