Thread: Open Letter to Jedi
Well written and thoughtful post. The most important thing the you said IMHO is that it is a small portion of the jedi community that has caused this. I have seen other professions and groups kill steal as well. It is an issue the SOE should have solved instead of condoning.
Now that MBH/MCM is the alpha class, I don't seem them pulling any punches. Most of the Jedi you are referring to are now playing their MBH/MCM toons because they are the most powerful. Therefore, I submit to you that this is not just a "jedi" problem, but an SOE problem that will continue as long as the worthless peices of filth at SOE are in charge.
I beg to differ. Look at my sig. I would agree that some do, but not most. But, I am somewhat an outsider anyway. I usually choose the path less traveled. Also, SOE can only do what they feel increases their profits. In many ways the incessant complaints by, about, and within professions is the problem with the imbalances we observe. Personally, I liked theTEF system. It made one more aware of their precarious situation. Having a FRS jedi perma-overt is a solution as was the TEF system. But again, refer to abovementioned statement about incessant complaints.

/agree with the original poster....
Something for a bit of perspective though... the REAL Jedi are RARE and a difficult profession indeed.
Here's what I mean. I too have been ingame since the beginning. I refused to hologrind because I loved TKM/Doc (which took me 4 months to achieve pre-hologrind). I currently have 3 accounts. I have one full template Jedi that I hardly ever play. My original first toon ever is a Jedi but not yet full template. I have a Master Shipwright, I have a Master Weaponsmith, and I have a Rebel Pilot.
I play my Jedi a very specific way and this is RARE. When I am walking around in public, no saber equiped, no robes on, no indication at all that I am a Jedi. I never show off in cantinna's/starports, I help out many newbies in Mos Eisley. PvP is not something I enjoy but if a BH catches up to me the last thing I would ever do is spread hate tells. I spend most of my time collecting things for my many homes or out in the wilds placing harvies for my crafters (since they always get killed surveying my Jedi does this work).
I'm not the only Jedi who treats others respectfully. Many of us (and I hope this number is growing) don't come to the forums screaming for nerf's or increased power. We just want to be able to hang out with our firends, run some quests, and have the occasional fight with an unexpected BH. We don't want to gank or nerf anyone, we want a fair fight and a good time. Many of us use our Jedi to help guildies through harder quests.
Problem is, if I come to the Jedi boards and say "I rather run quests and be left alone" they call us carebears. If I come to the Jedi boards and say "I rather PvP" they call you an Uber Leet Dude. There seems to be no middle ground these days.
To those that say "Jedi who would rather PvE, you are all Carebears!" I say give me a break. I've been playing this game my way for years now. Just because I carry a glowstick doesn't mean you can tell me how I'm supposed to play. Same goes for anyone that tells anyone what they should or shouldn't be doing in-game.
I say REAL Jedi are rare, because they don't go around saying how cool they are are who the pwned last night. Real Jedi go about their business, hang out with their buddies and don't disrupt other peoples gameplay. Thats what a Jedi should be. I could care less about who calls for this nerf or that nerf. Back when I first got TKM they were all over the boards screaming to nerf it. Now they do it with Jedi/BH. Believe me, the Dev's don't nerf things based on our feedback so it doesn't matter who screams what. The nerf based on their marketting department and management. We have nothing to do with it.

Greetings One and All,
The basic premise here is flawed and we need to go back to forming the origional concepts of a debate, because if we cannot define how to debate an issue, then the debate is pointless on all sides.
First, the origional poster references two major flaws in the final conclusion, their personal expierence and going from the specific to the general. My personal expierence and your personal expierence is different, what if every jedi I have met have treated me nicely and were helpful, then my conclusion is that your full of it, which can't be the case. You justtify what you said based upon your bad expierence with Jedi, So we now are left with an absolute statement that Jedi are bad and they all need to be downgraded, this initself is extrodinarily flawed in the approach and then results in group punishments for the entire player base. This is why there are deceent folks that don't do anything wrong yet get downgraded and just leave because someone relied solely on their personal expierence that Jedi are Bad.
We then have to also go from the specific to the general, this debateing tactic always ends with no conclusion due to the fact that you can always find a specific to flaw the general. Are there bad players who play Jedi? answer of courseis yes. Have Jedi playersabused their abilities? answer of course is yes. The conclusion is now set then all jedi have to be downgraded because all Jedi have abused their abilites, this again leads to an absolute statement which all absolutes are flawed. If this form of logic goes to its conclusion , then I also can apply it to every single player class in one form or another because I can find a specific issue within each one to apply this form of reasoning, thus leaving all classes downgraded.
Finally, Jedi didnt downgrade Jedi a combination of a few bad apples, some envy, alot of jealousy and some poor execution on the producers part. The final conclusion is people changed the vision, and alot of their own wants and desires got in the way if there is a way to mess something up a person will find a way. It wasn't Jedi that messed this up is was everyone.
The fact is this is an MMORPG, and the problem is personalities, hundreds of different personalities playing for different reasons. I take offense to the stabbing you people make at PvPers being that I am one and will always be. I don't talk in leet-speak, I don't proclaim how great I am, I just love to compete and get better at it. So to tell me that I ruin Jedi because I choose to duel my fellows to improve my skill within my template or because god-forbid my saber flares to life if I am attacked in town is rediculous.
There is no-one to blame for our nerfs. I think the developers are still trying to balance everyone to an even playing field because yes having an alpha-class in an MMO which isn't restricted to PvP only is bogus. I won't ever tell a non-PvP Jedi to cancel or delete their toon because it was "meant for pvp" but I hate it when those of you who won't PvP get on here and act like PvPers are all 12 year old attention seekers. Play your game, move along and stop telling people how to play theirs, we aren't the only ones who kill steal. It is the player not the class.
Alot of you are Star Wars fans who came on with this being your first and only MMORPG. Having played a few competitively I appreciate the fact that balance of classes for PvP is near impossible, there is always a snag. Balancing SWG is even worse because it has class mixing and has integrated the PvP with the PvE on the same servers. This makes me realize why we see more nerfs than fixes because the good PvPer will exploit a loophole to his advantage in battle. People who can't see past their Roleplaying daily lives don't see these things because it doesn't affect them. It is a hard balance to make both worlds satisfied PvE vs PvP that's why most companies opt for separate servers to keep us away from you. SWG has tried to make an integration of a player base that doesn't seem compatible.
This was a very well written thread but I disagree that a few players doing these things is causing some sort of "punishment" for Jedi.
