Thread: How do you feel about pass thru healing?

I find the pass through healing and attacks (because they essentally use the same mechanics) to be a decent idea. However they tend to be inconvenient at critical moments.
To work around the problems I've found with healing the wrong person I've created custom macros.
To heal my self I just added self to the end of macro line. for all others I have a target group number 1-8. Yes I have 9 seperate macros but it let's me heal people much faster than clicking on them then healing.
So now I heal who needs it not who the game thinks I meant.
Do you have all that on a tool bar or something? How do you manage that many healing macros?
I have the same issues with the pass through healing causing me to miss a critical heal on myself. Unfortunately I find my keystroke macro for healing myself to be unreliable in high lag
I personally have keymapped the healself, heal other macros to my numpad on the right side of my keyboard. Makes it easy to be using the arrows to move about and quickly stab the numpad number 1 key for a self heal.

I am glad you are asking us first though that is a step in the right direction. wish we would have got that after the CU hit TC, " so do you guys want us to push it out?" "heck no" lol![]()
Its already in the game.

Not in the toolbar. I've created custom hot keys through the keymap window. I use the number pad for my target designation and just hold down ctrl-h as the heal signifier the number pad is used for alot of my other functions as well. I just use differnt keystrokes to activate differnt funtions.
I'm going to experiment with that but so far lag is causing my key mapped commands to seem unreliable far more so than my toolbar commands.

Wish you luck with it. Lag is not really an issue for me, I find that after upgrades my comp handles this game very well now.
Let me know if you need any more info.

What is pass thru healing? aka Assist healing.
When you have a mob targeted and that mob is attacking a fellow group member you will attempt to heal that group member if you use a heal such as Force Heal, B. Shot, etc. This is much like assist attacking where you target your group member and hit an attack special and you will attack the same target. However, this works in the reverse where you target the mob and attempt to heal it resulting in healing the mobs target.
Pros
1. You dont have to look at who you want to heal and can stay targeted on the mob but still heal a friendly.
Cons
a. Often you intend to heal yourself but wind up getting a "invalid target" type of error because the friendly is too far way.
b. Often heal a friendly even though you really wanted to heal yourself but with the auto target system (targets what ever is attacking you) it is difficult to get yourself targeted.
c. Often wish to heal a friendly that is targeted but wind up healing a different friendly or getting an error because just as you have your patient targeted a mob attacks you and auto targets you to them resulting in a error or a different friendly getting healed.
d. The work around many use is a macro such as "/forceheal self". The down side is one needs multiple commands so that you can still heal others as well as yourself.
e. Makes using enhancers (for non-Jedi) very difficult because there isn't a command that can be used.
What are your thoughts on this topic?
I must have missed that one.. I thought it was a bug all this time..
As person who enjoys playing a doctor/healer support role.
IT SUCKS.
I detest pass-through healing. For one thing, I like to control my own actions, rather than the game making assumptions on my behalf. And in this case, it's generally a very bad assumption. Pass-through healing does far more harm than good.
I'm one of those people who makes it a point to keep an eye on the HAM displays of all my groupmates and look for the individuals in trouble. If I see someone in need of a heal, it's an easy matter to click on the person's HAM display in our group list to target him or her quickly. Pass-through healing is totally unnecessary, far as I'm concerned.
I also use occasional area heals, and find myself an instant aggro magnet. When this happens, I often find myself in deep trouble for a couple of reasons. First is the pass-through healing effect, which prevents me from healing myself. But second, in order to heal myself at all, I have to un-target whatever creature I was attacking. And when I'm surrounded by a group of outraged pikets or some similarly large creature, it is often impossible to find a clear area of my screen to click on. That delay has resulted in more incaps tomy toons than any single cause.

Someone who has a vested interest in keeping the rest of the team alive so he doesn't take all the heat?
