Thread: AI what's the purpose after the ToOW nerf?

It simply prevents players from soloing things they shouldn't be able to.

Nothing has changed with it in PvP, and nothing has changed with it in groups. A Master Defender can still AI, and stay conscious protecting their group members. I tested it out today, and it works just fine.

So, what are you "soloing" thats your not meant to?

Also, how do you define "protecting" your group members?

Genuine questions, as I have not tested it

Some posters hereseem to be missing a major point... AI will cause a mob(s) to drop aggro only if there is someone else it can attack.

I use AI when I'm almost toast, currently it holds back the floodgates of damage on my teammates until they can get some heals going and re-focus the team roles back to doing some damage. I use AI, and the whole team lives. If using it drops agro, the mob won't +Retreat+ (don't know where this idea came from)... it will attack my teammates, who thereby have to defend themselves, shifting their focus to doing my job instead of theirs!! They'll go down fast to something I have to AI against. That leaves me standing there in a sea of my friends' bodies -- that is until they're all incapped/dead, and then the mob(s) will turn their attention back to me, AI or no AI, and I've just gimped my Force pool by 1000 points. I will have been able to heal, but to what end?

Dominate mindwould likely beuseful in offsetting the aggro drop as long as it's only one mob/NPC that we're fighting, though it's currently unknown if itwill override the aggro drop. I can't Area Dominate Mind a whole lair of pikets or troop of battledroids (though that's not a bad suggestion as a Master ability!).

It won't help me solo stuff better, because the mob will continue to attack me if there's nobody else to attack.

It's usefulness in PvP is questionable -- I won't say useless, but situations where it is useful are not in the majority.

It would actually be better if I didn't use AI.. the result would be the same (my teammates take the brunt of the attack I was tanking) but it doesn't cost me 1000 Force, and getting incapped definitely drops aggro. If the mob(s) deathblows the results are inevitable whether I use it or not -- currently it would save the whole team in this situation.

Somebody said they wanted to get rid of spingroups, but that is simply ridiculous. In the Game Guides forum is an excellent post on spingroups, and in that thread Thunderheart himself heartily recommends them as a quick way to change templates.

I suggest adding another ability to MDef, and that's the ability to rez. Because when I hit AI, I suspect it'll be the case where I'll live, but my team is screwed. At least if I can rez it'll make up for dumping all the aggro on them and maybeI'll get invited back next time.

The SWG Forums. You will never find a more wretched hive of
catassery and buttmonkeyism. We must be cautious.

If AI was supposed to be an escape move it would not have a snare, it is really that simple. (maybe dmg reduction to balance it out).. I do not believe that developers are stupid enough to think that an escape move like that would actually work. The class is called defender, the name says it all. Do you really think their master level move costing 1000f is supposed to be a crappier version of feign death...to get away...Are you crazy ??

I am beginning to wonder if defender was not specifically targeted, and this is just a side effect of better AI for npcs, where they realize that they are not hurting you so they switch over to the next person. Result is still the same.

Feign death is an escape move. It is also an automatic self-knockdown move but it works as an escape. Let me explain again slowly. You don't just use it standing in the middle of the lair--you may need to actually do some thinking in an AOE group to do this. When you draw aggro, move away from the lair. NPC's have extremely bad memory and even worse eyesight. UseAI only when you want to avoidincap. If your target retreats, you can heal yourself and go back to the battle. If they don't, you're avoiding incap and should also be able to heal yourself and continue the fight. Seeing as Jedi is a melee profession, a snare shouldn't matter that much if you're just using it to tank anyway.
