Question:

I equip my saber without CA clothes and the description shows mod speed = 1.42

I put the clothes on (+7 saber speed and +9 gen melee speed) and the description = 1.36

So from what you are saying, even though I see the difference listed, I am not actually getting the result?

(An aside....notice that this +16 to speed nets me 6/100ths of a second speed mod, a difference I would be hard pressed to see in testing or actual combat)

What I'm saying is that, for lightsaber specials other than Saber Hit, the system ignores your modified speed and instead uses the base speed of your lightsaber. I guarantee you that if you ran my tests, your saber would take far longer than 13-14 seconds to make ten attacks. (I can also introduce you to any number of pistoleers able to attack 10 times in 11 seconds....)

The problem with your question is that Saber Hit and all attacks for every other weapon in the game use effective speed. Many, many ranged specialists (Pistoleers, Carbineers, Riflemen) push their weapons to or almost to the hard cap of 1.0 speed, and end up actually attacking once every second.

I cannot claim to read the developers' minds, but if RIFLES are allowed to attack every second, I rather doubt it's intended that lightsabers be limited to half that rate of attack.

I do not want to continue on the path of assuming, uncomfortable. A lot of ppl believe jedi are 'unbalanced' and due being a 'overpowered profession'. To answer the question, what would happen if the DEV's fix effective speed on LS, it will only make LS better. Which I am not sure if that is acceptable. Your right in pointing out that we cannot read the minds of the developers' minds or there intentions. Communication bridge is broke too.

Here's a post i posted a while back, on the same issue (i believe bracicca did forward it to the devs)maybe its helpfull input for the thread:

Ok we all know LS speeds are bugged right?

Thethingis that i don't notice the mods from the LS dicipline.. To verify this i made a timed macro, and went to a lag free zone and used the following testing scenario:

  • My base speed of my saber is 2.71 seconds (thats inc pearls/crystal speed mods)

  • I have MLS, and FS melee speed, giving me a total of 132 speed (100 LS, 32 General)

  • My modded speed of my saberis 1.6 seconds (this is base speed - (130 LS speed))

  • Then i wrote a macro which alterates between three moves, head, body and leg hit, with a pause between those 3 ..

If i set pause to 2 seconds, the toolbar boxes are hit before the moves are completed, many get skipped, if i look at combat logs i see my attack speed taken over a 5 minute sample is above 2 seconds as well (silly b/c it should be 1.6 right?)

Now if i set the pause of the macro to 2.7 seconds, everything is executed in order, default attack isn't used once, timing matches up PERFECTLY.

Conclusion: Light Saberspeed modsand general Melee Speed mods from FS branches do absolutely nothing!

This seems such a serious bug ... such a waste of the skillpoints of MLS (and probably such a waste of speed Clothing Attachments) i can not believe this isn't our #1 Lightsaber issue and we are jumping at the developers throats until they fix this huge oversight, this crippeling of the profession!

This is a more then 33% damage reduction of our primary damage dealing dicipline!

Baciacca isn't there a way you could post such findings on the dev forums in its own thread? It's such a huge impact for almost all Jedi, such a gimpage of our profession .. a 33% damage loss is a HUGE thing.

Ps, It's worth mentioning that doc (adreniline shot) and force enhancer (forcespeed) do speed up attacks so are counted towards the final attack speed.

Its not just the CA's its the ENTIRE LS profession mods that are not being applied! Novice LS hits as fast as a Master LS!

CA's are a second thing that are not applied (as they increase the profession mods, which in turn are not applied)

Accuracy CA's i've always found to be working .. slight dmg increase using my +20 acc ca's when hitting mid level npc's (with our high min dmg the difference isnt so huge for increased acc)

this is absolutely correct.....i have tried it multiple times and the results have been the same.

this is a geinious discovery IMHO.../deepbow.

way to go man, but sadly i fear the dev team will do nothing, i have a gut feeling they knew about it from the start and dont believe any one out there is inteligent enough to figure it out...but you my friend have force feed them that notion right back...awsome job!

now that we all know know about this...what are you all prepaired to do about it? just sit back and do nothing...i think not...we have the evidence...we know where it lies...there is no disputing it now. so lets not just sit back and let it go unresolved..

There's actually a test performed by a pistoleer that shows the same thing; The modified speed is not being taken into account when performing any special other than the basic.

The only excpetions to this is doc buffs or force speed, as these don't work of the aforementioned skill mods.
