Thread: After 2 years, how can a game be this broke, and barely playable?

Don't let the people that tell you just to leave without protest bother you, because in reality they are the ones that actually care about this game less than you do and have allowed it to sink so low through their lower expectations. They're tools, who will take whatever SoE gives them or the lack thereof, and are simply deluding themselves.
The truth is the numbers do not lie. SWG has less subscribers than the original EQ, which has been around for many years. SWG should have at least a half million subscribers still, but if this game was even half as stellar as WoW, SWG would have well over a million subscribers still.
SWG was released at a time that couldn't have been better for a Star Wars related game, during the release of the Prequels,, when a game developer takes advantage of the soaring popularity of Star Wars AND puts out a great game look at what can happen, for instance the success of KOTOR.
So here is the funny thing for those of you telling us who are discontent with the game to leave. We are. We're leaving and taking our friends with us too. We're finding somewhere where the developers care about our experience and not just our subscription fee. Because after all the gaming experience is the only thing that justifies having to pay a subscription fee.
Those who say: "Quit Already" will soon see their wishes realized while they play on the low population consolodated servers. They will continue to nibble on the scraps SoE will throw them once a publish or two when they are not breaking things until SWG ultimately calls it quits.
An MMO doesn't charge $29.99 for a digital download that has less content than previous expansions unless they are trying to milk what remains of the subscriber base for more money to either keep the ship afloat or have some nice bags of cash to take with them when they jump ship. Think about it.

/agree my game seems quite playable. In fact, other than a few broken quests, and a few MBH that have a hard on for my Jedi, I have no problems with it at all. In fact, I played EQ2, Matrix, CoH, and WoW, and came back for more SWG cause this is the best out right now IMO.
he he...he said hard on...he he ![]()
who said he should "leave without protest"? If he wants to protest thats fine. But the exaggurations and lies aren't needed.

This is pretty much a completely stupid statement. Not everyone who actually enjoys the game is a tool. Maybe in your eyes yes, but not in true fact. If you think about it, many play the gamebecause it is indeed fun to them. Just because someone doesn't agree with your ways of enjoyment doesn't make them a tool. And others that stay do stay in hopes of helping to improve the game. Mindless judgment and blind flames do not, nor will they ever, help this game in any way and that is why thesepeople should leave quietly.Opinions matter but not many on the forums really enjoy reading another’s personal drama.

You are comparing a first timeattempted game with a hugely successful franchise. That’s a nice comparison. But when you thinkabout it, most MMORPGs cannot last with a healthy population for longer then two years and eventually fail from what I have seen. Compare to all other MMORPGs, SWGis around average and still has enough subscribers tostay alive and well. However, you can never compare a game success with WoW simply because it is above all others easily and no other MMORPG can match it ((Except Lineage inAsia))
SWG was released at a time that couldn't have been better for a Star Wars related game, during the release of the Prequels,, when a game developer takes advantage of the soaring popularity of Star Wars AND puts out a great game look at what can happen, for instance the success of KOTOR.
KOTOR and SWG are two completely different games to begin with. One, KOTOR is an offline RPGwithwith very well put together gameplay. SWG is probably the first Sci-fi MMORPG to have done this well and gone on for this long. However an MMORPG is a completely different type of game and much more difficult to manage. There is not one MMORPG that doesn't have abutt load of problems. The main problem is,some of the SWG community tends to think the exact opposite, judging an MMORPG as if it was an offline, one player game.

Problem is, I’ve seen people state the same thing one month...and then another...and another...etc. This has been going on forthe entire 2 years this game has been running. Strange enough, some of those people leave, some of those people just stay, and some of those people leave for a couple months and come back. This game has been on the same grounds it has been a year and a half ago. Thoughyou may want to hope and think that it has, nothing has changed.
Those who say: "Quit Already" will soon see their wishes realized while they play on the low population consolodated servers. They will continue to nibble on the scraps SoE will throw them once a publish or two when they are not breaking things until SWG ultimately calls it quits.
Please read above because it is basically the same exact thing...

More then two specific types of players play this game and some do enjoy the expansions while some don't. Not saying majority will but majority do buy the expansion regardless of what is said on the forums. "This expansion is gonna suck!" but then the day it comes out they are first to be on the new planet or new area. It happens regardless of what you want to believe happens.
I'm firmly behind leaving without the needs of retarded flames and hate messages. Criticism is almost always good but being mindless while you speak your opinion does nothing to help any side of the playing field. These people just want drama and blah blah its just that people like above fall right into the "tool box". See I can label too =)

You're obviously right. Aside from the last few patches that have been mostly polishing and bug fixing, there's no question the devs are slacking. This game is SO BUGGED, I've been playing for 2+ years...
These type of threads are about 18 months old. Either quit the game, or enjoy the content provided for you. Since this is in the Jedi Forums, I can only assume you're a Jedi. You probably got killed by a BH, and you're frustrated because you *think* your grind is long. Pfft.

EQII hadn't flopped enough with the massive migration of its base to Wow, so them let them have some fun with SWG to see how fast they could destroy the game.
I'm thinking tax write off, or just plain incompetence...

after two years of Bitc*ing why do you still play?If its so bad, then leave. . .
Because enough is STILL unique, and b***hing for it to be better is what forces it to continue to be ok, and better than what it is today.
If we go silent, then they have no idea how they screwed up. We cancel our account, and the game continues to tank.
You should be thanking people for complaining - it truly the squeaking wheel thing.
(However the nerf squekers getting listened to, is really sad. Especially when so many people have general game dynamics ideas to help the game truly be something that is grand.)
Also when SWG came out, it was better than it is now, which is kind of sad, but true. The original development leaders had a better focus and weren't so EQII mentally tainted.
Look at so many of the abilities added in the CU, they removed unique SWG content and put in all EQII stuff. Once they realize this was really stupid, they might get a good game for us in the long run...

A first time attempted game with a hugely successful franchise? The original EQ WAS the beginning of its franchise and look at how well it succeeded. Much better than SWG. The truth is there is no excuse for this game being as relentlessly broken as it is.
This game started out with a competent development team but in reality it has always been majorly broken in some way. The GCW has never existed, there have been noepic battles, few if any NPC actors playing canon characters, we have not even moved onto the ESB era. The development team can pat themselves on the back for their "vision" as much as they want, but beyond creating the most complicated crafting and resource system in any MMO, SWGis really mediocre.
On top of thisthere is no excuse for the poor customer service.Funny thing iswhen customer service isgood itcomes from the CSRsIMO and not the Devs. You may be an MMORPG virgin but I am not, SWG is not average compared to other MMORPGs. DAoC, an MMO from a very small company held more subscribers at its two year mark than SWG, I predict WoW, and EQ2 will also fair better once their two year anniversary rolls around.
Bottom line is you cannot argue when the numbers speak for themselves. I agree that most MMORPGs do not last very long but many have passed the two year mark much healthier than SWG. To repeat: SWG is not average compared to other successful MMOs, in fact SWG has hardly been successful for quite awhile now.
SWG was released at a time that couldn't have been better for a Star Wars related game, during the release of the Prequels,, when a game developer takes advantage of the soaring popularity of Star Wars AND puts out a great game look at what can happen, for instance the success of KOTOR.

I don't believe they are two completely different games. They are bothafirst attempt to create a Star Wars RPG,regardless of the scale. One does have a linear storyline and a definite end game, the other is intended to be more open ended. YetIcould argue we were hardly given the tools to "create our own saga"other than to grindDumis, then Baz Nitches, then Pickets, etc.You see the point. Consistently SWG has tried to make grinding = content. This just doesn't work, and people don't enjoy it. Grindingshould always only be half thejourney. Icould also go on about how there is no reward for your grind, no epic quest, no epic items, just a master box, and for most classes, some broken skills. An MMO need not be any more difficult to manage thansomething as KOTOR, as long as the development team has a vision and does not release an unfinished game.
So here is the funny thing for those of you telling us who are discontent with the game to leave. We are. We're leaving and taking our friends with us too. Then please explain to me why subscriptions are at an all time low. When if SWG is as great as everyone says it is, it should at least stillhave 500,000 subscribers, no?Maybe 1,000,000? A LOT has changed, the people that fail to realize this are also tools IMO. For every person that comes on here and rants a bit before they quit, there are probably 10 that just cancel and never say goodbye. A perfect example is that after the CU my guild went from 140 active members to its current 29.
Those who say: "Quit Already" will soon see their wishes realized while they play on the low population consolodated servers. They will continue to nibble on the scraps SoE will throw them once a publish or two when they are not breaking things until SWG ultimately calls it quits.
