Surviving the Bounty Hunter: Preparation for the fight!
The Key to surviving a bh attack is preparation! Know your opponents and know yourself.
- Even if you are new to the jedi profession you should still be able to sense when you are vulnerable. Be on guard during these times. Make a plan. If I get attacked with 1/4 force or low health what can I do?
- Know your template. Practice your skills. Now with the group vis changes you can duel to practice without gaining vis. Use this, ask questions and find the combinations that work for you! Go to endor, with a bh friend, its not overly populated and not visited often. Start your duel at range. BH strikes first, and learn from your experience VIS free
Treat it like its real, use foods and fight til the incap! Don't let them hold back, a real bh will not be merciful!
- Some skills are worth their weight in gold. If you have the stomach for it I recommend you pick up enhancer 3000 or at least 2000 instead of the channel line. Many will disagree with this due to the lack of channel. But the reasoning is simple, nearly all jedi have transfer force and your friends can help you out in a jam. The force run 1 and force suppression (root) is key in pvp. You are infinitely more difficult to kite and you can root if you are rooted as well to keep an attacker in range. PLUS you get force speed 2. GREAT skill for buffing yourself in the field. When the cm's debuff for -40 speed getting half of that back is the key to beating them.
- Look at the combinations that BH's use to fight jedi, what does each template have? What should I expect? Experience will tell you where you stand against each and how you must fight them or if you simply are overmatched.
Use your radar as a weapon! You know the bh is coming, you see his dot, act on this info!
- When you see the dot use the radar to get the name, then /tar and then /ex. Look at the possible template and badges. Information saves your life. Also, check to make sure its at least a CL of65 (unless you are under that level) before you get jumpy. Not all successful bh's are CL 80's some with great weapons can be dabblers so make sure you don't blow off that CL 76 firing at you.
- Communicate with your group! Group chat, Guild Chat, TS, Vent, whatever you use let them know you have someone coming, the jedi can prepare and help each other, if my friend gets attacked, I'll pull the aggro for him, now he can fight or run without having to worry or vice-versa. Encourage each other, you can beat many bh's if you have the will to fight, don't be scared!
- If you are not currently vulnerable CHARGE!!! the bh! This does two VERY important things for you first it gets you into melee range before he attacks you. Second the mental edge belongs to you now. Bh's are not used to being charged by jedi, most jedi will run (and you should still run if you are vulnerable) this leads to mistakes on the BH's part and even fear (you aren't afraid of them their edge is gone!), and the first strike advantage is gone. Now you control the fight, if they attack you they are vulnerable!
- If you find yourself in a vulnerable position now is the time to enact your plan. Are you going to run? Cloak? Let a mob kill you? Whatever you decided ondo itnow, before you get tefed. More on that later.
Vulnerability
- You are out soloing a krayt or other mob(maybe not even a high level one but enough of a threat to be a problem added to a bh attack)OR LOW ON FORCEyou need to have a plan.
- Run to a nearby house (risky if you don't make you will probably die and if you need to set up a house while grinding you probably aren't ready to defend yourself anyway).
- Get to a lake (watch out for combat droids and bomb droids, also you might still be attackable).
- Let a nearby MOB kill you (possibly the best solution if you are low on force or health, you will lose PVP rating, who cares?, but you will not lose xp).
- Force Run! (fast lol).
- Or Cloak but this might not be the best way to avoid a bh, suggestions from powers users are welcomed.
- Don't panic, you have time and heals. Use your brain, you can find somewhere to go, or just run!
Foods
- The KEY to winning will be your food buffs. They will keep your action and mind high enough to fight until the bh is dead.
- I use MS. Nil's food combo's
- Booster BLue
- Piketta Pie
- Vagnarian Canape
- Breath of Heaven
- Crispic
- Vegaparsine
- Its very useful to have a bh macro or a panic macro for bh encounters.
This is a useful macro for activating and being ready to fight:
Name: BHbuff
/ui action toolbarPane00; (thats for the first bar 01 would be the second...)
/ui action toolbarSlot00; (again the second would be 01 repeat to XX)
/ui action toolbarSlotXX; (however many for the foods you need)
/ui action toolBar01 (this is for the toolbar with your combat icons, it switches back after using the foods)
***** Fixed the macro, I didn't notice that I had not done it correctly until Atobe pointed it out, thanks!
A macro for force aura is useful as well, even infusion.
Name: auramacro
/force aura self;
/pause 47.5; (check the time to make sure its right)
/macro auramacro
Name: infusionmacro
/force infusion self;
/pause (25 for the basic 45? for the advanced);
/macro infusionmacro
Now tie it all together in a macro to ease preparation.
Name: BHmacro
/dump; (to make sure you don't have Multiple macros dropping your force)
/follow; (have the bh targeted BEFORE you activate this macro)
/macro BHbuff;
/macro auramacro;
/macro infusionmacro
Place this macro on your toolbar, it will save your life if you are caught off guard. When you hit it you havea few seconds to compose yourself and then bam you are in the fight. ALWAYS target the bh first! and DO NOT ACTIVATE THE MACRO UNTIL YOU ARE SHOT. Any decent bh would see your food and comeback on your downer. Make them commit to the fight before you do. Then you have them, and they might run from you!
Combat tactics
- Your template will determine how you need to fight as only through experience will you learn your limitations.
- My template is MLS/MDEF Enhancer 3000 Healer 2000
- I am very offensive minded with this template and rarely heal. With aura, infusion, force speed, and force run, I'm nearly unkitable. I recommend it if you like to dish out the damage and survive to admire your work. Lack of channel means down time, but power comes with a price. Always carry a holocron in emergencies.
- Feel free to post tips with other templates, as I only know mine and I do not wish to change it
- Armor break!!!! Even if they have the 75% slice this is important, you need to maximize your damage to force ratio to win. Even the mega healing bh's will run out of stomach or mind before you run out of force. Stick with it don't forget this skill!
- If they have cybernetic arms target them! A bh with ranged arms has NO armor protection on that part of his body, if you have body hit, use it! You have a chance to hit that unprotected area an that might sway the battle with an uber healer.
- Watch your combat log! Look at their attacks, and how much you hit with at each part, if you notice his helmet is not as strong make sure you head hit! Same for arms or legs, find the weak spot!
- Watch during grinding, when you see that RED player name, you know you are being bh'ed. Normally you will see them coming but we are not infallable. Be alert.
- Look at their attacks and healing values. If they are using high damage specials watch their action when it gets low, their offensive volley is over. Time to kick assthen KD for maxium damage.
- If you are being hit by a covered rifleman, don't charge him. Simply move outside his range, if he crawls to follow you it will take forever and your tef will evaporate leaving you free to fleeor he will be forced to reveal his position. A psg can indicate the direction the attack is coming from.
- A good PSG can be a lifesaver without much defender. I don't use one because I have a socketed belt, but the damage reduction and animation help in a fight. Use the animation to find that bh in a crowd.
- ALWAYS HAVE A HOLOCRON FOR EMERGENCIES!
BH Templates: What to expect
As far as BH templates go, they all have their strengths and weakness's, just like any Jedi template does.
Concerning the MBH/MCM build:
This build is designed to take down the MLS/MDEF templates and their variantssimply by wearing down the Jedi. Tactics employed are often a root oustide of melee attack range, followed by Debuffs, and then kiting the Jedi. By applying the debuffs, the BH has effecively reduced your DPS to the point he can easily out heal it, and forced you into the defensive having to heal, and attempts to drain force and or action/mind.
The MBH/MP 4000 CM build is designed to wear the Jedi down as well, but in a differtent manner. Instead of debuffs, high DPS and kiting is used to again force the Jedi into healing, and using other powers to drain force action and mind.
I find the MBH/MP 4000 CM build to be a very powerful one, but I would not necessarily argue it is more powerful than the MBH/MCM template. It just employes slightly different tactics to kill the jedi.
That being said, it is again true that virtually all Anti Jedi BH templates are built around defeating MLS and MDEF templates or their varients. Which makes sense since, at least 90% of the Jedi out there employ one of these templates.
A particularly nasty Jedi template aginst these BHs is a MPowers template that employes at least 3000 enhancer and 0400 sabers. Powers are capable of bypassing the BHs armor, and his PSG. Only mitigated by his ranged defense bonuses. Lightning does get a boost from AB however, since it does elmental damage, and that does not bypass the armor. Choke however gets no bonus from AB, although it does from a KD.
The simplest way to beat these BH's is using a MPowers template. A BH really does not expect to be instantly choked the second he applies his first debuff. The ranged attacks, and DOT with choke allow you to put the BH on the defensive rather than having them dictate the fight. The BH will be able to keep up with the heals, for a short while, but you will drain him fast.
They key to winning is to put the BH on the defensive for the fight. Make him the one forced to run, make him the one forced to spam heals.
-Thanks Dun-Edea
MBH/MRifles is all about dropping the jedi hard n fast. Especially with sniper shot. If worse comes to worse you can outlast most jedis force pool. Specially if their not wielding a preCu perfect saber or something near it.
-Thanks Gillik
In conculsion preperation for the battle is the most important thing to stay alive. When you are ready for bh's and charge them, you have the advantage. Use it, most bh's are not exceptional pvp'ers. However, some are. You will learn the ones on your server you need to avoid or switch up your tactics. Remember, if you do not lose XP, you win! If that means DBing the bh or running, you are deciding what is best for you. Don't be suckered to fight if you feel you can't win. You aren't their content and when you are stronger you might even feel they are yours!
Goodluck, may the force be with you!
Suggestions welcomed!

Steegee wrote:-My personal fav.... make allies with powerful friends. For example, when i'm on dathomir i hardly have to worry bout BHs. Why? Well i have 5k positive faction with SMC and NS. They can be very powerful allies. If you have them as friends you can run in the middle of them and let them agro the bh. A well placed root, your saber, and the melee help of 2 or more lvl 80+ npcs can change the odds tramatically. Keep in mind the next patch will give these npcs force powers again.The best way to gain both smc and ns as allies is to kill ns first, untill you get positive smc faction. Then head to the spider clan cave and kill them. They should give you positive ns faction. No need to worry about spider clan npcs attacking you out in the wilds of dath, they only reside in their poi cave.
or you do it the other way, make them enemies, they will deathblow you befor the bounty hunter can do.
Since I finished my teamplate I never die vs a Bh, FR1 is so useful with that skill tiroid ruptur do nothing to me and I can hit the Bh without dmg penality like the FR2 or 3. The root is really great to keep the Bh in melee and stop it when he run around you. Every combat I heal my self like 2 or 3 times per combat, with force infusion 2 DOTs did no dmg to me but they just slowdown my life regen.
My biggest problem is not really the knock down slide but my "uber" saber (450-550 dmg around 240 dps based), so when my knock down slide, the only thing I want to do it's throw my cpu on my wall cuz I lost the only chance to do a great dmg (with AB on the BH).
try this to avoid the kd slide
Get your armor break on the bh then, root him.
If you don't kill him outright with this flurry of offense, KD with 2 seconds left on your root, and bang.
You know where he is, and he will not slide. You should be able to get the incap like this.
It might take a few tries and you might get knocked down first but be patient.
Secondly I've never run out of force as a full template, whats the FC on your saber and how long has the fight lasted? My longest fight was 14 minutes.
My FCis pretty high (19) but thats because all of my pearls are 100+ damage with -8, -8, -9, -2
But min damage is more important than FC to me.
