Thread: Question about FORCE ARMOR

Super, thanks RDX. I actually read that at one time, but I either missed, or forgot that it says the FC is based on "total damage reduction, not the damage reduction of FA".

This is good to know, and also in my view is not the correct way of calculating the FC. This suggests that the FC of running FA2 will be higher for someone with other sources of innate armor, that makes no sense, as the FA itself is not absorbing more damage for this person, and is in fact, absorbing less of the damage because of the diminishing returns situation with all skills currently. My conclusion is that running FA as a MDef is not worth it, your increased damage reduction is marginal 7.5%.

Though, depending on how you look at it, could be viewed as an approximately 17% reduction of the post MDef damage:70 IJA absorbs 53% of 100% you are left with 47%. 100 IJA absorbs 60%, you are left with 40%. To lazy for math, but 40/47 looks like about 83%, or a 17% reduction of actual damage over and above MDef alone.

Whether you consider it a further 7.5% reduction, or an practical 17% reduction, it doesn't seem worth it given you will suffer an approximately 6% FC, of ALL damage received. (If FC = 10% of Damage absorbed, which in our case would be 60%). Rather thana 0% FC of MDef alone. Though I know that FC reduction in other this and other areas of Jedi skill trees has made force less of a concern, it still seems like too high of a cost.

However, this "FOTM" change to 4040 Def, and X4XX Enh seems like an interesting direction for someone looking to do MLS without sacrificing the magic, or for someone (like me) contemplating a hybrid template. Unless I'm calculating this wrong. This arrangement would give you 82 IJA with FA2 running, better damage "absorbtion" (though not avoidance) than a master defender and 20 skill points to do with as you chose.

And ACMtalk....yes armorbreak severely reduces the effectiveness of all armor including force armor and innate armor, but I don't agree that that makes it useless. How can having armor with reduced effectiveness not be better than having no armor at all?

Well, I don't actually think it's a waste of time. It really depends on what your goals are. It would be kind of nice for tanking high end mobs I think. There is a real difference between 70IJA and 100IJA. But I do agree that the points could be better spent elsewhere, for most people. My curiosity about all this was really to do with Non-MDef templates. I was using MDef v. Mdef+FA2 as an example for simplicity sake.

Thanks all, for your responses.

I agree, if you already have all those innate armor points you should get some more diverse skills.

Im not a jedi yet, but getting close, and i have been kinda looking for what i want to do, and i have heard that Force armor(and Improved force armor are good), but i dont know really what it is they do. Also, i wish to know if it does work with any of the defender skills, the innate armor, or aura. Thanks, and if there is another post you could lead me to that can give me an answer, that too would be appreciated.

Alright ill give you the run down on Force aura and armor.

Force aura basicly just adds def. Improved force aura adds 500 melee and ranged def, basicly it migates damage and makes the enamy miss you more.

Force armor is like wereing armor but ina force power. It adds initiate armor witch reduses damage. The defender skill gives initate armor and adding defender with FA can be very good as long as your not master defender. Force armor is a good substiute in your template for somone who doesent want to go defender, it works great untill you get a armor break, if you get a armor break on you it basicly takes 90% of force armors resists away. But in a nutshell its armor and the diffrens between the 2 reguler and improved is jsut more protection.

I would recommend using valor and aura if you go that rout valor makes blocking easier and rangd attack more difficult to hit you, aura adds to ranged and melee defense,

armor adds to innate jedi armor
