The last post from TIGGS on the subject mentioned that all values of pearls or crystals can get a perfect tune. The quality rating simply increases the chance of getting that perfect tune.
I tuned a poor crystal to 97/97 -0.19 -3FC yesterday. If the FC had been higher I would have been very happy with that tune, as it stand now I am just really pleased. It was only my 4th tune, the others were 51/51 , 18/18 and 20/20 (other stats were all really low as well).

I'm not saying the odds don't suck, I'm just saying that each tune is a totally independent and completely random roll for getting a perfect.
As Tiggs DID say, they can't adjust the lower tunes to get better odds, as it would inevitably create a market where higher quality pearls/crystals would almost always tune perfect - which is contrary to the entire tuning system altogether.
Why don't you open your eyes and see that more than 100 have been tuned. Just up until you posted this message we were talking about 600-700 good pearls tuned and not one of them tuned perfect.

I believe the original poster wants the STATISTICAL chance of obtaining a perfect tune. Is it so far out on the bell that it's impossible? Is it 1:100, 1:1000, 1:10,000? If there is a random function involved in this, then a modulus applied, the code can easily be described.

I want to know this as well... but i anticipate getting an answer from SOE is extreemly remote... but it is possible.

anything between 105-120 damage -8 -9 FC and 0.25-0.29 speed is what i call a perfect tune (my best is 120/120 -0.29 -4FC)
and btw if you work out the chances to tune a 120/120 -9.9 -0.29 pearl its low (120 x 99 x 29 = 344520/1) but thats reguards of quality that would be off a poor

Statistically speaking it would be safe to say that you would have to tune at least 1,000 pearls before having a chance to get a perfect tune on 1.
The word "Impossible" comes to mind. Sure, there's 1 person on all the servers who has probably gotten a perfect tune on 1 good pearl. But for the rest of us you're talking about spending approximately 100,000,000 to 100,000,000,000 credits to get 1 good pearl to tune perfect.
And that's WAY worse than the the odds on most state lotteries.
Most state lotteries have a 1 in a %,000,000 chance to win % being a random number depending on the particular state. Add 3 zeroes to that and that's what we're talking about for a good pearl.
So yes, for the purposes of this game, it is impossible.

Youare simplymistaken. EVERY set of random outcomes has a probability curve. Random outcomes can ALWAYS be represented by a the normal distribution curve. The curve can either be narrow (i.e. less deviation from the mean) or very wide (a huge deviation). What the devs have stated is the the distrubution is very wide but since the possibilty exists, then it is a matter of probability based on the formulas the programmers employed. In other words, flipping a coin, has a 50% probability of heads. Which means, on average, a coin-flipper would get heads 1 out of every 2 tries. If the probability of a perfect tune is .0001%, then, conversely, on average, a person would have to tune 10,000 pearls to get a perfect tune. The OP did state he wants an estimate, not a promise that he would have to tune 10,000 and then magically get the tune.
If you only have limited knowledge on a topic, then just say...this is only my opinion, don't try to represent yourself as an expert. At a minimum, you are being a politician, not a statistician. To answer his question, a politician is not the right person to do this. They f*k up everything in the media with their smoke and mirrors, lets not do the same here.

I'm going to give Tiggs the benefit of the doubt.
How many times has SOE implemented code and was not within their design specifications. Happens ALL the time, they do not test their code. And when it gets on test and they are made aware of the problems, they ignore the input.
