From what I understand they put the toow beta as the patch that went out, which, since it was in TC had the FRS.. and if thats the case, then the old FRS system was sent out as well... which is why they are probally taking things down and trying to take care of this before too many people go OMG FRS!

The problem with that method of testing is that the shrine that you need to start your trials is UNIQUE per character.
The trials message will tell you to "Find your shrine on planet so and so"
So to test this properly you need to go to EVERY shrine on ALL the planets.
Yes, you get a system message the says that you are ready to begin the trials. I was on my third or fourth trial at the CU, whenI looged in I got no message. I asked a pre-CU knight guildmate the check his force progression tree, he says nothing has changed.
Why not change the subject line of this thread to stop the confusion. Pulling a prank like this is immature, will cause more problems than you will get satisfaction from, and simply discredits you to the community as a whole.

On the note about your friend viewing his tree, up until now I have not even bothered looking at my professions list on my jedi. Was your friend able to see the FRS Skill tree even after the CU?
How about this for a rumor (with no proof to back it up of course).
Perhaps the shrine won't be the key to the new FRS. The answer may be on Mustafar.
