I'd say economics 101, but this is so basic...
If it's rare and in demand, 3 things can occur: prices go up, or more people supply it.
The thing about some rare loots is that it means some things are special. Makes for a little bit of diversity.
Between mining, vet rewards, hunting, and a nice paycheck, my house has very interesting decorations. I get compliments from people visiting...But if this stuff was more readliy available, not only would I have something to show off, buit people would get bored.
A year ago, 2 Jedi dueling in Theed for fun would draw crowds. Conversations would stop, the shuttles would arrive full and depart empty. This was true for months; every saber fight drew interest, the novolty was always there.
Now, no one gives a **edit**, not because of the length of time jedi have been around but because of the prevailance of sabers.
Besides, it's not like anyone needs that loot anyway... Some are handy, some are decorative, and some (like recyclers) that are convenient end up being money losers... (not that I'd trade away my recyclers). But none are really needed. So why complain about greed for rare luxury items? IRL, do you complain about the cost of ferraris while at a Ford dealership?

Let's be serious now.
What is TIgg's job?
Public Relations.
She's paid to lie. It's what she has been hired to do. It's what all PR persons do.
It's not her fault. She doesn't set the policies, she just has to make an effort to defend them that will be enough to satisfy the greedy twits in suits who hired her in the first place.
I agree with everything else you've written...I dare say that you could pick 20 players at random, on any server, and get a better prediciton of what will be a FOTM than the devs can make. Because it's been painfully obvious for quite some time that the devs simply do not play the game. Too many things are wrong with it to conclude otherwise.
I've held a number of jobs where part of my duties was quality control. It made me a PITA in the office for my co workers, sometimes, when I'd point out to them that this is BROKEN, the customers know it's broken, and they will vote with their walllets if you don't address it. If the co workers had any professional pride, they'd respond positively. They knew I was right. On the other hand, if they were there just to collect a paycheck...
No one seems to be doing that consistently at SWG. Blixtex shows some signs of it from time to time, the BH loot revamp is a good example of him being in the game, noticing how things were lame, and doing something about it, but the tragedy ishis bosses apparently didn't notice it and didn't direct him to do it, he did it on his own, on his own time. If it wasn't for his initiative, nothing would have been done. Management obviously does not give a womp rat's ass about it. They're busy playing WoW and stealing ideas form it to impose on SWG.

Want to know how sad the Lowca population is? All I have to do is grab a mission from a bh term, shuttle to MO and 1/3 times I only have to press tab to find my jedi. I don't ever consider going to Coreilla, pretty much just the MO, Naboo, and Lok.
All I see there is We Dont Know
